Chapter 64 | Future
One Week Later
I was nervous to go back to the club, but all my boys met us outside, and I felt safe. Yoongi, Joon and Hobi had to go inside quickly, but the rest of the boys held me back for a few minutes.
"What's going on?" I asked, confused.
"Do you trust us?" Jimin suddenly asked.
I furrowed my brow. "Of course I do."
"Then stay calm."
Suddenly, a cloth was placed over my eyes and I jumped. "What – "
"It's okay," Jungkook assured from behind me as he tied the blindfold behind my head. "It will make sense soon."
I could do nothing else but let them lead me into the club. I felt awkward, and assumed people were likely staring at me, but I didn't object. It didn't occur to me that we weren't bumping into anyone until we finally stopped.
"You guys," I said. "Can you tell me what's going on now?"
"Not yet," I heard Jin say from beside me.
"Just trust us, Rae," Tae said from the other side.
I sighed, but did as I was told. I waited somewhat patiently until suddenly, I was being led up a small flight of stairs. There were only three or four, but I stumbled a bit anyway. Jin caught me, however, and I recovered quickly.
A few moments later, I was made to stand still in a specific spot.
"We'll be waiting for you, Rae," Tae said into my ear. "We're so proud of you."
"Wait, what does that mean?" I asked, but there was no reply. "Tae?" I said, turning my head. But it seemed he was gone.
"I don't understand," I muttered, hoping someone could hear me. But I was apparently alone. I stood there, feeling a bit foolish. I had almost decided to remove the blindfold when I felt it being untied by someone else.
I jumped slightly. When the blindfold finally came all the way off, I was standing before bright lights. I squinted quickly and shielded my eyes. "What's happening?"
A hand was placed on my shoulder, and I immediately knew it was Yoongi's. I turned to look back at him right as he joined me at my side. He smiled at me as he raised a microphone to his mouth.
"Guys, this is Mirae. She's my girlfriend, and I have an important question to ask her."
There were cheers from all around me, and I suddenly realized I was standing on the stage in the club. I looked around, still stunned by what was happening.
'Wait.' I froze. 'An important question...'
I looked up into Yoongi's eyes. Was he seriously going to ask me what I thought he was going to? I began shaking slightly. Was this happening for real?
"Mirae," Yoongi said softly. "Will you...play for me tonight?"
I blinked. "Wha – "
He gestured in front of me and my eyes followed his hand. My breath caught in my throat. I was standing in front of his keyboard.
"Y-You want me to play?"
He nodded. "Infinity. I want you to play it for me."
"Yoongles, I – "
"Just say yes."
His eyes were shining, and he had a soft, serene smile on his face. I glanced at the keyboard, and then looked back at him.
"I can't," I said. "Not in front of all of these people."
"You know it like the back of your hand, Nabi. You can do this."
I looked out at the crowd, and to my great relief, I couldn't see many people due to the bright lights. The people I could see, however, stood directly in front of the stage, grinning at me.
My boys. All six of them.
And I felt calm.
I looked back at Yoongi and nodded. "Okay," I said quietly.
The crowd erupted, and I blushed. Yoongi grinned, and I felt weak in the knees.
"Just start playing when I point at you, okay? Just play it like you normally would."
I nodded. I didn't trust myself to speak due to a small lump that had formed in my throat. My heart began racing as music started, but then I looked back out at my boys and I relaxed.
And then Yoongi pointed at me.
I began playing, and my music blended perfectly with the music that had already begun. A couple of moments later, Yoongi began rapping. And I finally realized... He'd written this for me. He incorporated my dad's song into a beautiful new one, and he wanted me to be the first to perform it with him.
Tears began running down my cheeks, but I didn't falter. I played the song with as much passion as I could. And I got lost in the music as everything else around me faded away. Everything except for Yoongi. I watched him in awe, and my heart constricted. I felt so much love for him in that moment, that it overwhelmed me.
When my dad's song ended and Yoongi's music faded, I looked at my boys, tears still streaming down my face. They were all beaming and cheering. I finally looked over at Yoongi and he walked over to me, leaned down, and kissed me softly.
He looked into my eyes for a few long moments.
"Thank you," I whispered. He nodded.
Then he turned back to the crowd, and raised the microphone to his lips again.
"That song was written in memory of a very talented and passionate musician. He had composed the song, Infinity, before he passed, and it was just performed for the first time in public by his daughter. When I was working on new music, I knew I had to use the beautiful song in my own. For him. And for Mirae."
There were more cheers, but Yoongi's voice drowned them out.
"I call it A Shiny Future."
My head snapped to the side to look at Yoongi, and he looked back at me and smiled.
And I couldn't help myself. I reached over and took the microphone from his hand. He looked surprised, but handed it over without question.
The look on his face after my next words reflected the same type of exasperation he'd always shown me before he decided he liked being around me, and I couldn't help but sigh fondly.
"He means A Glossy Future."
"Oh my god!"
