The flight to Bangladesh was a straight flight with no stops that lasted over an entire day. Josh never got motion sickness, but after being stuck in a small flying metal box, he was ecstatic when they touched the ground.
Josh laughed in relief while he and Tyler walked to baggage claim. "Thank god. I was about to lose my mind sitting down for a whole day."
"You could've moved around instead of watching the Harry Potter series in one go, you know," Tyler said. He had a laptop bag strapped across his chest and a travel pillow wrapped around his neck. "There was space to walk."
"Says the one who slept the whole time. By the way, how the hell can you sleep twenty four hours?"
Tyler pulled out two of their suitcases at the same time and nearly fell over if Josh hadn't caught him. "I was catching up on some well deserved sleep."
Josh snorted and pulled out his backpack. "Do you have a regular sleeping schedule or do you just rely on all that sugar you eat to keep you going?"
"Mostly the latter." Tyler grabbed the last suitcase and propped it on its wheels. He looked back at Josh and grinned. "Ready to go? I'm starving."
They wheeled their stuff outside, where the heat nearly knocked Josh. He scrunched up his face, a layer of sweat instantly covering his body.
Tyler laughed as Josh shrugged off his two jackets and scarf. "It's monsoon season here."
"It's fucking November," Josh muttered, stuffing the extra clothes in the crook of his arm. "I'm sweating bullets and we haven't even been outside for five minutes."
"You get used to this kind of crazy weather when you travel a lot for work." Tyler slipped on a pair of sunglasses he got from God knows where and waved down a taxi.
They somehow organized their luggage into the trunk with just enough space to close it and then climbed into the backseat.
*PSA: for anyone who's from Bangladesh, sorry I'm butchering your language. I'm using google translate for this*
"কোথায়?" The driver said.
Josh froze, realizing he flew to a foreign country that he didn't know the language of. What did they even speak in Bangladesh? Chinese? Indian? He was fucking clueless.
He looked to Tyler, who replied without a trace of an English accent. "লি মরিডেন ঢাকা হোটেল দয়া করে."
The man began to drive to what Josh hoped was a hotel or else he was screwed.
"You speak... Chinese?"
"Bengali," Tyler corrected. "And yes, I do. I'm fluent in seventeen different languages. Close your mouth, it's really not that surprising."
The drive was about thirty minutes consisting of Tyler and Josh arguing over what their first plan of action should be. They had no police backup because they left without telling Dallon, and they had no idea where Jenna would even be.
"I'm telling you, we start with the kingpin and we work our way up," Tyler insisted.
Josh scoffed. "Or we could just find one of your assassin buddies and get them to help us."
"What assassin buddies? I have no friends."
"Not surprised. Bet you can't even make friends."
Tyler smirked at him. "Yet you're in a different country with me."
Josh rolled his eyes and fell back into his seat. "I am too tired to be dealing with you right now. Do we have to share a suite?"
Tyler crossed his arms and huffed. "It's cheaper."
"Then shut your big mouth before I throttle you," Josh said.
"I'd like to see you try, Dun."
"Don't tempt me, Joseph."
The taxi driver pulled into the front of the hotel. Josh struggled with their bags as Tyler paid the taxi driver and went inside to book the room.
Waiting, Josh scoped the outside of the hotel. No one suspicious stood out to him, except for a black sedan across the street. He assumed it was someone important or worth protection, because the car had bullet proof tinted windows and bodyguards surrounding it.
Tyler returned with the keys to the room and helped Josh pile their luggage into a cart and wheeled it to the elevator.
"We're on the seventh floor," Tyler said. "Double bed. They didn't have any separate suites."
Josh swore under his breath. "That's great. Fucking fantastic."
"I'm not happy about it either, pal, but we can manage with the cards we've been dealt."
"Tell me there's a pullout couch at least," Josh pleaded. He didn't think he could stand being that up close with this maniac or he'd lose his mind.
Tyler shrugged, smiling easily. "Guess we'll find out."
They made their way down the hall to the last room, where there was a small kitchen and king sized bed inside. The balcony had a hot tub and the bathroom had a large porcelain tub and mirror bigger than his body.
Josh whistled, walking in as he made sense of his surroundings. "How did you afford all this?"
"My work pays me well," Tyler answered, dumping the bags on the floor in front of the balcony. He left the cart outside. "Hungry? I could call up some food if you want."
Josh shook his head and sat down on the end of the bed, bouncing slightly. He laughed, earning a strange but amused look from Tyler. Tyler pulled out a stack of different color coded packets and plopped them on top of the desk and sat in the spinning chair, opening the first folder.
"This bed feels like a cloud," Josh sighed, flopping back onto it. He closed his eyes, feeling his body sink into the various cushions and layers of blankets. Josh could feel himself drifting asleep when Tyler called his name out.
"What do you know about Heaven's Templar?"
Tyler was sitting at the desk in one corner, flipping through file after file. Josh sat up and rubbed his eyes. He couldn't see Tyler's face, but could tell by his hunched shoulders that something was bothering him.
"Bits and pieces. Why?" He only got a small hmph in return.
Josh knew more than enough about Heaven's Templar. An old friend of his, Sergeant Urie, was part of a unit who were given the task to take them down. Even though the information was classified, Brendon talked about pretty much anything when he was full of daiquiri. And he was drunk more often than not.
