Lindsey couldn’t believe how hearing one song could bring everything flooding back to him, he was beside himself as he remembered the things he had said to Stevie since he woke up in hospital, and his kids...he had frightened his little girl!

He raced back to the car and jumped in it and started the drive to his home that he had so cruelly abandoned

Stevie was getting the kids settled into the den when Christine arrived; Stevie needed her to look after the kids today whilst she went to her appointment, once they were out of ear shot Chris spoke to her

“Stevie are you sure about this?”

“No but I need to do it!” Stevie looked at her sadly

“Why? Surely you can do this, I’m here to help always you know that, you could raise a child as a single mother your strong enough” Stevie knew Chris was trying to dissuade her

“Chris, honey, remember when you split up from John?” Chris nodded at her question

“How would you have felt if you found out you were pregnant?” this was a serious question, after a delay of silence she finally answered

“Like I would always be looking into Johns face” Chris had reached defeat, she understood where Stevie was coming from

“And that is precisely why I can’t have this baby, both of our children look the spitting image of Lindsey, I couldn’t cope with a new one that every time they looked at me, Lindsey’s eyes would be staring back” Stevie wiped a tear off her cheek

“I understand now” the two women hugged and Stevie got her jacket on and walked out the door, trying to keep her head up as she went

Carol Ann? What the hell Lindsey thought to himself, that conniving woman had pretended she didn’t know him, and he knew exactly why, she wanted to try and hurt Stevie as much as she could, he bet that’s what the fight was about, he could imagine that Carol Ann was doing her best to wind Stevie up, and it had worked,one more thought went through Lindsey’s head suddenly, thank god I didn’t sleep with her

Stevie stared up at the building; she had almost gone home three times already

Maybe Chris was right and you can love this child Stevie was absentmindedly rubbing her stomach

NO! Stop it Stevie you need to do this, it’s the only way and with this as her final though she continued her ascent up the steps of the clinic and walked inside

Lindsey pulled up to his home and raced to ring the bell, he realised he no longer had a key, he was taken back with surprise when Chris answered the door

“Oh my god Chris, where’s Steph?” he rushed to ask

“She’s...wait Steph?” she was surprised he had used her actual name, only old Lindsey did that

“Chris, I was in a store and they were playing records, and Stephanie came on and everything came back to me” They both knew he was rambling

“You remember everything? Like every single bit?”

“Down to the seconds!” Chris felt her heart break because she knew where Stevie was going

Stevie was in the waiting room, women were coming and going, some looking sadder than when they went in, others had a look of relief

Stevie had had some forms to fill out and then she sat and read a magazine for a while desperately trying to take her mind off the inevitable

“Mrs Buckingham” she looked up saw it was her turn, so she slowly put the magazine down and got up and walked over to him, on her way past the reception desk the woman there gave her a sympathetic smile

“Good luck” and Stevie walked in to the room and the door was shut behind her
