CHAPTER THREE;

Brokenhearted, ended up where we started.

That's how they ended up with a knocked out Jessie and Alex in one of their hideaway houses.

Alex was taken away to the medical facility in the house and Jessie was placed upstairs in a bedroom with a locked door only accessible by the outside.

When Jessie woke up, he was greeted with a pounding headache and the sun blaring through the window. He groaned in pain, holding at his head as if his hand held a magical power that would take away the throbbing sensation.

Jessie sat up, his vision blurred a bit as he tried to focus on the unfamiliar surroundings. As much as he wanted to listen to his hitman instincts, he really could not be bothered. He knew who took him and if he was being honest, there was no doubt in his mind that either of them truly wanted to cause him harm.

So instead of rushing out of the bed to find a way out, he simply laid back down and closed his eyes. "Oh yeah, the sun." He mumbled out as he grabbed the pillow and placed it over his head to block out the light that was shining right on his face.

Jessie laid there for some time, before the sound of a click and a door opening brought him back down from his thoughts. "Please for the love of god have something for a headache or I think I'm going to throw up."

Once he heard the sound of a pill bottle shake, he was quick to remove the pillow from his face and sit up. He came face to face with Maverick, although it was clear that Maverick had aged, it was like wine.

He still held the dark brown eyes and caramel colored hair, there was now some greys coming through. His beard also had a few grey strands as well.

Jessie on the other hand, had only grown more feminine and soft, which was odd given his line of work. His hair was now past his shoulders and held soft waves. He also appeared to have gained some weight, which allowed his face to appear more soft and full.

The two stared at each other for a while, before Maverick held out the pillow bottle for Jessie to take.

Jessie took the container without hesitation, opening it and shaking out a small pill onto his hand. "Drink?" He asked, looking around. Maverick walked over to a mini fridge in the corner, grabbing a powerade and handing it to Jess.

The other gladly accepted it as well, popping the pill into his mouth, opening the bottle and taking a sip to wash down the pill.

Once Jessie was done, he placed the drink on the bedside table and laid back down. He squinted once again at the bright light in his face, grabbing the pillow and placing it back
on his head. "Thank you," He spoke softly.

He heard some shuffling and before long, the bright light was no longer in his face. He left
out a sigh of relief and removed the pillow from
his face.

Jessie reopened his eyes, "Alex?" He asked, looking at Mave.

"They are currently in recovery. They had to get a couple stitches, didn't lose much blood as it was only a minor injury." Maverick explained, Jessie let out another sigh. "Okay good."

Tell a truth or face some lies, merely living to survive.

The pair stayed quiet for a bit, before Jessie could mumble out, "Don't you have questions?"

"There's no point in asking if I know you wouldn't want to tell me." Maverick replied.

"Would you answer a question I have?" Jessie asked.

"Depends on the question." Mave replied.

Silence.

"Was it easy?"

Although the question was incredibly vague, Maverick knew exactly what Jessie was asking about.

The air felt tense as his struggled with trying to answer such a simple question. Yet, it seemed like every possible answer was not good enough.

"Fuck no." Maverick spoke, letting out all the tension in the air. The weight felt lifted and the pair no longer had to act like they weren't hurt. "It hurt, so much."

The walls both had built up came tumbling down in full force and crumbled to the ground in defeat. "Mave?"

"Hmm?" The other replied, so afraid to speak as his voice would fail him and he would become a wreck.

"Please hold me."

And that's all it took for Maverick to step over to the bed, laying himself down in the empty space on the bed and pulling Jessie to him.

Maverick melted into Jessie's arms, the pure comfort of being held by someone who your arms missed holding made the pair feel whole again.

"How did you live on without me?" Jessie whispered.

"I didn't."
