Chapter 10: Tears
Ryan's POV
The thing about beauty is, it exists everywhere.
My perspective about beauty had changed over the years. When I was in freshman, I considered beauty consisting of slim bodies and pounds of makeup. But as I grew up, not much, but perhaps enough to come to know about what it's like to observe beauty.
People were scared of dark but then, moon made it aesthetically pleasing. They were afraid of fire, but it's heat and it's brightness allowed to people to see through the contrasting colours of the rising flares of fires. And, the sky. It's vastness had planted a seed of fear among the people but stars, made it exquisite.
Similarly, Jane.
I had never got the feeling of having my heart threatening to leap out of my chest by a first glance. First glance of her eyes that were nothing but a sharp pierce. Never did my lips shot up in a smile at her face and my eyes asking to simply sit, and observe.
Her presence had a aura from which escaping was painful and difficult. How could one be this beautiful? I could sit and watch her for whole day if I get a chance for it.
Her shoulder touched with mine as we both made an attempt to enter the park through the door at the same time. I took a step back allowing her to pass. She walked—limbed in those freaking high heels that gave a gorgeous look to those legs — but then, when she couldn't walk anymore, she bent down and took them off simultaneously blowing a breath of relief. I smiled at her action. Tucking my hands in my pocket, I walked up to her.
'Pleasant right?' I asked her as I jerked my head up to the moon that never failed to illuminate the sky in a virtuous manner.
'Yes. To my feet and my body, both.' She replied as she rocked on her heels, deliberately enjoying the freedom.
I smiled. 'I thought you might need it.' I told her. Ever since I found her in bruised elbow and a finger-printed neck, I thought taking her home straight would do her no good. Though I badly craved to know what exactly betided to her but there was no need to push her. She needed to relax, let her frustrations out, and clear her mind.
She jerked her neck to me and I saved myself from falling into the depth of those ocean blue eyes. They were crystallised but one breath, and all the moisture went away.
Another one and all memories rushed back.
'Thank you,' She said and looked down at her elbow certainly wrapped in my handkerchief.
'No problem.' I trailed off again considering the fact that my question might hurt her feelings but I needed to know. I needed to know if I had made a silent promise to myself in the car that I would help her. 'Did you know him?'
'Yeah ...' she swallowed, 'he was my ...' she looked down on her feet, 'ex's friend.'
'Oh,'
'And he's back and I can't do anything about it.' She twiddled with her thumbs.
'You can call the police or get someone's help if he's so bothersome.'
She shook her head as she sat on the bench again, running hand through her hair, pushing her bangs away. 'I can't. He's too rich.'
'You are too. You can tell your mom. She would help won't she?'
'She won't.'
'Why not? She's your mother.' As I said this, she shook her head further and hid her face beneath her hands. I heard her sniffing.
'Are you okay?' I knew it was a stupid question but I didn't know what else to do.
'I need to go back.' She picked up her heels and was about to walk past me when I stopped her as I grabbed her uninjured forearm.
'Tell me, how can I help?'
Tears prickled in her eyes and I watched one that fell down on the ground. 'Take me back home. I'll be fine. I can—' she hiccuped 'handle—' she wiped off her tears that won't stop falling, 'myself.'
'Jane.'
'I am fine.' She wiped her cheeks more furiously but the tears didn't stop. I could tell she hated crying in front of anyone. But I didn't want to be just anyone for her.
So I pulled her forearm, bringing her to my chest.
I wrapped my arms around her figure. She welcomed the embrace as she cried in my shirt. 'Why does the past can't stay where it was, Ryan?' She asked me, her voice broke and hoard.
Past, Jane? How will it go back if you make it your future? How will the knife stop hurting if you keep it uncovered to yourself?
A flood of questions rushed through my mind. But I was not blind to the past's gnashed on her body either. If I'll ask, maybe, she dies right away. For the blood in the form of tears was already oozing out of the wounds.
So I kept quiet and listened to her. Listened to the drop of her tears falling on my shirt and the zzoop of them being absorbed. I listened to the silent yells of her heart shattering into pieces—the pieces I wanted to pick up by my own hands.
But I didn't do anything.
The silent sounds did not allow me to.
I rested my chin on her head, stroking my thumb on her back to soothe her. I touched something not-so-smooth and when I looked down, I noticed a scar on her neck.
Again, the flood.
Again, the decision of quietness.
When her crying was calmed down, she sniffed and relaxed. 'It's Ok.' I spoke softly. 'It all is OK.'
Another breath and the sadness went away.

Halo guys! This chapter didn't turn out how I had formed it in my mind. I was halfway writing my chapter when the idea popped in my mind and I madly began writing it.
It's 2:01 am where I live and my fingers are burning now.
Please make my day/night guys by simple clicking into the star. It helps me motivate so I could write more.
Don't be a silent reader.