"They're a group based in the U.S. during the 1990's but have since then spread through South America and even into some European countries. They're like a cult. The leaders are legit, though."
"The Way's?" Josh asked.
Tyler shook his head, tossing several files into the ground. Josh moved to pick them up, but Tyler waved him off.
"The Ways didn't control them, but they were in kahoots with Heaven's Templar before going underground. If anyone knows their whereabouts, it's Kiyoko."
Josh nodded as if he knew what Tyler was taking about, even though he was lost before he even started to speak. "Uh-huh. And what exactly do they do? Ship drugs or something?"
"They're notorious for sex trafficking and smuggling in Europe and Asia. They kidnap young men and women here and take them to South America to be sold off. But it wouldn't surprise me if they were smuggling drugs, too."
"Holy shit. That's horrible." Josh leaned over Tyler, pointing to one picture. "I thought they were taken down back in 2014?"
Tyler handed him a sealed file that read classified in bold red letters. "Find out for yourself."
Josh opened the file and skimmed most, only seeing names of soldiers and operators involved in the mission. He didn't stop to take a closer look until he noticed a familiar name.
SERGEANT BRENDON URIE
AGE: 27
STATUS: ACTIVE DUTY
SKILLS: EXPERT HAND TO HAND COMBATANT
CURRENTLY INCAPABLE OF RECEIVING TRANSACTIONS. MUST WARRANT FURTHER INFLUENCE.
Josh thumbed the edge, flinching when the paper split the corner of his index finger. He stuck his finger in his mouth, his eyes catching another name. This time, his stomach dropped to the first floor.
LIEUTENANT JOSHUA DUN
AGE: 22
STATUS: HONORABLE DISCHARGED
SKILLS: SKILLED MARKSMAN
CURRENTLY UNDER SURVEILLANCE. MAY BE USEFUL ASSET WITHIN NEAR FUTURE.
Josh dropped the file, his chest tightening. "Why the hell is my name in these files?"
Tyler looked up, seeing the scattered papers. He furrowed his eyebrows, picking up the papers and examining them. Josh backed up into the bed, falling back. Suddenly, it wasn't as cushioning as he originally thought.
"Interesting. It seems that Heaven's Templar keeps tabs in military personnel that they can use them to help hide their trafficking system."
"But why the ever loving fuck is my name there?" Josh asked, almost pleaded.
He'd gone through enough shit in the past month as it was. He saw someone get murdered in his apartment, he was scouted to be a sketch artist for a sociopathic genius, and now he's in a different country only to discover that a large sex trafficking gang was watching him?
There were bad days, and then there was this.
"I'm- I'm- I'm fucking losing my mind," Josh laughed, burying his face in his hands. "Why me? I just want to have some sense of normalcy."
"I'm a detective who gets high off of powdered sugar. You're an army vet who tried to kill a Russian assassin with a baseball bat. Nothing about either of us is normal, and it's obvious normal isn't what you're looking for," Tyler snorted. He grabbed more papers off the floor and shuffled them.
"Don't analyze me." Josh felt like crying. He let his body fall back onto the bed.
Tyler looked up, probably sensing Josh's growing anxiety. "It's not as bad as it looks," he said, reaching over to try to comfort Josh. He ended up only awkwardly patting his knee before Josh swatted it away.
Josh felt bad, but the creeping sense of dread squashed it easily. Skilled marksman. That's what was written down. He was a sniper for his old unit, before he was discharged. A really good one, too, which is what kept him so long in Afghanistan.
Besides his decent skills with a gun, he wasn't any more special than his commanding officer. Who the hell was he to these people to be seen as an asset?
"It seems that your skills precede your military service," Tyler said, no longer trying to act like a decent human being and reading through Josh's files. His files. "Damn. You were an expert."
Josh covered his eyes with one hand and flipped Tyler off with another. "You're not seeing the dilemma here, are you? They're watching me, they might know I'm in Bangladesh with you, and I got a fucking paper cut. If your reputation is as international as you say, they're going to see something wrong with this picture."
"Don't worry, you were never on their sex trafficker list. It looks like they planned on recruiting you."
"Recruiting me how? By stalking me until I join?" Josh snapped.
Tyler grabbed Josh's arm and pulled him into a sitting position. His expression turned from curious to stern.
"You trusted me enough to fly to a foreign country in order to hunt down these two men. Trust me when I tell you they're not going to take you."
Josh scowled and pulled his hand away, but couldn't help feeling relieved. "I don't trust you enough to gamble with my life. But, thanks."
"No problem," Tyler grinned, tossing him a folder. "Look through these. I need to track someone down."
"You think Heaven's Templar got to Jenna?" Josh asked.
Tyler shrugged, spinning in circles. "It's entirely possible. But if that's the case, that means our window of opportunity to get the jump of them is closing fast. And for all we know, she might be... well, let's just stick with what we do know."
Josh snorted. "Which is nothing."
"Just go through them, sharp shooter."
He opened it and pulled out three files, flipping them with a new wariness. Most of them were women, some kidnapped, some recruited. "You think you'll find Jenna in these?"
"Not Jenna. Hayley Kiyoko."
