Chapter 12: The After Party

Warnings: A bit of lime, fluff, no smut ;)

This chapter is super long, so I apologize.

Keefe POV

I'd never done anything more romantic with anyone than I did that night.

The way we talked, like whispers of shadows, it felt like everything was prettier when he was around it. I'd danced with people, sure, but not like the way me and Tam danced. God, that boy was like a drug. I keep coming back to him.

Focus Keefe, stop leading yourself on.

"So, we're all just going to go to Sophie's?" I ask.

Walking outside, it was definitely nighttime. The stars twinkled and winked knowingly at us, the sky was licorice black and the haze of it all was intoxicating.

"Well, I think most of us. Maruca can't come because she's a year below us all, and Wylie doesn't seem to quite give a fuck, so it might just be everyone but them." Biana counted them off with her fingers, "It's just a private kind of party. I think it's a sleepover? I don't know, but it's gonna be fun."

Me and Tam both looked at each other, skeptic of the new idea, but not about to oppose it.

. . . . . . . .

Havenfield looked stunning at night. The way the moon touched the roof and the stars shined brighter for it. The grass in the nightlight was gorgeous. All animals were sound asleep, which sucks because I was totally headed towards Glitterbutt's pasture, only to remember she had been moved (Top Ten Saddest Moments of My Life...and that's saying something).

"We are going to get in so much trouble." Tam mumbled underneath his breath as we headed to the door.

"What, scared of having a little fun?" I teased.

"I'm scared of who I'll be having it with." He whispered, with no emotion whatsoever.

As he's about to ring the doorbell, Biana jumps in front of him, "Slow down, bucko! If we ring the doorbell, they're gonna think we're Grady and Edaline. We need to say the password." Biana then got very close to the keyhole of the door, "SOPHIE IT'S BIANA THE BANANA!"

"GOT IT!" Sophie hollered from the inside of the house. Five short minutes later, she threw upon the door, which almost hit Biana smack in the face, "Heeyy guys!"

I tried to gaze at her as long as I could, to make it clear to everyone that I loved her. "Hey, Foster. How's the party?"

"Good! Come in! We have alcohol! And other stuff! And games!" Sophie was drunk. Or high? I couldn't tell. Whatever she was on, it was making her super hyper and super clumsy. Though she's usually clumsy.

We followed her to the party room, which held everyone, who sat in a circle around an empty glass bottle. I raised my eyebrow at this, and Fitz scooched a little and patted the seat next to him. I sat down obediently, while Tam found a seat next to his sister.

"We were just about to start a new game!" Sophie sat down on the other side of Fitz, "This is a mix of my favorite games, "Spin the Bottle" and "Seven Minutes in Heaven". The rules are that, when it is a person's turn, they will go into that closet over there, but blindfolded. Then, one of us will quietly spin the bottle, and whoever the nose of the glass points to will go into the closet with them. Whatever the two want to do they can, but they only have 7 minutes to do so. So, most likely, you'll be kissing or whatever. It's a fun game." Sophie added quickly, "And if we get siblings we spin again."

"Okay, so do we spin to determine the first person to play?" Fitz asked.

"Yeah sure!" Sophie used her telekinesis to spin the bottle. I thought it was going to crack at the speed it was going, and after a minute of lighting speed circles, it finally landed on...

"Tam, that's you." Sophie announced.

"What?!" Tam's face turned red, "I didn't think-I don't-"

Biana pulled him up as Linh tied a blindfold around his eyes, as he awkwardly stood, and waited for someone to put him out of his misery. I laughed quietly at his annoyance.

"Okay, iNtO tHe cLoSeT yOu gO!" Marella sang as she forcefully pushed Tam into the closet, and then closed the door. "Got em! Now, who's going in there?"

"Keep it quiet, Tam's not supposed to know!" Biana hissed as they sat back down. "Okay, I'll spin for him."

The bottle went around again, my anxiety rising with each full rotation it made (Jesus it's hard to describe how a bottle spins).

Would it be Biana?

Would it be Marella?

