Chapter 9

"Here we are...."

Stargazer took in a deep breath as she entered the grand library of the Aldrothian Deities, feeling refreshed by the smell of knowledge and books. Eons worth of historical and ancient texts were stored here, copies of books from other Realms that had either been far too damaged to be read, or books that had been burned to ashes to erase the information.

The library was clearly well taken care of, as she had been both expecting and hoping. Such precious texts deserved the best care, deserved far more attention and gentleness than any rarity of jewels in this Realm received.

She didn't really know what she was looking for exactly. She just knew she was looking for something new to learn, to research. Her brain always seemed to know where new information was stored, and her legs would carry her there.

What exactly could be hidden in this library? The grand library was one of the, if not the biggest, largest libraries in all of the Realms. The information contained within this room was so grand that the commoners of Aldroth couldn't get a glimpse of it, not even the nobility or religious figureheads were allowed to touch them. Only the Aldrothian Deities and blood members were allowed in the library, though Stargazer seemed to be the only one to actually be interested in reading them.

Stargazer headed up the large staircase, going to the second floor of the library. There were bronze tables set up, with comfortably cushioned seats set up at each one. Cases and shelves filled to the brim with books lined the walls and room, but a specific section of the books had caught her eye.

Approaching the bookshelf, she ran her fingers along the spines of the books. She grabbed the books one by one, reading the titles before placing them back into their proper places. The names of the books were all related to some mythological stories or historical events and organizations. None of the books were as interesting as those she had already read, though she knew better than to judge them by the covers.

"Ah.... it's you....." A voice said from behind her, sounding on the quieter side. "You're Stargazer, right?"

Stargazer turned around to face the new person, and saw a male standing there. He was a Dragon Hybrid just like her, but she had high doubts that they were of the same bloodline or nationality. Zane had said, after all, that Nerula had been destroyed... her home, the place she was meant to protect...

"Who's asking? State your name, first and last." Stargazer responded, putting on a cold face.

"O-Oh.. right.... I'm.... I'm Leon Ro'Meave..." The Dragon Hybrid identified themselves, performing a small bow of respect. "I-I suppose you are my aunt, or at least one of them...."

"I suppose that would be the case, depending on who your father is. I highly doubt that you are a descendant of my older sister, Diamond." She gave a slight nod, closing her eye. " What business do you have here?"

"I was going to ask you the same thing, but then I realized who you were, and... well.... it made complete sense...." He cleared his throat, shuffling on his feet. "I usually come here to get some peace and quiet, and some space... sometimes I read the books, though...."

"I would have assumed you or someone else here would know which books are the best." She stated, her tail giving a small flick. "However, you seem to have very little knowledge of this library's books."

"There's this one book I have out on a table, but it didn't really interest me... maybe you would like it? I can't understand the language it's in, but maybe you can since, y'know, you're practically ancient...." Leon said, before apologizing. "Ah... I'm sorry, Aunt Stargazer, I shouldn't have said something so disrespectful to my elder relatives."

"I thought Zane had started a movement against this hierarchy of the Aldrothian Deities?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow as she crossed her arms. "What have my half relatives done this time?"

"Er... well, yes, he did, but.... the Aldrothian Deities were in favor of keeping their unlimited power over the central Realm, and a majority of the people favored having a hierarchy in our family as well...." He responded quietly, but Stargazer could tell he was lying.

Hmm... interesting. What reason would he have to lie about such a thing? Stargazer thought, narrowing her silvery gray eye at him.

"You mentioned a book you had been reading." Stargazer recalled, her gaze washing over the shelves of books. "Do you have even the slightest idea what it's about?"

"No.... I'm sorry... my ancient Aldrothian translation class isn't going so well, I couldn't even translate the letter 'a' if my life depended on it...." He admitted, looking down. "But I can take you to the book, if you'd like."

Stargazer thought for a moment, analyzing the thoughts and physical appearance of Leon. He was definitely different from the children of Aldrothian Deities she had met. He wasn't full of himself and hadn't pulled the "I'm the child of an Aldrothian Deity" card yet. She didn't even know where to start with all of these books, so a suggestion wasn't too hurtful.

Also his name was simple and easy to pronounce, unlike everyone else's in this miserable hellhole.

"Yes.... I would appreciate that." She nodded, deciding to give the book a chance.

Leon nodded, turning around and walking down one of the aisles of books. He would look behind him every now and then to make sure she was still following him and hadn't gotten lost. Eventually they got to a rectangular table with a book set onto it, opened with a red bookmark beside it.

