Listen
Marco had let Rosie take the day off to get back on her sleep. They had scheduled an ultrasound appointment for that afternoon. Rosie had decided to sleep in until 9:30 which meant she had 4 hours till Marco picked her up when he got back from work. She got ready for the day and then went to look in the mirror. She looked at her growing stomach and saw a little baby bump. It made her heart start to swell. She went back into her room to do her make up. Rosie had guessed she was about 1 month or even more. After she did her make up, she got out a bowl and a box of cereal, after she poured the milk in she went to sit on the couch and watch something on the tv. Her thoughts ended up taking over. She still couldn't believe how well Marco had taken the News. She thought he would've taken it a little harder, but he didn't and she couldn't figure out why that surprised her so much. But then she remembered the last time. They both flipped out that time. Which then made her think about the pregnancy. She had so much fear of losing the baby again, she never thought she would end up trying for another baby, she wouldn't be able to handle another miscarriage. The thought of that made her shiver. What would she do if she lost the baby again? She wanted a baby so badly, but she's scared out of her mind. One tear rolled down her cheek. She jumped at the sound of her phone ringing, which also brought her back from her thoughts. She looked down at her phone and saw that it was Marco which made her smile.
"Hi!" She answered.
"Hey, I was making sure you were awake."
"Oh yeah, I woke up like an hour ago."
"Well, I'll see you later then."
"Wait!"
"Rosie I was really just calling to wake you up, I really have to get back, there's a long line today. I'll see you later. I love you."
"Love you too." She ended the call and went back to the tv.
It was 10:35 the next time she checked the time. She was so anxious to go to her ultrasound appointment, it was like the morning was never going to end. She watched a few more things and then decided to go look at the extra bedroom they had. They had 3 bedrooms, the master beds was theirs, the one at the end of the hallway was the guest bedroom and then they had another one in between their bedroom and the hall bathroom. It was baby pink with a picture of unicorns on the right wall. There was enough room for everything they needed in a nursery. Right now, this was just a room they used for storage. She walked in to look at everything in there. There was a box full of cute paintings. One of the paintings had a rainbow that was smiling. She picked it up and stood it next to the wall. of the colors in the rainbow matched the color of the wall. She searched through the boxes and found some cute stuffed animals. There were a couple of unicorns that she would go perfect in the crib. There was also a bunch of pink fluffy owls, she thought they were some of the cutest things ever. She knew that her mother gave them a bunch of baby clothes when she and niece moved in together. When she turned around, she saw a box labeled Rosie. Inside was a bunch of cute baby clothes. She searched through that box then found a bunch more boxes full of clothes. Just as she was about to open another bin she heard the front door open.
"Rosie?" It was Marco.
"Hey, I'm up here!" She yelled.
She heard him climb up the stairs.
"Hey. Where are you?"
"In the nursery!"
"The nursery?" She heard him mutter to himself.
"What are you doing?" He asked as he got to the door of the room.
She gave him a long smile and then looked down at a cute yellow and pink jumper. "Looking at the room."
"Seems like you're doing more than that." He took the jumper and folded it. She pouted at him.
"We could put the crib right there, and the changing table over there, oh and next to the crib we could put a chair for me," she pointed towards the picture of the rainbow, "and we could put that right over the crib and the chair."
He took her face and gave her a long kiss, then smiled at her. "I have a surprise for you in the car, but we have to go."
"Ok fine."
Marco got up and Rosie grabbed his hand so he could help her up. They walked out of the house and into the car. He opened the passenger door for her and then got in the other side.
"You said you have a surprise for me."
"Yes, yes I do. But I'll have to show you later, because it's in the trunk."
"That's not fair." She pouted at him again. He let out a small laugh and then started the car.
It took about 20 minutes to get to her appointment. Once they got there, Marco pulled into a parking spot closest to the door.
"Ready to go in?" He asked.
"My appointment's in 20 minutes, why do we have to go in right now?"
"Because we probably need to sign some papers." He told her and then went into kiss her.
"Ready?" He asked again.
"Yeah, I guess." Once they got out of the car, Rosie took Marcos hand as they headed inside. They signed in at the front desk and then given a bunch of papers to fill out. They waited about 10 minutes in the waiting room, after filling out the papers, until a nurse came out and called her name.
