Chapter Thirty: Hunger

Luca's POV
"Let's stop here for a couple of hours, let's take a break."

"You're right." I sat down and laid Diana next to me, playing with her hair. Shade blocked my body from the sun and I looked up to see Matt.

"You hungry?" I gave him a small nod before feeling Diana shift. I glanced down and saw her rub her eyes before opening them. She squinted at the bright sun before sitting up and looking around.

I laughed in joy and my eyes began to tear up, she turned her body to face me.

"Luca!" Diana jumped in my lap and held on tightly, hiding her face by my cheek. I held the back of her head with one hand while the other was on her back.

"Oh thank goodness! Don't ever do that to me again!" I kissed her passionately never wanting to let her go.

She was okay.

Diana's POV
"Okay, remember we are still here." I pulled away from the kiss and turned my head to see Matt standing tall in front of us. I began to feel a head rush again causing me to close my eyes and rest my head on Luca.

"What's wrong my love?" Luca rubbed my cheek and soon checked my temperature.

"Darling you're burning up. Hey Matt, find some water quick, she might have passed out from heat exhaustion. Baby when was the last time you drank water?" I shrugged my shoulders, feeling no energy in me.

I shivered as the cold air came in contact with the warm sweat on my body. Luca rubbed his hand up and down my arm, trying to keep me as warm as possible.

"I'll go hunt something." My blurred vision made out Xavier as he shifted into his wolf, making his way deep into the forest. I felt myself being lifted up and then put back down onto the floor.

"I'm gonna shift okay? Jay might be able to keep you a lot warmer than me." I nodded, my teeth clicking and arms wrapped around myself.

Right when Luca shifted into Jay, I opened my arms immediately engulfing into his warm fur. He laid on his side, still making me his little spoon. Jay rubbed his head against mine, comforting me as we waited for Matt and Xavier to come back.

"What happened? Where did you run off too?"

I didn't reply, instead, I whimpered.

"Hey it's okay darling, you can tell me. I won't get mad. I promise I won't even tell Luca."

I giggled a little at his curiosity before finally giving him a response.

"I went to find the group, to find Blake and Monica. All I remember was seeing black spots and then...just falling. I couldn't feel anything Jay." I wiped my face from the warm tears, sniffing loudly.

"I felt like my life literally flashed before my eyes. I mean that's not normal for just passing out. Is it?"

Jay licked away my tears and looked up, I followed his gaze, seeing Matt, with his hands on his hips.

"I found some water, I'm sure it's a part of King's lake. But it should be clean enough for Luna to drink." I climbed on top of Jay as he stood up, he shook under me, taking off all the dirt that stuck to him.

His tail swayed side to side as he began to jog and follow Matt.

"Darling, once we make it there, please do not leave my sight."

"Ok."

We met up with Xavier's wolf along the way, he had a rabbit in his mouth, the blood dripping off his snout. I quickly hopped onto my feet and walked to the lake, grabbing the cold, refreshing water into my hands.

I took a quick gulp and sighed in relief, taking another, then another. Jay came next to me and began drinking water also. I pecked his nose and closed my eyes, feeling better already.

I felt something nudge my arm, only to see Xavier with the rabbit on the floor with his tail wagging. He had his tongue sticking out as he pushed the rabbit closer. A loud whimper erupted from my right and I saw Jay inside the lake, howling.

I burst out laughing and pointed at him, holding my stomach as it had started to cramp.

"H-honey are you okay?" I asked through my fits of giggles. He quickly got out of the water and shook the water off of himself getting Xavier and I both wet. Xavier's wolf barked in annoyance and backed away for a moment.

"That water is so f*cking cold!"

I laughed a little while longer after finally hugging Jay. I kissed his cheek a couple of times and soon enough he licked my lips.

"Awe, poor baby." Jay ignored my response and stared at Xavier's wolf with irritation before gazing at the rabbit.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I took the rabbit and held it in my hands, gagging a little. I was hungry and I didn't know how else to cook it.

"Is there any way I can split it? So we can all eat?" Matt sat behind me.

"No, no Luna, you should eat."

"I agree Darling, we can all wait, you are all that matters and getting you to safety. Finish eating and we will be on our way."

I gave Jay a small smile. I handed a leg to Xavier and he shook his head.

"He says he's good for now." Matt answered for him. I nodded and looked down at the dead rabbit. I scrunched my nose and then pinched it. My eyes closed and I took a bite out of the raw meat, a metallic taste touching my buds. I chewed it like gum.

"Mmm." I gagged and my eyes rolled behind my eyelids as I tried not the puke. I swallowed it harshly and breathed out heavily.

"I think I'm full." Matt laughed at my reaction and shook his head. Matt took a little bit of the rabbit, eating it like it was nothing. I looked at him in awe and spit my now red saliva.