"This is the book.... can you read the title?" Leon asked her, handing her the book.

She picked up the bookmark, setting it in the book so she wouldn't lose it. She closed it, reading the title. For her reading ancient languages had always been easy, mostly because of years of practicing, and the fact that they were the common languages of her time.

"Vō Gaía Primera....." Stargazer read slowly, the words translating in her head. "'The First Geostorm'."

"How can you translate it so flawlessly? It took over ten years for me to even properly write and pronounce how to day 'hi'!" Leon gasped, his face showing clear fascination and amazement. "Are you an Aldrothian Deity?"

"I'm no Aldrothian Deity. I'm a Jade Juror, though judging by you expression you have no knowledge on what that is." She responded, shaking her head. "But, you asked how I can translate this so easily. I am from the medieval era of Midguard, and my bloodline and species originate from Nerula."

"Nerula? Wasn't that Realm.... ?" He began, but decided not to finish his sentence.

"Destroyed? Yes..." She nodded, and could feel the sadness swelling up her remaining eye and heart. "Thank you for reminding me."

"Sorry...." He apologized, clearly feeling guilty. "In the few stories I was told by my father, you were always void of any emotion. You never truly cared for or loved anything. I didn't think it would affect you as much."

Stargazer felt an urge to backhand Leon, but she knew not to. If Leon truly was a child of an Aldrothian Deity, harming him in any way could prove to be a most unwise situation. She had spent years studying the behaviors of each Aldrothian Deity, along with their bloodline hierarchy and stereotypes. The Aldrothian Deities were quite lazy and never paid attention to their people, but they were like embodiments of warfare and revenge when it came to their children.

"Now then..... what exactly is a Geostorm?" Stargazer asked him, deciding to change the subject back to the book.

"If my memory is right, then it was a movie about the world ending by a series of natural disasters using a type of satellite in outer space, which was controlled by the government." Leon answered, trying to remember. "It's basically a storm that has different natural disasters happening all at once."

Obviously it's a storm, Stargazer thought in annoyance.

"And there's a certain time period when these disasters came into existence?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I never read the book, so I don't know." He shrugged, shifting on his feet. "I've never witnessed a geostorm myself."

Stargazer turned her attention back to the old book before her, deciding that they had spent enough time talking. All of her attention needed to be on the information this book contained, even if it was just a minor event. Besides, Leon proved to know absolutely nothing about the book.

Turning to the first page, she began to delve into the world of information inside.

"A geostorm is often described as a series of natural disasters. While this is true, there are many different kinds of geostorms. The threatening value of a geostorm is determined by the size of it, and the intensity of the disasters it bears.

Natural disasters occur for many reasons, but there is one reason that rules above all others. That reason is because they are meant to happen. Natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes keep the planet in balance, and tornadoes and hurricanes are results of mixtures in the atmosphere.

In the lands of many Gods, the immortal being who reigned over the Earth and nature was responsible for these happenings. In their mythologies, natural disasters were seen as signs of the Gods' displeasure with the mortals, a way of expressing their uncontained rage.

In Realms such as Midguard, natural disasters disrupted the daily lives of thousands of people. The inhabitants of the Realm had always harbored a hatred for things they could not control, and began to experiment with ways to prevent the natural disasters from occurring.

Despite common belief, the first geostorm to exist did not occur in Midguard. The first geostorm occurred in a Realm known as Nerula, a magical land filled with humanoid hybrid creatures."

Stargazer paused her reading for a moment, thinking. Zane had told her that Nerula had been destroyed, but not what had caused the Realm to collapse so suddenly. The book, if correct, stated that the very first geostorm had taken place in her home Realm. Perhaps that was the reason for the Realm's destruction. It was the most logical answer, anyway.

Pushing her thoughts to the side, she continued reading.

"During the time of the first geostorm, Nerula was being used as a battlefield in one of many Aldrothian Wars. It was another fierce battle between the Aldrothian Deity Alduin and the Divine Warriors.

The Divine Warriors, determined to protect all Realms from the cruel reign of Alduin, asked the Nerulians to aid them in their battle. Being a Realm of medieval civilizations, many tribes and clans had agreed to honor their warrior blood. One group that agreed was known as the Jade Jury, the sworn protectors of Nerula and all its peoples.

During the battle, things were not going too well for either side. Both forces were becoming smaller and weaker, but the aftermath of the battle would take the greatest toll on the inhabitants of Nerula. Villages and kingdoms were burned to the ground and destroyed, and even entire islands and continents were split into pieces.

