Ladynoir and Misterbug quickly made their way towards the screams by rooftop. The two teens had some idea of who the akuma could be but didn't have any second thoughts after jumping off the tower towards the destruction.
A young boy was backed up to the wall and fearfully stared up at the monster in front of him.
"Ladybug and Chat Noir! Come out wherever you are or else the little boy will get what's coming to him," Alter maniacally cackled. The young boy trembled when the akuma began to slowly reach out his hand towards him.
Suddenly, a silver pole extended out and hit the akuma's hand hard. The boy and villain followed the pole as it de-extended, returning to its normal form. Ladynoir stood there on the rooftop breathing heavily and got into a fighting stance.
Misterbug stood by her side in the same position, breathing heavily as well.
"Did someone...call a couple of...heroes?" He bantered between breaths. Ladynoir felt her heart rate start to accelerate for some odd reason and her face warm up, thinking her partner looked cute. Her eyes widened and immediately shook those thoughts out of her head.
"What the?" She questioned in her mind, "Where did that come from?"
Alter looked at both of the heroes, taking in their new suits before laughing. The young boy took this distraction as a way to escape and ran off to find his mother.
"I thought you both looked ridiculous before. Now, you both look even more pathetic," Alter laughed, annoyingly. Suddenly, a yo-yo slammed right into the villain's face.
"Oops," Misterbug said, returning the end of the yo-yo back, "That wasn't supposed to happe-ach!"
Misterbug cut himself off with the returning yo-yo hit him square in the face. The hero dropped his weapon and rubbed his nose. Ladynoir was trying to hold back her laughter as the enraged akuma stopped tending to his throbbing forehead.
Alter jumped towards the distracted feline heroine without her noticing and was about to punch her across the city. However, Misterbug noticed the oncoming threat and dragged his partner by the arm out of the line of the attack.
The villain only hit air, making him more frustrated. Ladynoir stopped laughing and kept on her toes. She would usually never get distracted that easily during a battle. Yet, it seemed as if she couldn't help herself.
"Are you alright?" Misterbug asked. Ladynoir felt a blush warm her cheeks before saying, "Y-Yeah."
"That's it you little pain in the necks!" Alter yelled, messing with his weapon, "I'm going to send you both to a place where you should never exist! That world will see you as a mistake and completely erase you two pests!"
Misterbug growled, defensively putting an arm in front of Ladynoir and began to spin the yo-yo at a rapid pace for protection. Ladynoir couldn't help but feel touched by the gesture. Yet, she had to focus on the battle and pushed those weird feelings away for now.
Alter began to fire his weapon at the two heroes.
"Got any ideas, Milady?" Misterbug asked, keeping an eye on the villain. Ladynoir began to quickly look around for a solution but nothing was happening. She couldn't figure out how to beat the villain no matter how hard she tried.
"I...I don't know," she finally admitted defeat. Ladynoir began to point out her insecurities one by one, feeling all the more useless and weak than before.
"Is this how Chat feels?" The feline hero thought, "Useless?"
That wasn't true though. Chat has saved her more than once on many occasions (in and out of costume) and has had ideas to defeat villains. He's loyal, kind, brave and strong.
Anyone who says Chat Noir is a sidekick was dead wrong! He is her partner, her best friend...
Ladynoir felt her stomach do flips at the many thoughts of her wonderful friend. She felt her face heat up and a warmth in her chest.
...possibly more.
"Are you alright back there? It's okay if you can't think of anything. I think I might have an idea," Misterbug said, a little unsure.
"O-Okay," Ladynoir began before asking, "What's your plan?"
"I need you to distract Alter while I go and use my power to figure out the rest of the plan," Misterbug explained, still completely unsure of himself. Ladynoir could tell his plan was slightly iffy but that was how they usually defeated akumas.
"Okay, just tell me when you're ready," the hero of bad luck stated. Misterbug nodded in acknowledgment.
"Would you two quit your flirting?! It's disgusting!" Alter snapped, making Ladynoir blush even harder than before. The villain decided ran at them while blasting in his blind rage.
"Now!" The big hero shouted as the two heroes jumped out of the way of fire. Ladynoir didn't get away too far as Misterbug jumped to a different roof. Ladynoir snatched her baton from her belt and extended it enough to use for a weapon.
"Lucky Charm!" Misterbug shouted, using his power. Ladynoir went at the villain with advanced fencing moves she didn't know she had. The villain was taken aback from this but was able to just barely dodge the attacks.
"You might have altered a little..." Alter began, glancing down at the awkward positioning of her feet, "but you're still not completely changed."
Ladynoir was taken aback for a split second leaving enough time for Alter to low sweep her feet. The cat hero fell onto her back, baton falling off the roof.
"Cataclysm!" Ladynoir shouting, activating her destructive powers. She tried to at least brush her fingertips on the water gun. Instead, her fingers touched a roof's title and turned it into ashes. She gasped, not expecting the villain to outsmart her like that.
Alter laughed maniacally and pointed his weapon at the defenseless girl.
"Goodnight, Kitten," He purred, finger pulling the trigger. Ladynoir's eyes dilated in fear and heart pounded rapidly, knowing that this was the end.
Alter fired.
Something flew in like a frisbee just in time to reflect the blast back onto the akuma. Alter disappeared and left a shocked Ladynoir in confusion.
"Milady!" Misterbug called, running over to her and knelt down next to her. He was absolutely worried about his partner, scanning her for any injuries. Ladynoir felt herself trembling, claws scraping against the roof. She saw the mirror that saved her from almost being taken out of existence.
"Are you alright? He didn't hurt you, did he?" Misterbug asked, gently grasping the side of her arms and looked down in the green cat-like eyes in worry. Ladynoir finally snapped out of her shock and leaned forward to rest her forehead on Misterbug's shoulder.
"Thank you for saving me," she spoke quietly, gratitude laced within her voice. Misterbug brought his partner into a hug.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked once more.
"Y-Yeah. Just a little shaken is all," Ladynoir replied.
"We'll get him next time. We weren't prepared because of our alternative change," he said, mindlessly rubbing her back.
"Yeah right. You aren't having any problems with your powers and I bet home-life is just as good," Ladynoir muttered, bitterly and pulled away. The cat hero stood up as Misterbug watched her move towards the edge of the roof.
"I guess I'll see you around," Ladynoir said before flying off in the direction of her "home." Misterbug felt bad for his lady. He knew what she was going through.
It is his life after all.
Which meant, she also obtained his bad luck.
Misterbug decided to call it a night and swung home.
