Chapter 8
When I caught Wilson's attention she was all smiles at me. My heart was pounding and I was a nervous wreck but I knew that if I kept calm and didn't make a fool of myself I'd have a better shot at getting my first real date. As I got closer I noticed he was rocking back and forth like there was something making him anxious. It was worrisome but as long and I heard him out I could make my decision from there.
"Hi Wilson." I said shyly as I approached him.
"Hey Regan! How ya doin'?"
"I'm ok I guess. You look nervous. Something wrong?"
"I am a little nervous but I'll be fine. Can we talk?"
"Sure. What's up?"
We walked over to the last row of seats and sat down at the end of the row just a few feet away from the auditorium doors.
"Well first off I owe you an apology for how I acted last year. I was stupid for laughing at you."
"You really did hurt my feelings Wilson. I thought that you would turn me down gently. I wasn't expecting.....that."
"I know. It was an asshole thing for me to do and I promise you I will never do that to you ever again. I really like you Regan."
I looked over at him and found that he meant what he said. Including the part that he liked me.
"You do?" I asked.
"Well yeah! I kinda liked you for a while. I was just too scared to admit it. When you're someone like me your friends expect you to like someone from the same circle. But you're pretty cool!"
My face was warm from blushing so much. I felt my cheeks getting stiff from smiling so hard. Prince always thinks that someone is out to get me but this didn't seem like the case with Wilson. At least he admitted he was wrong and was sincere about it.
"I like you too Wilson!" I giggled as I watched his eyes scan my face.
"You are very pretty. I never realized it until just now. You must have guys coming at you with all types of jive huh?"
"No not at all. Most guys don't talk to me unless it's those guys down there."
I pointed down at Prince and the rest of the bunch as they looked like they had been watching me and Wilson the entire time. Prince didn't look too thrilled about the two of us having this extensive conversation. I saw him cross his arms across his chest and he never turned away for a second. It was starting to get annoying as he stared hard at me and even harder at Wilson. A part of me wanted him to let his suspicions of Wilson being a player go but when Prince calls something out he's usually right. I was optimistic about thinking otherwise but seeing that Prince wasn't going to let it go until he proved me wrong. I was determined to make sure that didn't happen.
"So what are your plans for the weekend?" Wilson asked me with a smile still stuck on his face.
"I don't know. Maybe I'll stay at home and study some stuff. I'm bad at math and I figured I'll get a jump on it now so I can understand it better."
He raised his eye brows and his lips went into an intrigued smile.
"Wow girl! You waste no time huh?"
"It's not that I just don't wanna fail right from the gate."
"Well why don't you come and hang it with me Friday night before you wanna start your studying."
I couldn't stop myself from smiling.
"Are you serious? You wanna hang out with me?"
"Why wouldn't I? Besides I really wanna make up for what I did to you."
The more I thought about it the smaller my chances got to say no.
"Ok! I'll do it!"
He stood up and put his book bag on his back.
"Ok! Cool! So I'll pick you up at 7:30?"
"Ok! 7:30! I'll be ready!"
He leaned over and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and walked away but not before turning back to see me wide eyed and blushing.
"See you tomorrow beautiful."
Those were his last words to me before the bell rang to dismiss us for the day. I was still frozen to my seat as the other students walked up the ramp and heard out the auditorium doors. Holding my face I let out a sweet sigh of happiness as the kiss still tingled softly on my face. I slowly stood up and dragging my book bag out of the aisle and stood dead center of the floor as Jerome had to shake me back to the real world.
"Mmmmhmmmm we saw that miss lady!" Jerome said with a big smile.
"Huh? What happened?" I said trying to look as if nothing happened.
"Don't play dumb kid! We saw you and Wilson getting all goo goo eyed up here!" Morris piped up.
"Oh shut up we weren't doing that!" I shouted slapping Morris in the chest.
Andre and prince just stood there and gave me the death stare as if I just broke a really expensive guitar or played their unheard demo tape at a party.
"So what's going on with y'all?" Andre asked with a scowl on his face.
"Nothing! He asked me what I was doing this weekend!"
"And?" Prince scolded.
"AND we're going out Friday night."
"Like on a date." Andre implied.
"Yes fool! On a date!"
"And you're really gonna go." Prince answered.
"Why are y'all so worried about it?!?!? It's just a date. Maybe you boys should get one and let me have my moment!"
I shrugged my shoulders and turned away from them walking out of the auditorium. I was never so happy on my first day of school in my life now that I'm going on my first date with Wilson Jackson. Won't my mom be excited about this.