"Rosie Brennan?"
Rosie and Marco got up and walked over to her. She helped Rosie get settled and then asked her a bunch of questions about the pregnancy and how she's been feeling. She told them the doctor would be in shortly. 5 minutes later a tall lady with red hair knocked on the door and then came in.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Cannon." She said, smiling and then reached her arm out to shake their hands.
"Hi I'm Rosie, and this is my boyfriend Marco." She told her pointing towards him.
"Nice to meet you both. So I hear you're expecting."
Rosie nodded her head and then looked up at Marco, who was holding her hand.
"So before we start the ultrasound, is there anything else you want me to know?"
"Actually, yes. So around 3 years ago I had a miscarriage, and if I'm being honest I'm really scared that I'm going to have another one."
"Well let's take a look and see how far along you are and then we can talk about everything else. She smiled at them.
Rosie picked up her shirt so the doctor could put the gel on her stomach.
"This might be a little cold but you'll get used to it." Rosie let the doctor put the gel on her, and she was right, it was cold. Rosie shivered a little bit and tightened her grip on Marcos hand. The doctor then put the monitor on her stomach and started searching around.
"Right there. Baby Brennan is right in the middle of the screen." The doctor told them. Rosie started to smile and then looked up at Marco who was smiling too. Marco then went down and gave Rosie a kiss on her head.
"Looks Like you're about 3 months." Dr. Cannon broke the silence. Rosies mouth fell open.
"3 months? No, I can't be. Really?" Rosie stared at her for a long second.
"Yep, that's not far too far along though. Most people don't even really find out they're pregnant until their 7th week. You still have a while to go, don't worry."
"Ro? You ok?" Marco asked.
"Umm, I think so."
"Rosie, 3 months really isn't that long. I know you didn't expect to be 3 months along, but we can't really do anything about that." Marco tried to calm her down.
"Yeah, no, I know."
"Are you sure you're ok?" He asked again.
"I'm fine." She answered with an annoyed tone.
Marco then tightened his grip on Rosies hand. She looked straight ahead at the monitor until Dr. Cannon started to talk.
"Well that is good news, because it means you really should be out of the clearing for a miscarriage, and you and baby are both very healthy, and baby is the perfect size for being 9 weeks." She smiled at Rosie and then rubbed her hand to comfort her.
"Are you sure I won't have another miscarriage?"
"Rosie I can't promise that you won't, but there isn't anything wrong with your body that would make it that you do. A lot of people have miscarriages their first time, it's unfortunate, but it could just be your body wasn't ready and the baby didn't conceive properly. You and baby are perfectly healthy and I think you're both going to be fine." This made Rosie a little less scared, but she still didn't know what to expect.
"Now, would you like to listen to the baby's heartbeat?" Dr. Cannon asked.
Rosie shook her head very fiercely. Marco and the doctor both laughed at that. Dr. Cannon put the monitor right in the middle of her stomach and they were able to hear little thumps coming from the Machine. Rosie gasped excitingly and then pulled on Marcos arm. "Marco listen." She squealed.
"I am."
"That is your baby's heartbeat." Dr. Cannon told them, not that they didn't already know.
A few minutes after talking with the doctor and once Rosie got the gel off her stomach they headed back to the car. Rosie checked her phone and saw that it was already 2:00, she hadn't realized how long that took. Once they were at the car Marco placed her right in front of the passenger door. "Wait there." He called as he went to the trunk. Rosie had forgotten all about her little present, so this made her really excited. A minute later Marco came around with large box in his hands. He set it down right in front of her. She examined it a little and then realized it was a car seat. "Oh! Marco you got the baby's first car seat! It's pink. But we don't even know if it's a girl yet." She looked up at him.
"Then we can return it, but I know that you really liked this one and I went to a store and saw that it was a good price and decided that it was a good idea to get it."
"I love it! I just really hope it's a girl. I do think it is." She smiled up at him and then he helped her up from the floor and gave her kiss. After that they headed home, while Rosie gave him a long description of what she imagined the nursery to look like. Once they got home they grabbed the box and headed inside. Rosie kept looking down at the box. It was their baby's first present.
