Chapter 68

Lizzie

The way that Brandon looked at me resulted in me feeling like a wet mess of a puddle. My insides churned; butterflies felt like they were on speed in my stomach, and my hand went to my heart.

"You okay?" Tammy asks.

"Sure, just you know so goddamn proud of them."

"Me too." Says Lilly, who is looking adorable in one of Denver's jerseys. It's way too big for her, so she has a red belt around her waist and is wearing it with denim pedal pushers and the team logo flip-flops. Her hair is in a long braid as it hangs down her back.

Tammy is the odd one out, opting not to wear a team jersey. But Tobias and I are. You guessed it, I am wearing one of Brandon's and like Lilly – it practically swamps me, but I let it wear big with my black jeans that have holes in them at the knee and thigh.

"They stand a really good chance of winning," Tobias adds. "Halfway, even Stevens. Not so bad." I give him a high five. Tammy follows, then Lilly.

"What's the plans for later?" He asks as he bites into his hot dog. The ketchup seeps over the top, and now he's wearing it as a moustache. Tammy reaches over and wipes it from his top lip. Cute. So cute. He smiles at her, and she smiles back, then shifts chairs so she can sit next to him. Ooo. Is there something beginning to happen between these two? Finally. I sure hope so, I couldn't think of a better boyfriend for Tammy than Tobias. He's smart, funny and adores her. It's about time she realized that.

"I think the guys will all go to Malone's sports bar. We could tag along. They'd probably want us to whether they win or lose. But fuck, it's exciting, right? I hope they win." Lilly says. She's like an excited puppy dog who is about to go out on a walk.

I grin from ear to ear. That's my Brandon out there playing his heart out, and what a way for him to finish the first half with a rip-roaring goal. Way to go, Brandon. It fills me up; my heart is brimming, and I know without a doubt that I have fallen hopelessly in love with my bestie. For now though, I'm not going to worry about what happens when we go to college. I'm not going to worry whether I should let him know or not. Instead, I will be patient, and who knows, one day maybe he will realise that what we have is special and a bond that nobody can break. I feel so in love, it's like I have stars in front of my eyes and fireworks are sounding off above my head. I want to shout it from the rooftops, hell I want to make an announce across the stadium and let the goddamn world know just exactly how I feel about Brandon.

And when he smiled and winked at me, I felt my pussy contract and the dampness in my panties.

"Let's do it." Tammy says and shifts even closer to Tobias. Lilly and I pass a look and smile. She is thinking exactly the same as me as we both look down at Tobias and Tammy. His right leg is against her left knee.

"Count me in." Tobias says, finishing his hot dog.

"Will we all still meet up like this when we go to college?" Asks Lilly. For a second, we all feel that pinch, the one that clutches you at your heart when you're about to lose something, or everything is about to change. I look at my friends, the ones I've known

all my life practically. I never want this moment to end; sadness engulfs me, quickly eroding the feelings I had when Brandon looked and winked.

"For sure," I say and hug her to me. Lilly hugs me back tightly. "We'll always get to see each other. We can do FaceTime, and if you're staying here with Denver and Tammy isn't going away either, then that's just me, right?"

"And me." Says Tobias. "I'm off to Columbia, remember." Of course, how could I have forgotten?

"Listen guys, let's not be so melodramatic. We'll make a pact, all of us, to make sure we always meet up for the holidays, big games for Denver and Brandon since they're playing the same college team, and we'll organize weekends to meet up. Sometimes here, sometimes y'all can come to me in Texas, and other times we can go visit Tobias. We can make this work. Besides, we have our group chat, right? It'll be fine." I know we all feel like we're losing something as our next chapter is about to begin in just six weeks' time. It's monumental. It's fucking huge.
