Chapter 7
(T.W:Mention of suicide.)
She wakes up the next morning, feeling stronger than she's ever felt in awhile. She finds another letter under her phone.
Hey Buttercup. No need to rush into work today. Take you time.
I left your favorite cheese croissant for you and a chocolate one, because you deserve it.
She smiles.
Again take your time, no need to rush.
Mr. Logan.
-
She quickly makes her way out the building, hailing a cab because she already missed the bus.
She knew Mr. Logan will be a little mad, but she wanted to be at work still.
When she arrives at work, Mr. Logan was very happy to see that his sunshine was shining again.
"I thought I told you take your time." He folds his arms, playfully glaring at her.
"I missed you Mr. Logan." She tells him, making him laugh.
"I...umm...today is the last day of Overtime." He watches as her smile drops, but she quickly puts it back on. Deciding that she wasn't going to think of him today.
She really didn't want her heart hurting today.
"Okay. Let's end with a bang." He smiles.
"I'll be in the back. We're not expecting a busy morning, just in the afternoon, we have a client from a small business clinic coming in." She nods, walking towards the counter.
-
"But Mr. Logan. I knew you looked really young for your age, but your really that old."
"Hey hey hey. I'm not that old young lady."
"The 1800s is old Mr. Logan. You lived through world changes." She says in awe. He shakes his head laughing. She looked so genuine too.
"Oh!! There she is." They turn to the entrance.
"Hello Shantelle. I didn't see you yesterday but Bossman said you were under the weather." Henry says, coming in and leaning up against the countertop.
Mr. Logan looked irritated by the man's presence but said nothing.
"Why are you hear Henry?"
"We're going out tonight."
"No we are not." He replies folding his arms.
"Yes we are."
"No we are not. I have work to do Henry. I can't leave things over due any longer. Plus this is the last day I'll be overtime. We can go out then."
"Okay that's great, because it's about time this old man finds love again." Mr. Logan rolls his eyes and Shantelle giggles.
"Are you a vampire as well?" The man freezes, looking towards the young woman in shock.
Her eyes widen and she hits her mouth.
"Oh my gosh. I'll get killed won't I, for blurting out the secret. The Volturi nearly killed Bella because she found out." She gasps loudly.
"Do you guys have a Volturi as well? Or like a King or Kings of Vampires." They both chuckle and Mr. Logan looks to Henry.
"You want to tell her?" She gasps in amazement.
"No way! You're the King!?"
"My father actually." He states.
"Lousy old man won't hand over the throne until he dies."
"How old is he?" I asked shocked.
"Old." The two of them say and then laugh.
"I mean I get it. You look about 40 so he's probably really old." He nods.
"Changed when he was 69. Changed the rest of us. Conquered tooth and nail, till he was crowned King of all vampires."
"That's so cool. You're friends with the Prince of all Vampires. Go ahead Mr. Logan." She says and it makes the two men smile.
"Hey I'm a little hurt. I thought we were friends too." He says, putting his hand on his heart, and she blushes.
"Cut it out you. She's too young for you, and already has a mate."
"No I don't." She comments and they both look to her.
"He doesn't want me remember."
"A rejected bond? Are you okay?" He says reaching out to tough her head, but Mr. Logan slaps his hand, before it could touch her.
"Don't try that. And she's fine."
"Just wanted to check is all." She laughs.
--
I had a good day today. She thought to herself as she got ready to leave. The dreading thought of him was peeking out at the back of her mind but she didn't give it any attention.
Gleefully waving Mr. Logan good bye, she makes her journey down the street. She felt her heart beginning to beat faster, as she got closer to the spot. Slowing down her pace.
A small gasp leaves her mouth when she sees a figure leaning against the wall, across from where she would stand and wait. She quickly took out her stranger danger kit, holding the mini stun gun in her hand.
Her heart quickens, as she takes a slow steps back, just as the figure pushes off the wall. She goes to run but freezes when she realizes who it was.
His hands in his pockets, the yellowish light from the street light lighting up him up.
He's really here.
Not sure exactly what to do, she remained in her spot just starting at him in disbelief.
He's really here.
His mind was still unsure, on if he was doing the right thing, but he couldn't fight the desire to be near her anymore. Going to her room that day, only strengthened the bond and he knew that staying away now would only make things worse.
