Chapter 18
Evil-Eye didn't answer him, but attacked him instead.
"No! No! Stop!" I yowled above the noise of the two dragons fighting.
I was answered by snarls and growls from Evil-Eye.
"We can't, Blaze, it's the curse. We must fight and whoever wins will be killed by none other then you."
So I stood there helplessly until I remembered that I had a whole lot more of animals in another one of the stone houses.
"Puppies, kittens, EVERY ANIMAL THAT CAN HELP, get your butts over here!"
Soon I heard many animals pounding there way across the grounds into the large stone house I sat in.
I waved my tail to signal them over to where I sat. Once they had come over, I leaped onto a high stone ledge that stuck out of the wall and yowled with anger, my tail arched over my back like a scorpion.
"We cannot have everybody turned against each other! Who here looks like they want trouble, to wage war instead of peace?"
All the puppies and kittens and everybody else turned to the two massive dragons still quarrelling in the middle of the house.
"Um..." I stammered. "Who wants to help defeat them?"
Most of the animals mumbled amongst themselves and turned their backs. My tail started to droop, but then the largest animal with me, a friendly plump bear said, "I will," and then he lowered his head to gaze at the little baby animals, "I can't let the babies get hurt."
"Thank you!" I mewed in happiness.
"Can I speak to the adults please?"
All the older animals nodded and I spoke.
"So, if we want to defeat the dragons we need to know, who is going to be the one who kills them? I know you all know we need to fight, but how? Does anyone have a plan?"
My eyes swept over all the animals until they came across Horus staring at a sharp dagger on the wall.
"Yes, Horus? What is it? Can it help us defeat these drag-"
I was cut off by a huge roar and a smash as Evil-Eye's brother fell through the air and onto the ground.
"Is he dead?" A half-blind toad hopped forward and looked into its blank eye.
"Yup..." He croaked and then fell forwards in tiredness- he was an old toad.
By the time I looked back around, Horus had grabbed the dagger and was charging towards Evil-Eye.
When he was a tail-length away, Evil-Eye let out an unexpected burst of hot, orange flame and set fire to the floor.
Horus howled in pain and the scent of singed fur and smoke swamped my nose, but still, he charged forwards.
I felt so helpless watching from a distance, so I began to run towards him but before I reached Horus, two long, deep wails filled the air and Evil-Eye was dead. But where was Horus?
I glanced around but couldn't see him.
"Blaze," a voice gasped from somewhere in the flames.
"Horus!" I cried.
All I could hear for a second was the animals shuffling out of the building and flames licking the walls.
"Blaze... Go, I won't make it."
But I refused to give up... I needed to see Horus one last time.
I galloped through the flames, wincing at the sharp pain in my paws and started to have trouble breathing.
And then I saw him. He was lying on his side breathing heavily and shallow.
"Come on, Horus, we have to make it out! I won't leave until you come."
A large figure now stood beside me and we padded out the door slowly, but we would be fine.
When we got out the door, I saw worried yellow eyes greeting me and licking my face.
"Blaze..." Rush growled. "Don't do that again, you scared me!"
"Oh, don't be like that, you don't like me that much." I purred.
"Oh yes I do."
And he twined his tail with mine and we lay down to sleep.
