It's The Thought That Counts

Mangareader90 here! I start school Tuesday, so the weekends will now be the only days I can update. Now then, Masashi Kishimoto owns Naruto, not us, so, yeah. Enjoy the chapter!

"Thank you for coming to pick us up," Itachi told me and I nodded, my face red.

When I had gone to pick them up Shisui had properly told me what happened. The situation was embarrassing enough, but I couldn't even talk to Sam because she was still frozen from shock. Itachi was the only one in the car besides Sam and he wasn't known for being the most talkative person.

I drove with the radio being the only sound in the car. It took about twenty minutes until we arrived back home and I parked the car in my parking spot, turning my lights off and taking the keys out of the ignition. I opened the car door as I stuck the keys into my pocket. I heard one of the car doors open and I knew it was Itachi's.

"I'll get Sam," Itachi told me.

"Uh huh," I muttered, quickly walking towards the door. I had to tell Shiro what just happened. Hopefully no one else told him yet.

I arrived at the front door and opened it, noticing that all the lights were on in the house, but I didn't see anyone. I stopped when I heard silent tapping. I walked towards the source of the sound and arrived at the safe. Did Kakuzu lock himself in again while counting money?

"Kakuzu, this is the fifteenth time that you've locked yourself in," I sighed, opening the door up, noticing the key was still in place. To my surprise, I came face to face with Sasori.

"Finally. That brat trapped me in there for hours," Sasori pointed to Shiro, who was currently passed out on the floor.

"Uh huh...why?" I asked.

"He was planning a birthday party for you. Which is really stupid because..." Sasori stopped mid-sentence, shaking his head and sighing.

"Are you okay?" I asked him. He just shook his head and started walking out of the room before pausing to glance at me.

"I have a headache. Meet me outside in a few minutes," Sasori walked away from me and I just smiled. It may have been a few days too late, but at least Shiro was thinking of me. It's always the thought that counts.

"Okay, Shiro, you okay?" I asked, leaning down next to him. No response. I stood up and nudged him with my foot, but all he did was roll over. I sighed and grabbed his feet, starting to drag him towards the living room.

The living room was also vacant and I was starting to wonder where everyone was. I debated on how to get him onto the couch because I had literally no upper body strength. I decided to start by putting his feet on one end and then lifting his hands up onto the other end, successfully putting his whole body onto the couch.

I then proceeded to walk towards the bathroom, pulled out the mirror, and took four things of aspirin out of one of the bottles before closing the mirror in front of the medicine again. I then walked into the kitchen and filled two glasses with water before going back into the living room and placing two of the aspirins and one of the glasses of water on the table beside Shiro so that when he woke up he would see them.

I remembered Sasori telling me to meet him outside, so I started walking out to the back. I got there and I saw Sasori lying on his back on a blanket in the grass. I don't know if he heard me shut the door or not, but if he didn't he didn't make any indication of it. I walked towards him and took the other two aspirins out of my pocket. I bent down next to Sasori and held out the aspirin and glass of water.

"For your headache," I told him. He sat up and took them, gulping the aspirin down with the water.

"Took you long enough to get out here," he stated once he finished them. I shrugged.

"I had to get Shiro onto the couch. If I left him in the safe and Kakuzu found him...well, it wouldn't have been good," I explained. Kakuzu kept to himself most of the time, but he could be scary when the subject of money came up. He was even scarier if the subject of his money being spent came up.

"I don't really care," Sasori commented. I smiled. He was rude, really really rude. But, he always helped us out even if he didn't want to. Whether it's because he's our friend or if it's because he's scared of Sam I'll never know.

"Hm," I looked up at the night sky, seeing a lot of stars. I even saw the big dipper and I couldn't help but smile even more. It was the only constellation I knew, besides the little dipper, and I always liked to see it.

"There's a lot of stars out tonight," Sasori commented. I nodded.

"It's really beautiful, isn't it?" I asked.

"Depends on the person viewing it," Sasori responded.

"Yeah," I stated half-heartedly. I really loved the stars, but it was rare that I got to see them anymore. Nights got more scary and dangerous, you never knew what would happen if you stepped outside, and being distracted by something was even more dangerous. It was worth it though, just to see the moon and stars that made the sky into a living canvas.

"Everyone is out getting presents and streamers and all that s***," Sasori commented randomly and I looked at him.

"Why?" I asked. It didn't make sense that they would be doing this. Unless someone was throwing a party for someone at school. Sometimes people asked for our help with that stuff.

"For your belated birthday," Sasori responded. I laughed.

"Really? Wow. Huh, I really think it's not worth it, but if they have fun doing that then it's okay. Itachi and Sam are here. Did you hear about what happened?" I asked him.

"No. I don't really care either," Sasori laid back down and I sighed. Talking to him was kind of like talking to Itachi. It was easier, but they both could care less. Sasori just responded more sassily than Itachi.

"Ah. Well, I'll go back inside then," I started to leave, but I didn't get very far before he responded.

"I asked you to meet me outside. I thought you liked the stars," Sasori started sitting up, staring at me.

"Well, I do, but don't you want to just be alone?" I was confused now.

"Just sit down," Sasori laid back down again and this time I joined him, sitting on the blanket. I wouldn't have cared if I had to sit on the grass, but the blanket was more comfortable.

"So what did you want?" I inquired, not looking at him.

"I wanted to show you the sky. I knew you would have just started to do your homework as soon as you got back without seeing it, and you would have regretted doing that in the morning," Sasori spoke up. I widened my eyes.

"My homework! I still have stuff to do, and-" before I could say anything else I felt a hand go over my mouth. I turned to look at Sasori who was now sitting up.

"Be quiet or you'll bring back my headache. Just do your homework later and stop panicking," I blushed when he removed his hand and I just nodded, lying down.

The sky was really pretty. And he did have a point. I could just stay up and do my homework. It didn't hurt to waste my time for a little bit, everyone else in the Akatsuki did it all the time. Even Itachi. Everything was quiet except for the faint sound of breathing. I turned my head to look at Sasori, who currently had his eyes closed. I wondered if he fell asleep.

I turned my head back to the sky and I felt the corners of my mouth pull up into another smile. It was really peaceful just sitting and staring at the stars. I felt my eyelids start to drop, and my muscles ached from working. I was starting to fall asleep.

"Hey danna! We're back!" Deidara's voice made me come back to reality and I sat up quickly, turning to see him and Kisame carrying bags. Everything was quiet as Kisame and Deidara stared at me, grinning.

"So....did you two hear about Itachi and Sam?" I asked, before they could say anything. They both nodded.

"Yeah, Itachi texted me," Kisame commented.

I stood up, ready to go inside. I heard Sasori stir from beside me, but I didn't turn to look at him.

"Well, I have homework to do so, I'll just go do that," I muttered, running back inside and racing up the stairs into my room.

If Konan and Pein had been the ones to walk outside, they would have just assumed that we were looking at the stars, which we were doing. But no, I had to get stuck with Deidara and Kisame being the ones to walk outside. The two people who assumed everything out of nothing.

I heard my phone buzz and I glanced at it.

Manga...I'm just now starting to realize what happened at the police station...my face feels like someone threw fire at me.

-Sam

I stifled my laughter. At least she was somewhat back to normal. I got out the homework I needed to finish, but before I could even start I heard my phone buzz again. I quickly glanced at it.

Kisame and Deidara just texted me. You won't believe what they just told me :)

-Sam

Also, Shiro just texted me something about being locked in the safe and just now coming back into consciousness. What the f*** is that about?

I threw my phone onto the bed and buried my head into my hands. I don't think I'll have any trouble staying up now.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a normal day.
