Epilogue
Jax buttoned the end of his sleeve, his eyes unconsciously drifting to the closed bathroom door where Alianna was getting ready for a small get together luncheon. He had every reason to be anxious but at the same time did not want to be, just in case his worries amounted to nothing.
His head snapped up as he heard a thud from the bathroom. He dashed over, "Alianna?" he called, his hand turning the knob simultaneously.
He inhaled sharply as he saw Alianna in her beautiful day dress crumpled to the floor next to the tub. Her eyes were fixated, opened wide with shock, on the toilet where the lid was closed.
"Darling, are you alright?" Jax asked, his heart racing when his words fell on deaf ears. Keeping his eye on her, Jax shuffled to the toilet, giving her one last look and a chance to explain herself before he looked down and his breath caught in his chest.
On the lid were three pregnancy tests, twenty dollar things that indicated something priceless, as all three showed the same result.
Two strong, solid lines.
Happiness and joy blossomed in Jax's chest and a grin spread across his face. It had been a euphoric two years of marriage where every day felt as a dream, waking up to each other without having death looming over them like a dark cloud. They had never actively decided when they wanted kids and when Alianna wanted off her birth control; they both had the mutual understanding of, whatever happens; happens.
Jax turned to his wife and smile instantly disappeared as she was still shell shocked on the bathroom floor. Her terrified expression was one he had hoped never to see again as long as he breathed. He sat on the floor next to her, not worrying when Alianna did not acknowledge his presence nor proximity. He knew she would talk when she was ready.
"I'm scared."
Jax looked up at her as she looked at her hands. His eyes drifted to her wedding ring but soon refocused on her, understanding her fear since they hadn't seriously talked about kids. "Don't be love."
"These hands," she murmured, frowning and her tone mournful, "these hands have taken so many lives. How can they.....how can I bring life into this world?"
Jax took her hands in his, "Because you're Alianna Boveri. You are amazing, you learned to love when no one taught you how. You were forged in conditions synonymous with the depths of hell and have risen. You are strong, physically, emotionally, mentally, you are so much stronger that you know. You are going to be a great mother, I know you are."
"I don't know how," she whispered.
"Genevra will help you love. She loves you like a daughter and she will be with you every step of the way."
"And you?"
Jax cupped her face. "And I'm going to be with you every second. You are my love, my rose, the centre of my life but now," his hands drifted to below her navel over her dress, "there is going to be two of you."
A slow smile spread across Alianna's face, "Or two of you," she pressed her lips to his slowly as her hand rest on top of his on her body. Their unspoken joy and elation outweighed the fear and their excitement grew with the fervor of their kiss.
"What's next?" Alianna panted as she pulled back. She would forever love the look of her lipstick on Jax's lips.
"We go to your gynecologist and she will confirm that you are pregnant and make sure our baby is healthy and well."
Our baby. Those words rang in Alianna's head. "Oh, when can we tell everybody?"
Jax stood up before helping Alianna up gently, as if she was fine china. He pulled her closer, his hands resting on her hips, his thumb rubbing the spot below her navel. "Some women wait until they are past the three month mark because the risk of miscarriages are reduced, I believe, but we can announce it after the appointment if you wish."
Alianna gave Jax knowing look as her hands wrapped around his neck. "Oh please, I know you," she grinned, "you will tell everyone before lunch is served."
"Your lack of faith wounds me," Jax teased, kissing the area right below her ear.
Alianna's heart thudded, "Would you rather I stab you?"
Jax grinned and her heart smiled, "I rather you not; I don't want to have to deal with that aftermath."
