??? POV
I gazed out my window, staring at the world, was I the only one who wished to see it burn? Horror fills it, lost souls wandering about, merely just existing. Tragic really. To exist, rather than live.
I knocked on my desk twice, signalling a guard outside my room to enter. He immediately ran in, bowing as he entered.
"I'm going out today. I don't want anyone to follow me, spread the word," I told him as I picked out something to change into since I was still sitting in my pyjamas. It was difficult to even get out of bed let alone fine the energy to do something productive.
I stepped out my bedroom, treading down the fully armed hallways, full of my guards. It made me internally sigh, when did everything go so wrong? So sinful. What had I become? Or was this always me? Someone playing as an angel straight from heaven who could finally be himself. The devil.
I wasn't complaining about it though, this life had always struck excitement in me, so thrilling. It's just, from time to time I realise, this isn't what she would've wanted.
I took a deep breath, plugging in my headphones while walking around the streets of Busan. I found it so interesting how we run into new people everyday, just to never see them again. It brings me peace. That these innocents won't have to be in the presence of a man like me, ever again.
While walking some girl rushed my way, bumping into me which since I have incredibly fast reflexes, resulted in catching her.
She sort of froze in that position, staring into my eyes, which were the only thing she could really see because of the mask I still had on.
"Are you an idiot?" I raised an eyebrow, tired of her thinking she was in some drama. She quickly pushed me away and stared back at me coldly.
"Are YOU an idiot? If you see someone running your way clearly looking like they're in a hurry, I'm pretty sure the most common sense thing to do would be to, you know, move out the way," she replied, making my lips turn up in interest.
"Is something funny?" She questioned with an annoyed tone, probably noticing my smirk form through my mask because of her behaviour.
"Yeah, I just saved you from falling, and I haven't gotten a thank you," I replied.
"You're welcome," she spoke.
"For what exactly?" I tilted my head. "You see I normally cut people's hands off when they touch me," she glared.
"Am I an exception?" I chuckled, putting my hands in my pocket. "No, you're just lucky I have to be somewhere to be right now." She barged past me, making things fall out of my open pocket. Thinking it was just loose change from the water bottle I had bought earlier, I just walked off.
I rested at a bus stop, my train of thoughts racing with only her. That girl from earlier. What a peculiar soul. She lives. And you can see it in her eyes.
I continued to listen to music, watching every other stranger pass by. I glanced down at my watch, eyebrows naturally raising at the amount of time that had passed with me doing absolutely nothing. I got up, heading into a bar, resting my head on the counter of the table.
"What can I get you sir?" The bartender asked me, I ignored his question and kept my head down, not being able to find the energy to respond.
"He'll take a martini, I'll take some juice," someone spoke on my behalf as I felt a presence of someone sitting next to me. I raised my head to look at her. "Who would've thought we'd meet again?" I thought, staring at the rude girl who had bumped into me earlier in the day. I had taken my mask off when I entered so she didn't recognise me.
"I guess the way you act changes when you see a handsome man, and here I was thinking you were different," I tiredly ran my hands through my hair.
"Where's the handsome man?" She looked around making me hold her chin to make her look at me. I raised my eyebrows tauntingly, tilting my head at her analysing my face.
"Ah, someone lied to you really hard didn't they?" She slapping my hand away, paying the bartender as our drinks had finally arrived. "Don't try to act like I'm not one of the most handsome men you've seen before," I scoffed, taking a sip of my drink.
"Why are you drinking juice at a bar?" I asked.
"Oh, I don't drink alcohol, my tolerance isn't even half a shot," she replied, sipping her juice. "So what are you doing at a bar?" I questioned, "I like the atmosphere," she shortly responded.
"Aren't you gonna introduce yourself?" I spoke up. "Oh, silly me, hi. I'm Byeol," she conveyed, "and you might be? Actually, let me guess, hmm. You look like a..." I watched her squint her eyes and try to guess my name based on my looks making me smile the slightest.
