With a slight thrill of excitement, Sharon immediately began her investigations. Her first order of business was to pull up Logan's contracts. She had a hard time finding it as there was still a lot of documents to be organised. Having meant to do that in the first place, she decided to kill two birds with one stone and spend the next two days separating the piles of papers and files by the agents and teams. She didn't even have time to indulge in her usual snooping.

It was at the end of the second day that she finally found what she was looking for. Her excitement overriding her exhaustion, she forced herself to ignore the messy piles that surrounded her and immediately poured over the twenty-plus page document. But not before informing Cameron that she was staying late. He tried to convince her to bring the papers back or leave it for tomorrow but she was adamant. She needed to understand the contract as soon as possible if she wanted to help Logan.

Truthfully, she was not sure where the burning desire to help came from. She was not averse to helping anyone but despite being a pushover, she had never believed in inconveniencing herself for the sake of others. Although that worked better in theory than practice since she had often spent more time than she was willing to to "help" other, this was different.

Maybe it was the fact that Logan was being taken advantage of. She couldn't help but draw a parallel between how she was treated with how Logan was treated and the sense of injustice was pushing her forward. Or maybe it was a reaction to his youth. It had not escaped her notice that he looked to Cameron as an elder brother and Cameron was more than willing to help him. So, as an extension, she felt protective over him as well.

But the whys didn't matter. As a result of her unprecedented helpfulness, she was the last person in the office. Again.

Having scouted the place out when she had gone to get more coffee, she was glad to find that the place empty. That meant that she was able to put all her attention on the document. Doing a mini jig on her way back to her "office", she tried her best to understand the legal terms in the document as well as stay awake to get through the dryness of the contract.

"Burning the midnight oil?"

Startled by the sudden voice, Sharon immediately covered the contract with her arms and looked at the doorway. Feeling her eyes widening when she saw that it was Matt, she turned to a file to cover her reaction.

"N-not really. I just wanted to be done with this set of documents,"she responded, hoping her lie was convincing.

"Leave it for tomorrow. I'll be locking the office up in ten minutes,"he said gruffly. Sharon nodded at the file, not daring to look up. She was not used to lying and felt really uncomfortable about it. Especially to a man who had helped her so much. Hoping her eyes weren't showing any of her discomfort, she waited for him to leave. "Stop by my office before you leave. I want to talk to you."

Her heart skipped a beat. This was even worse.

----@@@-----

Her hands clutching the straps of her handbag as she held it in front of her, Sharon made her way to Matt's office. She had not been able to get his words out of her mind since he had left. It had been a torturous three minutes as she briefly shelved some files and neatened the piles of papers on her desk. She had not been subjected to those words many times in her life but the few moments when she had, the outcome had not been in her favour.

So with her mind filling her with all that could or had gone wrong, she took a deep breath and knocked on Matt's door, entering when she heard Matt's voice. She studied his face carefully as she approached his desk. He was sitting back in his chair, his hands tenting on his waist, his eyes on his desk. There was a pensive air about him that made her nervous.

Did he know? she wondered nervously, taking a seat across him.

"Miss Ashwood, Sharon, do you know why you're here?"he finally said after a few minutes of tense silence.

"Um, no, M-Matt- I mean Mr Colton." Her nerves was getting to the best of her and her cheeks flushed when she stumbled over her words. This was the first time she had considered their meetings as purely employer-employee. Cameron had been present the past few times she had met up with him so it had not felt as formal and constricting as it did now.

"Matt is fine, Sharon,"he said, flashing a smile, before he straightened, his arms on the desk, his hands still joined together. His eyes were still intense, making her even more uncomfortable. She resisted the urge to lean back, away from his probing eyes. "The reason you are here, Sharon, is to make sure that Cameron goes to his physical appointments and track his progress. Does that sound familiar?"

"Y-yes. I am aware of that." She had no idea where he was going with this question.

"So why are you not doing your job?"

