Chapter 80

Lizzie

Lilly and Tammy are with me. We decided to all get ready together, and because their folks and yes, Tammy's too, which is amazing – wanted to see us girls from the moment we got dressed, my folks invited them over for a sort of prom celebration.

The adults are downstairs. Nina has been working non-stop today, prepping party food, nibbles and even organizing a chocolate fountain. I tried to snaffle some to drink, but I got my hand slapped away. But I did manage to grab some mini pancakes and these cute little sausage rolls.

"Jeez, aren't you worried about carbs with that dress and a bloaty stomach?" Tammy asks. I look at her as if she's gone insane.

"What the fuck are you talking about? Of course not. You know I eat what I want when I want. Carbs don't do that to you; lack of exercise does. I never get a bloated tummy; besides, that's what spandex is for, right?"

"Are you wearing span?" She asks, raising her eyebrows.

"No fucking way. I'll save that for when I'm in my fifties." I laugh.

"You girls are funny." Lilly chimes in as she teases her hair with the straighteners. "Up or down, what do you both think?" Her hair is long and glossy; it sits down around the middle of her back. With her elegant neck, I'm thinking she should wear it up.

"I like it down; it's luscious," Tammy says with her head cocked to one side. "How does Denver like it?" She asks.

We're sitting in matching silk robes. Mom had them specially made for us when she found out we'd all be getting ready together. They're electric pink, each with our name embroidered on it in baby blue. I feel like one of the Pink Ladies from the movie Grease. I love that movie. In fact, we're playing the soundtrack as we get ready. It's such a cool time being together, having fun, and to think, I almost wasn't going to bother going to prom.

Yet, I am having the best time. The only thing spoiling it for me is the butterflies and the sickness in my stomach. Tonight is the night. It's the only night I can make my move on Brandon and kiss him. Lilly hands me my champagne; it's pink, you guessed it. The bubbles hit my nose and make me giggle.

"Denver likes whatever I do with my hair." Lilly says, taking a sip of her pink champagne.

"Difficult. You're so damn gorgeous no matter what you do with it, Lilly." She pulls a face since neither Tammy nor I are helping a lot.

"I'll put it up. Tammy, can you help me clip it in place? Then I think I'll make some curls and bobby pin them. It'll look kinda vintage – retro."

"Wow, that sounds amazing," I say and sit down on the bed and start painting my nails crimson red. We've allowed ourselves three hours to get ready. Will I ever be ready? This is my big night and I am so excited.

I've gone through the whole what if I ruin our friendship and lose Brandon as my best friend thing to finally having the confidence to bite the bullet. The girls have been awesome, telling me that you have to go after what you want in life; you have to make your own dreams come true. Sure, if it doesn't work out, I will be mortified my heart will break in two.

I'm confident Brandon won't ditch me as his bestie; I no longer feel that he would walk away from fifteen years of friendship. He's not that kind of guy. What scares me the most, however, is that he really doesn't feel anything as I feel about him. That's making me feel sick to my core, like I'm actually going to vomit. Another reason why I am not getting dressed literally until the very last minute. I don't want to ruin my dress. The thing I am most scared of, is him not loving me back the same way. I try hard not to focus on all of this while I listen to the banter between Lilly and Tammy as they fix her hair, which I have to say looks like something a 1940's movie star would have worn. Damn, Lilly looks like a goddess with her hair piled on top of her head, small curls pinned in place, golden blusher, highlighted eyes, and siren-red lips. That girl has a pout to make Jolie jealous and then some.

"You're up next, Lizzie," Tammy says. Out of the three of us, she is the whiz at styling hair. Mom did offer to get us a stylist in for tonight but it's not as much fun as doing it ourselves. We're best girlfriends, and we want to make the most of what will be our last night getting ready together.

After this, we're going on our summer holidays, doing our own thing. Probably only hooking up a few more times during the summer, then on to college. I have a tear in my eye, a lump in my throat. Everything is going to change. Our whole lives will change forever. I don't think I am ready for that, but I do know one thing, us girls will always be good friends.

"Come sit in the hot seat, girl," Lilly says as she stands up from the chair in front of my kidney-shaped dressing table. I slide easily onto the chair with my glass of champagne.

Lilly changes the music to Taylor Swift, and we girls allow the champagne to work into our systems as Tammy goes to town with my hair.

"I'm nervous as fuck." I tell her. She looks me in the eyes via the mirror.

"Sure you are. It's natural. But boy, when you kiss him and those sparks fly, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner."

I wonder what Brandon's lips are going to feel like on mine. Will they be soft and smooth? Will he slide his tongue into my mouth? It's making me wet and I clench my thighs together. My nipples tighten and bud. Fuck, I want him so bad.