"Just call me... JK,"
We talked for what felt like 5 minutes, but 2 hours had actually gone by. "I'll be back in a second, I need to go to the toilet," I quickly informed her. While washing my hands I really felt, good. Just talking to her made me feel content, how weird.
I headed back in to see her wave at me happily. I sat down and poured in another glass of wine, for me and for her. "I can't drink alcohol though," she complained. "Just drink. I can carry you home if you have such a bad tolerance," I told her.
"How can I know you won't kill me or something?" She joked, "there's only one way to find out love," I raised my glass. She rolled her eyes, shortly smiling after as she took the drink, clinking it against mine before turning the other way to drink. I chuckled at her manners, chugging my entire glass down.
Things began to get blurry, my vision had started to alter as I struggled to merely keep my eyes open. We both stumbled on our own feet trying to get up. I glanced at her, making eye contact as it felt like the world had come to a halt. Her hair softly fell onto her face as the wind from an open door entered. Everything had gone into slow motion like in the movies. This happening made me look at her properly, look at her entire face.
She was beautiful.
While admiring her, I started feeling hot, like suffocating type hot. And then everything went. Black.
Next morning
I was fast asleep when someone screamed. "Get up, get up, GET UP!"
I kept hearing something more annoying than my alarm. I sat up in my bed with my eyes still shut tight. "Who shouts this early in the morning? What the fuck do you want?" My morning voice was as deep as ever, I couldn't get myself to open my eyes.
"Open. Your. Mother. Fucking. Eyes." I heard a familiar rude voice say. I slowly opened my eyes, rubbing them as I could finally realise the situation. A gasp escaped my lips, quickly grabbing a pillow to cover my bare chest, luckily, I still had my shorts on. "Did we..."
"You better wish we didn't," Byeol said, getting up with the blanket still covering her. I followed her outside the door, knowing my guards would see her and grab her. To my surprise, no one was standing outside. I looked down the stairs to see my guards drop dead like flies. Someone had broken in.
"Fuck," I pushed her into my room and ran downstairs with nothing but my bare hands. "Seems like I'll finally be able to kill you.. Euphoria," the masked man said, looking at me.
"Yeah yeah, hurry up and say your last words," I yawned, cracking my neck while still tired since it was early in the morning. "Shouldn't you be saying that to the girl up there?" He furrowed his eyebrows, I turned around to see Byeol curiously watching both of us from the top of the staircase.
"MOVE!" I screamed, as the man threw a knife aimed for her face.
I had never seen someone move so fast, she didn't even flinch when it was thrown at her. She jumped off the top of the stairs landing on her knees smoothly. She slowly walked towards the kitchen, seeming so relaxed.
The man grabbed me by the neck holding a knife to my throat. I cursed under my breath, knowing I couldn't show my true self infront of her, or else I would have to end up killing her for knowing my secret. And for some reason, I didn't wanna have to do that.
She grabbed a knife and stared at him blankly.
"Drop it," he said strangling me further. She smirked putting it on the counter in front of her, she walked 2 steps foward.
"Don't move or I'll kill him!" He screamed at her.
"What makes you think I need to move to kill you?" She said, grabbing the knife she had put on the counter and throwing it to stab the guy straight in the neck.
In a world where guns and more advanced weapons were used, she looked skilled in sword techniques that aren't even used in South Korea. Without even looking, without even aiming, she hit him from so far away.
"Interesting, people from the north are known for being skilled with knives..." I thought, looking her up and down.
"Aren't you gonna check if he's dead?" I nudged her. "I threw the knife so it would slit through his main vein. There's no possibility of him still being alive," she informed calmly. "Yah what if you missed and accidentally hit me?" I exclaimed.
"You see, people like me don't miss. Especially when we're dealing with knives," she chuckled, looking at me.
"Who exactly are people like you? North Koreans?"
"Say that again. I fucking dare you."
