Chapter One

"I'm on the Highway to Hell! I'm on the Highway to Hell!" Dean turns up the volume as the chorus to the AC/DC song begins to rock his precious Impala.

"Dean. Dean. Dean!"' Sam yells over the music. "Turn it down. I can't even hear myself think!"

Dean continues to blast his music through the car and ignore his brother. Sam has had just about enough of Dean's behavior, so he takes his laptop and slams it against his brother's healing shoulder.

"Ow! Sheesh, Sammy. Calm down." Dean finally turns down the music, before continuing his teasing, "I was just pokin' a little fun at you. You think I would pass up a moment to make you miserable?"

"It's Sam, not Sammy.", Sam pronounces with disgust. "People probably think your a little kid stuck in a man's body."

"Says the twenty-eight year old who just threw a tantrum." Dean retorts, rolling his eyes.

"Jerk."

"Bitch."

A silence fills the car as a mutual truce is formed in the air of the quiet car. As Dean watches the road ahead and Sam stares out the passenger side window, Dean decides to speak up,

"So, where we headed, little brother?"

"A small suburb outside of Denver. Looks like demon activity, but..." Sam trails off.

"I hate buts.", Dean murmurs. "But what?" Sam continues reading from an article on his laptop,

"Well, there are all the omens that would point towards demon activity, that's for sure, but what's strange is that besides from the 'mysterious' deaths, there have been some kidnappings."

"Strange. Any connections between the victims?" Dean questions.

"None that I can tell.", states Sam. "You think they're looking for something?"

"I have no idea." Dean replies, rather puzzled. "But the sooner we get there, the sooner we get to waste those son of a bitches." He presses down on the gas as they speed on past mile marker 99.

"That women was just plain loony."

"Dean, her husband was just murdered in bed! Right next to her!", Sam exclaimed. "Don't you think she would be a bit bent out of shape?"

They had arrived in the little town the night before and had just returned from interviewing a newly made widow about the disappearance of her son, and the horrifying murder of her husband. They hadn't accomplished much, except for confirming the fact that demons had been involved. Sulfur was still on the windowsill from the night of the attack and the widow acknowledged that she had smelt something like rotten eggs that night, as well as rambling some other bits of nonsense.

"Yeah, but she was just batty. I mean, who doesn't wake up while their husband is being brutally murdered right next to them?! Maybe she did it! Maybe we aren't dealing with demons, maybe we are dealing with crazy people. Remember the Benders*?", Dean defends as he tugs at his tie. Sam takes off his suit jacket,

"Ugh. Don't remind me. Those people were just sick and twisted."

"I just can't figure out what the demons are after...this whole case is strange.", Dean exclaims while plopping down on the twin size bed.

"Aren't they always.", Sam replies sarcastically. "I mean, our whole 'job' is strange. We hunt the monster that hide under children's beds or in their closets. The monsters and scary shadows that shouldn't exist."

Dean sighs, knowing his brother is right. His trained eyes sweep over their room. The motel was pealing and had a moldy musk, but it was cheap and private; just what a pair of hunters of the supernatural needed. Two twin size beds rested their heads against the far wall. Dean smirked. Once again they had to correct the wise guy behind the counter for two twin size beds instead of a single king size bed. Sheesh. They were brothers! How did people not see that?

The sounds of Sam's voice broke through Dean's thoughts, pulling him back to reality as he focused back on brother.

"Ya know, the last time something similar to this happened was when Crowley** was hunting down all the prophets. Maybe it's not 'something', but rather 'someone'."

"That would make sense...but none of the teens missing are potential prophets.", Dean said puzzled, tugging a little at his short, light brown hair. What could the demons be after that was so important? Dean voiced his thoughts, "So what are they after and why?"

"That's what worries me...", Sam agreed as he ran his hand through his slightly longer, golden brown hair. Sam locked his hazel eyes with his brother's green ones, almost as if having a silent conversation with one another. Sam recognized that look; his brother was pissed and frustrated.

Everything is blurry and dark as I began to open my eyes. Immediately I regret even doing this simple action.

"Owww! Cheez-its! My head!", I let out an almost pitchy whine as I gently cradle my head. I begin to scan my body for any other wounds. There are bruises and cuts covering my body in varying degrees of pain and size. As the tiny lights that keep flashing before my eyes begin to fade, I take notice of my surroundings. The room is completely dark except for the inch of light trickling in from the heavy metal door down a short hallway. I can barely make out the walls of a cell that surround me on two sides, while I lean against the corner of two ice cold walls.

"They couldn't even leave me a bunk, much less a blanket. Geez. So much for the four star hotel I signed up for." That's when I begin to notice I'm not alone. Along the opposite wall lay about five or six cells as well as some more to my left. "Apparently I didn't specify hotel room from hotel dungeon.", I grumble out, the pain starting to make its way through my frozen body.

"You're not the only one.", a voice from the dark says weakly. "None of us asked for this."

"Who are you?", I asked shocked as I sat there shivering. "What do you mean by 'us'?"

"M'name's Nathaniel and there's others here as well, though they might not be as well off as I am." The voice responds. "Oh, sorry for scaring you, by the way."

"No, it's okay. I just...wasn't really expecting anyone else to be here." I respond as I look around some more. Then I think back to what he just said, "I'd hate to see the condition the others are in...you don't sound too good, no offense." I state worried.

There's silence for a bit as I ponder a little about my situation. Suddenly I want to face palm, realizing I probably should have asked this question that I just happen to think of now before whining like a little brat about my situation.

"What is this place? Where are we?", I question Nathaniel. "Or better yet, where are you? I can't see a thing!"

"You get use to the lighting soon enough and I happen to be in the cell across from you.", he whispers. "And as to where we are; I haven't a clue, but this place is filled with evil."

"Why do you say that?", I ask nervously.

"Because this is where I have been tortured constantly, as have the others.", he responded darkly.

"What?! Why?!", I nearly cry out. Those poor people, poor Nathaniel! What have I gotten myself into?!

"They do it because its fun, but mainly because they want to beat out of us where this one girl is." He snarls out.

"Who are they?"

"Not 'who', but 'what'. They are demons, with eyes black as coal."

*- If you don't know who the Benders are, go to youtube.com and type in Supernatural 1x15. That should help. If not helpful, then all you really have to know is that they are a human family (a father called Pa, two sons who honestly look like that guy from the Looney Tunes named Mugsy sprinkled with PG-13, and a daughter who probably creeps me out the most.) with a creepy obsession of hunting humans and collecting 'prizes'. *shiver* Yuck.

**- Crowley is the King of Hell and can be used occasionally for comedic relief througout the show, but usually ends up being the character you want kill the most with your own two hands. Suggestion; since I don't have an amazing way to describe him, use youtube.com. It's almost as magical as google.com in cases like these. Just look up Supernatural Crowley.

Author's Note:

Chapter 1!!! Yay!! So, tell me what you think and if I should continue. Comment, vote, or just enjoy! I have another week and a half left of winter break so I can probably pump out a few more chapters before school starts again. Anyway, as you all may have noticed, some of the characters are not my own (hint, hint, clue, clue: Sam and Dean Winchester and Crowley). They are from the show Supernatural owned by the CW network, so, yes, this is a slight fan fiction. Oops :) I'll try not to make too many references to the show or specific episodes so that the story is still enjoyable to those who don't watch Supernatural, though I suggest trying it out at some point. However, if I do choose to make a reference, I'll do the same as I did in this chapter and give info on the references at the end of the chapter to help those not into the show to understand the chapter a bit better.
