Part 8

Question: What is one thing you can't live without?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Artemis throughly explained what had happened. She and a few of her huntresses has been captured on Calypso's island of Ogygia. Saffron had gone down to my mother in the underworld to get them back, agreeing to give herself in exchange.
"You and the rest of the workers will be staying here, but different gods each day will come to monitor the household. Today I'll do it. Tomorrow I think Hermes will. He is torn up about his ex-wife getting captured." Artemis said.
"Wasn't he cheating on her?" I asked.
Artemis shook her head. "He was trying to prevent Saffron and the oracle from going to the underworld and she thought he was cheating, since he spent his days with various other goddesses. Hermes knew he couldn't convince Saff that he wasn't cheating without revealing what he was really doing. So, he lied and told her that he was sleeping with Aphrodite. I've never seen Saff so broken in the hundred and fifty years I'd known her. I'm glad I don't have a husband." At the last sentence she tilted her head slightly, as if she were interpreting them differently then I was.
"I see," I said. "What are we to do?"
"Well, the workers' party is still on. You can still go to that. Three days, I think."
"Alright," I said. " in the meantime, just carry out as normal?"
"As mostly normal as you can," Artemis said. "The staff is already troubled enough. Their normal tasks will help them take their minds off of Saffron."
"Very well, Lady Artemis," I said, standing to leave.
"You may call me Artie," she said, cracking a smile.
"And you can call me Soph," I said.
"Soph, Saff cares about you more then I've seen her care about any other servant, other then Jamila, the great granddaughter of her best mortal friend. You're something special, someone special. So, she'll be very happy that you're still living as you had been before she was captured. The other gods are searching for Saff and Calypso, but Ogygia is very hard to find. Odysseus allegedly searched for the island once he was back in Ithaca, but no man ever finds Ogygia twice. It took forever for the gods to locate me and my two huntresses while we were prisoners there. It was one of the divine rules issued for Calypso's punishment. Hopefully, the gods will be able to break that ancient rule and bring Saffron back." Her voice harbored hope, a little too much then I would've liked.
There was a very little chance of finding the forsaken island. Styx was even closer then ever to rising, now that Saffron was trapped and lost.
"Hopefully," I repeated, then left.
Jamila was sitting at her desk again, staring blankly at papers littering the surface. I turned and raced upstairs, fingering my invisible daggers the whole way up.
