×Chapter 8×

^^^Nathan^^^
•~••~•
Two weeks has passed since I have been adopted by the Lennox family.
I guess you could say I'm finally, but of course slowly, warming up to them. Yes even Ron who only grunts halve the time, besides that it's friday afternoon and William had allowed me to have Aneska and Nathan over to hang out.
Nathan was coming over in 30 since he was coming from work, but atleast I have Aneska for company for the walk to my house. It does get boring.
"So are we walking to ya house or what?" Aneska asked me as she fixed up her snap-back and tidy'd up her long black hair.
"Well if Ron-"
"Who is this Ron anyways? Is he ya boyfriend?" Aneska cut me off, now questioning me.
Aneska had been full on detective on me this whole week since Ron picked me up most of the time, because of that; she found out I was adopted during the first week I had met her.
It didn't help that Nathan figured it out aswell, but later on.
Was it that obvious I was adopted?
"No" I sigh out with slight annoyance.
Aneska has been asking me this same question since the first day I have met her. It started to get tiring. "Ron is not my boyfriend Aneska. For the thousandth time" I rolled my eyes at her face of disbelief, but in the end she put her hands up in surrender.
"I am just sayin'!" Aneska defended herself with a cheeky grin, but my attention was caught by my phone as it vibrated.
Inatantly I checked it. "You're Walking home." I groaned at this. Laziness already kicking in.
"Ah, so we are walkin' home then!" Aneska exclaimed peeping over my shoulder, I jumped a little startled at that.
"Don't read my messages you short-ass!" I scold her while putting my phone away, pulling a face at Aneska who now playfully glared at me.
"I am not short!" I snorted at her mock outrage. "Keep saying that Aneska."
It was true, she was quite short, she reached just mid-way of my nose. Shortness ran in her family she claimed, but I think she just got skipped in the generations.
"Hazel...you know how ya' explained that Mission City information to me the other day?" Aneska started a conversation while skidding her feet across the dirt footpath on our journey home.
"Yeah?" I raise an eyebrow at the sudden question. Aneska and Nathan knows what had happened to my family now, it was because I actually felt...comfortable?
They actually didn't believe I was crazy, They believed me. I guess there is such things as true friends.
After a very emotional discussion, it turned out Aneska had lost her dad in Mission City the same day, but she never witnessed it. So she had to believe it was a terrorist attack.
I felt guilty for telling her the truth. I felt that I had somehow opened all the closed wounds that had healed for Aneska in that very moment.
Instead we were determent to find out what ACTUALLY happened it Mission City that day and WHY it happened.
This makes me wonder if Ron believes me. He was the first person to know about my backstory...well part of it, but I never received a reply back on it and he never brought it back up again.
Like it never happened.
Like everything else that has happened.
"Well I have discussed this with Nathan and he said, he could try to hack into the military system-" I cut Aneska off instantly.
"Wow! Hold up! I do not want to go to jail for the rest of my life!" I shriek in panic with wide brown eyes. Aneska guitily scratched the back of her head with a small grin on her lips.
"Yeah, but what if they are hiding those alien robots in there?"Aneska questioned slowly, her grin falling intoa frown. "Then we can finally have answers on what truly happened! Hazel we deserve to know!"
"Then we go to where it happened" I retort firmly looking at her in the eyes so she knew I was serious. Aneska stuttered in her step at this in surpriss.
"You're saying..." Aneska trails of her sentence in hesitatuin and I nod to confirm it. "Once we get to my house, wait for Nathan and then we organize it"
We walked home as fast as possible... well more likely ran to my home. Running to the front door, I barged into the household gaining everyone's attention almost instantly.
"Wow! Hazel- oh hey Aneska!" William greeted with raised eyebrows from our entrance.
Turning around. I spot Williams head over the couch in the lounge room and he was obviously painting with Anna when you could hear a faint voice shout; 'Daddy!, don't forget the pink paint!'
"Aye! Sup dude?" Aneska breathed out, trying to get her breath back while walking inside the house like she owned the place.
I swear she new this place better than I did.