This specific battle, known as the Aldrothian-Nerulian War, was the closest that Alduin had come to overpowering the Divine Warriors. Knowing that their defeat was coming and the terrible paths that Fate had for both them and all the Realms, one of the Divine Warriors decided to take action.

This Divine Warrior was not always such a marvelous person. They had no bloodline connection to any of the first Divines, but they were favored by those that remained. They had lived in the medieval era of Midguard, and knew the leader of the Divines very well.

The power this Divine Warrior had was gifted to him, although against his willpower. The power over nature was buried deep within his known abilities, for not even they themselves knew what they were capable of.

As the battle drew closer to an end, with the results being disastrous for the Divine Warriors and all the Realms, they became possessed by a monstrous wrath they had been keeping in chains for thousands of years.

This rage is said to have been containing the horrible experiences the Divine Warrior had, their traumatic memories, all of their anger, fear, and grief from all the years they had been alive. A rage that formed from the conditions of their broken mind, broken heart, broken world, and tortured soul.

This rage fueled them on the battlefield, making them unleash a new power.

This power was the first geostorm.

Because the Divine Warrior did not even know of this secret power of theirs, the force became uncontrollable. What began as light tampering with the weather and earth soon erupted into chaos. Large waves crashed over entire islands and continents, submerging the tiny pieces of land and the coasts beneath the waters. Lightning struck the large rainforests, and hurricanes and tornados wrecked havoc on the land. Earthquakes broke the continents apart, and large chunks of hail crashed down. Volcanos erupted into messes of lava, and other natural disasters soon occurred.

The Divine Warrior used their newfound burst of power to attack and fight the Aldrothian Deity, wounding him to the point of retreat.

A surge of energy was soon released from the Divine Warrior, which ripped open the Realm Barriers and forced the Aldrothians and most of the Divine Warriors' forces back to their original Realms. The Divine Warrior, who shall be addressed as the Creator of the Geostorm, was returned to his original Realm as well, and sealed into a deep slumber, only able to rise again in the next Aldrothian War.

The force released from the Creator of the Geostorm, which had torn open the Realm Barriers, attracted the Void to Nerula. The Void was easily able to invade the Realm's core, and thus began the destruction of the Realm.

The leader of the Divine Warriors could only slow down the collapse, they were unable to stop it. They used the little time they had managed to make to save as many Nerulians as they could, sealing them in her own Realm until she could find them a more suitable home.

The destruction of Nerula was brutal. The deaths of its inhabitants were slow and seething with pain, the Void and its forces corrupting each of them. The leader of the Divine Warriors managed to save the descendants of the Jade Jurors, as well as members of the other species.

The destruction of Nerula lasted for three days, and then the Realm collapsed completely, being absorbed into the chaotic matter of the Void once more. The explosion from the core could be heard through Realms with weaker sound barriers, and the effects lasted for years. The effects were smaller versions of geostorms, and no geostorms has been able to compare to the first.

The name of the Divine Warrior who caused the first geostorm is"

Stargazer looked up immediately as she heard a loud bam, and heard the doors of the library be thrown open. Footsteps were pounding against the floor, and it sounded like they were running, looking for something or someone. She quickly glanced back down, catching the name of the Divine Warrior. The one who created the geostorm, the one who destroyed Nerula.

"Stargazer, there you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!"

Stargazer slowly looked up, meeting the one visible eye of her older brother, Zane Ro'Meave. She noticed that Leon was now missing from the scene, but she hardly cared. Zane looked like he had been running all over, as he was gasping for air as his face was slightly red.

"Zane, I need to know something...." Stargazer began, putting the bookmark in and slowly closing the book.

"I have things to talk to you about too, but go ahead." Zane sighed, raising an eyebrow as his tail flicked. "You're acting weird.... what's wrong? Does it involve Nerula?"

"Yes...." She nodded, standing up and facing him.

"Star, I know it's hard to deal with something like this. As an Aldrothian Deity I've outlived many of the people I care for, and I've witnessed the destructions of many Realms and places." He opened his arms for a hug, but Stargazer refused. "Star...?"

Stargazer slowly lifted her head up, staring him right in the eye. In a dark, monotone voice she spoke. Her voice sent shivers down Zane's spine, she could tell just by looking at his face.

"Is it true?" She demanded, her blank stare becoming a glare.

"Is what true?" He asked, a cold sweat starting to form.

In just a few seconds, Stargazer had grabbed the front of Zane's robes and yanked him down, their faces only a few inches from each other.

"Is it true that Laurance Zvhal destroyed Nerula!?"