"You sure you don't want any Jay?" I ripped a little bit of meat from Matt and held it to his mouth. He looked at it hesitantly.

" Thank you."  He took the piece chewing on it with his canines. I continued to feed him small pieces and then held one in front of Xavier's wolf.

"You need to eat. Please, for me?" He sniffed it for a second and slowly took it. I grinned at him and leaned against Jay's torso as he stood.

Matt let out a burp and blew out air.

"Matt! That was gross!" I screeched. He waved it off and got up.

"Luna, I'm going to let my wolf out, he deserves it, if that's alright?" I nodded, staring at the two wolves with me already, another one can't hurt, right?

I sat on Jay's back, laying my head in his neck. I gripped tightly around his neck for support.

"Are you ready to leave baby? We will make to the pack in a couple of hours, get some rest and I'll wake you up when we are there."

Jay raised his tail and curled it against my body to keep me warm, the weather getting colder. I snuggled into him deeply and we were finally back on track, back to meeting the rest of our family.

Monica's POV

"The sun's coming out and Blake's still not here, I'm starting to get really hungry." Alex whispered to Daniel.

I sat next to Jade as I was holding baby Mia while they both rested. Hayden was working on a fire, blowing on the dry woods. I saw a squirrel pass by and my stomach rumbled.

"Hey James, hold Mia I'll be back in a second." He stopped stroking Lena's hair and let one arm out. I slowly put the sleeping baby in his arm and he continued to soothe Lena from her painful time.

I rubbed my butt, getting rid of the leaves that stuck to my jeans. My nose was raised and I began sniffing the air following the smell out of the territory. The bottoms of my feet were being controlled on their own as they continued to walk farther away from everyone else. I quickly hid behind a tree and my eyes darkened with hunger.

Deer. I growled lowly and quietly made my way towards the large animal that could feed all the starving mouths of a dozen.

I pounced and slit the throat of the deer, allowing it to bleed out. It soon fell with a loud thud and I grabbed the deer from its back legs, dragging it back to everyone.

*****

"Oh my gosh! MONICA!" Aiden yelled right when he saw me. I dropped the deer's legs and sat down, huffing out air.

"Did you get that fire started yet?" I asked Hayden, who plainly shook his head no. I snorted and smirked at everyone.

"You guys ready to see what it's like to eat like wolves?" I sliced the topcoat and grab some of the raw goodness. I cut out a big chunk and ate it, the saltiness making my mouth water.

"Oh! That's yummy!" I moaned in delight. I saw everyone stare at me with disgust written all over their faces except for James, who just chuckled at the situation.

"Come on! Dig in! Trust me, it's not as bad as you think." Aiden stood up and took a small piece in his hands, smelling it, before putting it in his mouth. He nodded and rubbed his chin, swallowing the deer.

"Not too bad." In a few seconds, everyone came over and ate a small piece, becoming full after a few bites. I guess that means more for me.

"Blake, where are you? Come back I'm starting to worry. Plus I brought back some deer, you don't have to worry about it."  Blake mind-linked me back almost immediately.

"On my way back, had no luck finding Alpha Leo anyways. You sure we have enough babe?"

"More than enough."

Diana's POV

"Diana, darling wake up." I let out a small yawn and rubbed my eyes, before resting my head on Jay again. He was still walking as I was stretching on him.

"Are we there yet?" I yawned out. I turned my head to the right. Xavier was ahead of us and Matt's wolf behind us.

"Just made it near the territory. We just have to find Alpha Leo." I sat up on Jay, riding him as if he was a horse, though both my legs were on one side. I felt an energy change as we entered the pack territory, seeing many of our people.

"Mama look! It's Alpha and Luna!" A young boy pointed out. He held onto his mother's hand and started dragging her to meet us. So many pack members started to whisper, while others cheered loudly. I felt my palms become sweaty as we walked away from them, from all their questions.

"So what's the plan?" I asked politely, twirling some of Jay's fur with my fingers.

"We need to find Alpha Leo, let him know we are alright. Once we've done that, we can make our way back to the territory and start cleaning up the mess. Fixing everything."

I sighed.

"Alright, hopefully, we see him soon, I really want to go home."

"Well baby, he's right there. I'm going to go and shift, can you please speak with him and ask him for spare clothes?" I got off of Jay and gave him one last hug until I decided to make my way to Leo.

I was left all alone and my finger tapped Leo's broad shoulder. He quickly turned around and bowed to me with respect.

"Luna Queen! Oh, it's a relief to see you! Where's Alpha King Luca, is he okay?" I put my hand up so he would stop rambling.

"He fine, along with Alpha King Xavier and Beta Matt, they are on their way, any chance you can bring something for them to change into?"

He quickly nodded and called over a pack warrior.

"Bring a few towels and tell Kate, we've got company."