"Not much, oh and Hazel." Will caught my attention when I walked into the lounge room, Aneska trailed behind me.
"Yeah?" I question.
"Sarah is going out tonight for her book club group with the mums...So you're either cooking dinner yourself or getting take-away" William explained to me with a pointed look that said it all and I hummed in agreement.
"Where's Ron?" I asked casually, trying to act like it didn't bother me that very time the truck is gone, he is gone.
It is like they are linked or something. I snort at that stupid thought.
As if.
"Oh" William coughed. "He had to go to work, co-workers are playing up again" William claimed and by now Nathan had pulled up and entered the house without knocking.
"Ugh, damn birds!" Nathan growled in frustration, pulling feathers off his leather jacket. In result he placed his bike helmet on the ground.
"What happened to ya'!" Aneska stiffled a laugh, it was obvious a bird had hit him while he was riding to my place.
William laughed at the mess Nathan was in, before turning his attention back to Anna who nearly spilt paint all over the carpet.
After half an hour had passed of bickering and relaxing, by then Ron had returned home looking more irritated than usual. Peeping from upstairs I could hear him mutter under his breath about 'twins' and 'punk ass's'. Obviously something went wrong then.
Sighing I turned back into my room and now listended to what Aneska discussed with Nathan about the Mission City idea.
"One problemo!" Aneska blurted out suddenly while spinning around in my office chair by the desk.
"Hm? What?", Nathan sat up from laying on my bedroom floor and stopped Aneska from spinning in the chair by placing his hand on it. Halting the movement. Aneska pouted at this.
"How are we gonna get there? Nathan only can have one of us on his motorbike" Aneska asked after she stopped pouting at Nathan for ruining her fub.
I sighed in disappointment at that factor, none of us had thought about transportation.
"Hazel...do you have a car?" Nathan asked me curiously.
"No, heck I don't even have my Learners yet!" I claimed scratching the back of my neck, wincing at the thought of being 17 without even an ounce of experience when it comes to driving. "I was stuck in an adoption centre."
"I can drive!" Aneska raised her righr hand in the air with excitement.
Two things I have learned about Aneska lately; Racing and Car obsessions.
"Yeah...but what can we use for transport genius!" Nathan claimed with a 'duh' tone while nudging the female playfully. Earning a groan from Aneska.
"We will-"
"Ron's Truck" was all I said, cutting Aneska off again. Both of their necks pretty much gained whiplash when they snapped their heads to me with horror.
"How? As if your parents would even allow you to, HECK Ron wouldn't even let me in his truck!" Nathan claimed irritated and...It was sadly true.
Ron was picking me and Nathan up the other day, was meant to...he wouldn't let Nathan inside.
Sighing I knew I had to break the rules. "I am sure he won't mind if we borrow it" I tried to play it off, even though my own nerves were hitting high drive.
"If we get caught. It wasn't my idea." Aneska stated seriously making Nathan gape.
"Uhm like hell I am joining this scandal now! He will murder me!" Nathan crossed his arms in defiance and stuck his nose up in the air.

In seconds we found ourselves sneaking out the house around 5:45 pm.
Ron's truck keys clutched tightly in my hands. While I played this scenario out in my head that was taken place.
I had to do this. I had to find out. I need to find out. I want to find out. I...
Throwing the keys to Aneska who swiftly caught them, we hopped into the truck in a matter of seconds. Nathan slowly sliding into the backseat with a kicked puppy look on his face.
"Can't believe I am doing this." Nathan muttered and I snorted at that. Relating the whole way.
"Here goes nothing" I mumble to myself while sitting in the passenger seat and buckling in. Aneska started the truck insatly and drove off swiftly.
I swear I heard something grunt in surprise when she did so and the truck seemed to shudder in protest, but I ignored it.
It's just in my head.
"Mission City here we come!" Aneska cheered, dark blue eyes concentrating on the road.
I swallowed down the lump in my throat at how everything seem to hit at once. That this was reality.
I am going to the place where I emotionally and mentally died years ago.
"Hazel?" Nathan asked quietly, worry seeping in his green eyes when he noticed how I shutted off from them.
"I'm fine."