She stares at him, her eyes flashing with so much emotions; Happiness, anger, frustration, longing.
She slowly walks up to him, and he walks to meet her. Their gazes never breaking.
He was a few inches taller than her. The perfect height for her.
She couldn't believe he was here. Actually standing in front of her.
She slowly raises her hand to touch his face. Needing proof that he really was here, and that her mind was not playing tricks on her.
He had on a navy blue suit this time, rather than the black he wore the first time they met.
When her hand touch his cheek, her heart skipped a beat, while he took a breath he didn't need. Grabbing hold of his hand, she was so happy when he did not pull away.
She looks up to him again, tears coming into her eyes.
She takes the stun gun, stunning him.
He groans a bit in surprised more than in pain.
Bernard however was double over laughing.
She stunned him.
Leon could hear the boys laughing, promising himself to deal with him later.
She goes to stun him again, but he grabs her hand.
"Are you going to hide yourself again?" She asks.
She needed to know. He couldn't show up today and then not show up tomorrow.
If he's here that meant he cared.
She tried to ignore it. Ignore him the entire day. But her heart called out to him.
He remained silent and she moved to stun him again. But he held her hand tighter, chuckling.
Bernard stood straighter, sobered up from his laughing. He watched from a far, hoping with all of his dead heart, that his friend would give himself that chance again.
He knew how much it hurt him when his first mate choose death over him. He only hoped he wouldn't judge her off the aftermath of another.
--
Mr. Logan stood outside, watching the two as well. He hoped he would accept her and not cower like he did.
"Hello?" He hears a faintly familiar voice say behind him. If his heart could beat, it would be beating faster than his body could comprehend.
He turned around, his eyes widening in shock when he sees someone he has never forgotten standing in front of him.
She smiles at him.
"Hello Logan."
"Marianne." He whispers in disbelief.
"But your parents said you died. I visited your grave."
"I almost did. But the doctor who was in charged of me was a vampire and he changed me. To my parents and family I died that day but I stayed with him until I was able to fully be on my own."
"How have you been Logan?" She shyly says, pushing her hair behind her ears.
"I'm so sorry." He says ashamed.
"I left you and I-"
"Was scared. Are you still?" She asks surprising him.
"Because I've searched years for you and I would like to finally be with my mate." She closes the distance between them, cupping his face.
"If you'll have me." She smiles.
"Of course I will." He leans down to her, claiming her lips to his. The strings to their bond that was severed, slowly joining back together, and shining it's bright golden light.
Leon listened the reunion of the two older vampires, all while his eyes are still on her.
Elle let's go of his hand, stepping away from him, feeling herself become angry at his overdrawn silence. She felt like whatever was between them, the last string of the rope, was slowly starting to unravel.
Bernard took a step forward, realizing what was happening.
Mr. Logan and his mate watching along as well.
"Please Leon. Don't do this too yourself. She's not her." He says and from the slight turn of Leon's head to his direction he knew he heard him.
It's the first time he has called him, just by his name.
He wanted to be with her, love her, but the past kept repeating in his head.
"Why won't you-Why are you doing this to me? It's not like I planned to meet you? I didn't even know vampires were real!!"
She hits his chest.
"Why do you hurt me so much! What are you so scared of!" She grabs unto his shirt, the erratic beat of her making him worry.
His mind wonders back to that moment. The day he promised to never give love a chance again.
Flashback
(Trigger Warning: Suicide)
"No!!! Never!! My family disowned me because of you blood sucker."
"Kimberly please! I promise you, I'm not going to hurt you. I will love you. Me being a vampire does not stop that. We are not as harmful as you all may think. Please don't do this!" He shouts trying to take the knife from her hand, but she presses it harder, shouting at him not to move back.
He stood by the door, watching as she stood near his desk. He could smell the strong scent of her blood, letting him know she had already broken skin.
She looks to him with a look of pure hatred.
"I would rather die than be bonded to a demon."
He uses his speed to get to her, but she had already slit her throat. He holds unto her body, falling unto the ground.
"Kimberly please." He tries to stop the blood but she had cut too deep. He uses his fangs to cut his hand, going to give her some of his blood, but she pushes his hand away. The wound healing immediately.