"I don't understand." Now, she was confused. "Cameron has been going to his appointments. He tells me that he has an appointment everyday. I know that that's a bit much but I'm just glad that he even got a therapist. Don't you know about this? Didn't he inform you?" Her brows drawing together, she realised that what she had said was quite ludicrous. An appointment everyday? Didn't these type of rehabilitation require rest days? She had a feeling that Matt was going to enlighten her and she was going to feel extremely foolish.

"Sharon, I don't know what he has been telling you but I'm afraid he lied. He has been spending time with his teammates, his friends. Although it's good that he's been behaving, he told me that he is putting off finding an physical therapist because he wanted you to be more settled in your position. I had been under the impression that you were the one to impose this rule. But am I right to say that this is not the case?"

Sharon nodded her head. This was even worse than she had expected. Not only had Cameron made her look like a fool, he had also undermined her capabilities and professionalism in front of her boss. The only constants in her life. She might not be the most confident person, not the most beautiful or pretty woman, but her skills and her willingness to work were her only attributes. Without them, she was nothing.

Angry, hurt and betrayed, she almost missed Matt's next words.

"What exactly is going on between you and Cameron?"

"W-what are you talking about?" She was unprepared for this shift in topic. "There's nothing going on between us. Why would you ask that?" The curiosity in his eyes made her shift uncomfortably even as it caused anxiety to rise. Where was this going?

"I find that hard to believe. As much as I like Cameron, he is not the most considerate guy. Especially to women. He's more of wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kinda guy. So the amount of attention he has been paying you is out of the ordinary."

Sharon couldn't help but agree with him. Since being in the office, she had heard stories about him and the type of women he went for. Women who were sought-after by everyone in the world. Women who were beautiful and the perfect counterpart to him. Women who were the direct antithesis of her.

And yet, she also couldn't help but notice how different he was with her. He remembered what she liked. He was adamant in sending and fetching her from work. He had even willing to go grocery shopping with her. She knew it was different but had managed to not think about it until now when Matt was confronting her about it. But she still didn't want to delve too deeply into it so she tried to brush it off.

"You're seeing things. He's just bored,"she said with a laugh. Even without looking at Matt, she knew how unconvincing her laugh was. Playing with the straps of her bag on her lap, she tried to come up with some other excuse. "Plus, you know, Scott. He's still living in the apartment so he feels some obligation to Scott."

"Right. Scott. The apartment. Why is he still living in the apartment? The paps have been laying off him for a while now." She almost hit her head on the table. Why had she brought up this topic? She ignored the amusement in his eyes, knowing he was building up to a point. "Do you think it has anything to do with you?"

"I don't think so." She tried to talk as slowly as possible, drawing each syllable as long as possible. She was trying to come up with a semi-credible excuse but her mind was drawing a blank. The sudden vibration from her bag reminded her of how late it was. "I'm sorry to cut this short, Matt, but it's past my bedtime. I really need to head back for my beauty sleep."

"Of course. Don't let me keep you." She was becoming suspicious of his easy capitulation. He was enjoying the line of query too much to let her go off so easily. But she didn't want to look the gift horse in the mouth. Rising to her feet a bit too fast, she flashed him a brief smile.

"I'll talk to Cameron about the physical therapist and get a confirmation by this week. Have a good night,"she said, still wary about the smile on his face. It was too smug, like he knew something she didn't. "Well, goodbye."

"Good night, Sharon. Let Cam know I'll be calling him tomorrow." She nodded and was about to head out of the office when he continued. "And tell him that the next time he stays parked outside the building for three hour, I'll have to call the cops."

"Three hours?"she asked, turning back towards him. He was at his ceiling-to-floor windows and gestured her to join him. Her curiosity getting the best of her, she joined her and barely managed to stifle her groan when she spotted Cameron's Range Rover right at the entrance. From Matt's office, it was impossible to know who the driver was but who else would be parked at the building? The rest of the street was empty of parked cars. "Please tell me that's some random guy."

"We both who that is, Sharon. And I have a feeling that he is beginning to feel impatient,"Matt commented when they both saw the driver get out of the car, phone held to his ear. Sharon jumped when something vibrated against the glass. Realising it was her phone in her bag that had been pressed against the window, she took it out and closed her eyes.

It was Cameron.
