PROLOGUE : A Quest Beneath The Waters
- CAMP HALF-BLOOD -
“So does anyone know why Chiron called us to the Big House?” Percy asked, “I think a quest?” Piper responded, yet it also sounded like she was unsure. “Seriously? Another one? Didn't we just finish the war with Gaia?” Frank asked, his voice annoyed. “Frank, that was two years ago.” Annabeth responded confused with Frank's question, “Yeah, for a Demi-god that wasn’t that long ago.” Frank finished and while Percy, Hazel and Piper nodded in agreement. Annabeth pursed her lips and nodded, “Not Going to argue with that.”
“I wonder what we're going to have to do for this quest,” Hazel said changing the dying subject. “Oh- Maybe something with Mermaids or Sirens. I never encountered one of them before, not even on the Argo II.” Leo said he seemed somewhat happy about the subject. “Dear Gods, I hope not.” Percy said, letting out a loud sigh at the thought, “Yeah we’ve fought them before, not fun.” Annabeth spoke up, she herself also remembered the experience. Piper looks at the, not astonished but slightly surprised, “You guys have fought Sirens before?” Annabeth let out a slight chuckle and Percy gave her a knowing look, “Well, not necessarily fought them, but we did the Odysseus thing where Percy tied me to the rafters so I could hear the Siren’s song while Percy had earplugs in.” Now it was Jason’s turn to ask, “And why would you want to hear their song?” Though his question had slight judgment behind it Annabeth continued though she now wore more of a guilty look.
“I heard it could instill great wisdom if one can withstand their call! And I was thirteen at the time, cut me some slack.”
“Yeah, no. I never want to hear one of their songs again.” Jason said, his voice now more low and upset. “Again?” Piper asked, knowing full well that she had never heard this story from Jason before and Percy was quick to join in, “Bro when have you ever heard the Siren Song?” Percy asked, intrigued. “Couple years back when I was with Reyna on a quest, a few of my friends died that day. Safe to say I’m still pissed about it.” Jason explained and while everyone looked intrigued he was not happy. “Huh. Reyna usually tells me and Nico about her quest. Never heard of the one where she encountered the Siren Song.” Hazel said, frowning at the fact she’s never heard such a story from Reyna before. “Yeah, she doesn’t talk about it.” Jason said, rolling his eyes in annoyance and grief at old memories.
“Am I the only one getting the sense that there’s some tension between Grace and the Praetor?” Leo asked with little to no shame to ask what he had seen in front of him. “Wha-” Jason was quickly cut off by Frank’s confirmation and as he was about to speak up to defend himself from accusations, Chiron and Mr. D walked into the room. “Where’s Di Angelo and the Roman chick?” Mr. D asked uncaring to call Reyna by her name. “Nico and Reyna are a part of this quest?” Percy asked, that would mean there were nine of them for one quest. “Yes they are.” Chiron answered and as he did a cold chill entered the room as the shadows started to move, and out of the shadows Nico and Reyna appeared. “Sorry, we’re here.” Nico said and Mr. D raised a brow at him.
“What took you two so long?” Reyna sighed and explained, “Nico was determined to raid my fridge.” and Nico quickly defended himself, “Hey you had homemade Tiramisu in there. I was gonna steal it no matter what.” “Please tell me you brought it with you?” Hazel asks her dark headed brother, “Duh.” And Annabeth was quick to get the focus of the situation. “Okay, on nom-dessert topics. Chiron, what is the quest you're sending us on?” “Yeah and why does it require nine of us?” Percy asks in agreement, before continuing, “Most quests are limited to three.”
“Several campers both Greek and Roman keep disappearing near the waters, the ones that have been found are well…kind of losing their minds.” Chiron explains and everyone's face drops. “Define losing their mind?” Frank spoke worried about the possibilities of this quest. “Campers keep trying to drown themselves and are saying the Sirens are calling them.” Mr. D elaborated. “Sirens?” Reyna asked and she looked slightly on edge but most assumed it was because the earlier story Jason explained. “I just had to ask for a Siren quest?” Leo asks himself as he sighed in disappointment. “We are not sure if it truly is Sirens or the works of some God.” Chiron tried to say in a form of comfort, “I’ma take my bets and say both.” Percy said sarcastically and Nico nodded in agreement.
“So what our quest is to go find some Sirens and kill them or something?” Frank questioned, “A little more complicated than that. But that is the gist of it, yes.” Chiron said, his voice a little uneasy. “We’re going to the specific place where the campers went missing and see if we can find anything, whether it be a God, Siren, or something we don’t even know.” Reyna said, and Chiron nodded in confirmation.
“How do you know what the quest is?” Piper questioned in suspicion against Reyna. “Because I was with Chiron when he made the quest.” Reyna said, glancing at Piper. “Oh great, another quest with you that involves Sirens. This is going to be amazing.” Jason said sarcastically, though he was visibly annoyed. “Oh for Neptune’s sake fucking drop it Jason.” Reyna snapped. “Oh yeah, there is some definite tension between those two,” Leo said once again with no shame. “You’re telling me, might as well cut it with a knife,” Frank stated in agreement.
“I’m not sure what the problems you two are having, but it needs to end right now.” Chiron said, and Reyna and Jason were quick to glare at each other, “I don’t have any problems, Jason’s the one who needs to fucking drop it.” and Jason rolled his eyes. “Okay, yeah. When our friends get raised from the dead, then I’ll drop it.”