"If you-love me..let me die."
He looked down at her in pure disbelief. She begins to cough up blood, and he watched as the life slowly left her eyes.
Left in utmost distress and unbelief. He rests her body down, his hands and clothes covered in her blood.
He walks out his study, Bernard running to him, worried.
"Master."
"See that her body is sent to her family." he says walking pass him in a numb state.
"The protestors are outside the gates Master. We must leave now." Bernard tells him and he stops walking.
Slowly turning to him, Bernard finding no emotion in his eyes.
He glances towards her body. "Let's leave this forsaken country." He says bitterly.
End of Flashback
The time he met his first mate, was around the time humans came to know about vampires. Many were lit on fire in front of many on the street. Stabbed with a stake. It was a horrible time for us vampires.
Kimberly ended up being one of those characters, daughter. She fully supported their cause.
When we met she was in shock, but then she got to know me, acted like she cared and as if she loved me back, but in reality she only wanted to know where I lived and where the other vampires that had taken refuge with me were.
We were able to get away, but she died and my heart was even more dead after that.
"Why do you do this?" She cried, resting her head on my chest.
She wasn't her though.
She wants to be with me.
I raise my hand to touch her face, but she hits it away.
"Don't touch me if all your going to do is hurt me more." She tells him angrily, stepping away.
"I have to go home." She says trying to walk pass him, but he grabs her hand.
"I'm sorry." She freezes, turning to look at him. There was a pained expression on his face and in his voice, which made her heart ache. He seemed to want her as much as she does but was conflicted.
She pulls her hand from his, folding them. Remaining quiet, she gives him chance to explain himself.
"I lost my first mate." Her eyes widen in shock.
"She was human like you...but she unlike you, wanted no part of me." He explains.
"It was around a time when vampires were being hunted down by humans and killed. Her father, was a leader of a sort. She used the bond that we had to make me vulnerable, but I was able to figure it out. Even then, I tried to persuade her to know that I wasn't bad, that we weren't as bad. But she wouldn't see it."
"Her family found out about our bond, and disowned her. Said that they would kill her, because she was bonded to a demon like me. Not like she choose to be my fated mate." He says.
"I didn't want to force it on you Shantelle. Kimberly killed herself in front of me, because she didn't want to be fated to me."
She killed herself?
She stares at him in disbelief. Her anger subsiding a bit.
He had met the one before and she broke the bond in the most painful way for both of them.
But even then, why would he compare her to her.
They're two different people.
Her hand begins to itch and she slaps him across the face. She hisses in pain, realizing it might not have been wise to hit a vampire.
He grabs unto her hand, inspecting it.
"Are you okay?"
"You good looking foolish idiot." He chuckles, looking into her eyes.
"I'm not her."
"I know." He replies, searching her eyes.
"So you'll stop hiding?" She asks again, looking to him with hopeful eyes. The little twitch at the corner of his mouth, makes her want to jump for joy.
"Yes Ma'am." Forgetting the pain in her hand, she throws her arms around him, hugging him tightly.
She pulls away, pulling his head down to her. Kissing his lips.
She gasps, quickly moving back from him.
"I'm sorry- I just- I was just really happy and.." Taking her good hand in his, he pulls her back to him.
"It's quite alright darling." He says and the nickname made her flush red. He holds unto her cheek, stoking it with his thumb.
"It's quite alright." He repeats, leaning down to kiss her again.
She tightly holds unto his shirt.
Each bond between mates have their own unique connection. Like with Mr. Logan and Marianne, a faint gold glow surrounded them. A glow that only those with the keenest of eye sights could see. It showed the power of a bond between two long lost destined mates. And with Leon and Elle, the end of his rope that was once broken, now joined with hers. But because of the hindering of the bond, cause it to slowly unravel. Yet now... it joined itself back together, sealing the unbreakable bond they were destined to have, and the beautiful faint glow shined profoundly.
Mr. Logan and Marianne looked on with smiles on their faces, holding each other tight. The older man felt at peace now for his sunshine.
Bernard silently cheers, fist pumping the air, before fixing himself again. The relieved smile never leaving his face as he watched his friend accept his second chance.
"Finally you coward."
Leon smiles into the kiss, pulling her closer to him.