Dex?

Sophie?

Fitz?

...Me?

I tried not to think of the possibilities and hoped that for, his sake and mine, he got someone he actually liked. Someone he could talk to. Someone he could lean on. Someone he could kiss in a closet without feeling like a weirdo.

The bottle slowly started to stop, and it pointed at...

Me.

"Oh shit." I whispered. "We should spin again, it's not a good-"

"Nope! In ya go." Marella said.

This time, Fitz and her had to drag me over to the closet, and playfully shoved me inside.

When I looked for Tam, he was right besides me, arms crossed and facing me like he could see through the blindfold.

"Listen, whoever the hell is in here." Tam started, "I don't want to make out with you. Sorry to ruin your fun, but right now I have fallen in love with this guy named Keefe Sencen. And yeah, I know, he's in love with Sophie or whatever, but right now I'm determined to get him to like me. Or maybe even notice me. My long term goal is to get him to fall in love with me, because for some reason, I can't stop being in love with him. And it sucks, and it hurts, so I'm trying to make it stop hurting. I'm not giving up now. So, we can just chill for seven minutes and when they let us out we can pretend we made out or whatever you want to say. But I'm not doing shit."

The words took me a moment to process, but I felt my cheeks glow softly in the dark. The words he said touched me. They hurt me, for being so fucking stupid. But they made me feel like this was meant to be, in some weird way.

"Tam." I said quietly, my words barely coming out of my mouth.

"What." Tam seemed irritated. He didn't know...

"It's me." I whispered.

"Oh. Oh shit." Tam seemed distressed. "That basically throws all my plans into the mud."

I laughed, and then thought about it. I'd spent so much time chasing a make believe girl off the ends of the make believe world, I didn't stop to take a breath and look around.

I whispered, "I mean, Tam, we're soulmates."

"So you're admitting it?" Tam asked, his voice lowered. He pulled off his blindfold, as if to see if this was another elaborate prank. But there were no more pranks. No more hiding. No more telling myself who I was. I was out in the open with nowhere to run but to him.

"Yes." I gulped, stepping closer to him, which pushed him against the closet wall, "Tam Dai Song, you are the one for me. The matchmakers declared it. And if they say we're meant to be, then we are."

"Fuck." Tam's voice was clogged, "Does that mean we're going to kiss?"

I laughed a bit more, "That's up to you." I leaned in close to his ear, my lips almost touching, and added in a teasing tone, "I'd prefer if we put this game to use, if that's alright with you."

"Please."

I assumed that meant yes, so I moved myself to align with his face, and slowly, we moved to meet each other in a kiss.

Our lips touching sent shivers down Tam's spine, and made me kiss him deeper. I pushed him against the wall, gripping him harsher than necessary, the emotions of the last week or so piling up and pressuring into this kiss. I asked for permission and he let me slither my tongue into his mouth, exploring the vast caverns of Tam. It felt so personal, so deserved. It felt so right. He dug his black-painted fingernails into my hair, trying as hard as he could not to make any noise. I have to be honest, it was pretty hot.

The more heated the kiss got, the harder it was to control myself. I knew we probably didn't have long and I wanted to make the most of the Tam, but I also didn't want to scare him. We pulled apart a moment as my lips made a trail down his cheek and to his neck, trying not to make a mark or anything that would show the next day.

"Keefe, I'm not delicate." Tam said between my kisses. "I don't care if it shows."

He whispered, even gentler, "I'm yours, anyways."

Those words hit my in the heart, and made me realize, fuck this shit, I can do whatever the hell I want! (I might've been a little mental at the time, but that's fine). I bit down on his collarbone, not hard enough to draw blood, but hard enough to make a mark. Tam, trying to control himself, let out a whine.

"You like that?" I teased.

"Fuck you." He murmured.

"7 MINUTES!!!" We jumped off each other, compulsively, and Sophie flung open the door. "How was it?!?!"

Tam turned noticeably red, "It was-"

"Great." I said for Tam, grabbing his hand. "Can't wait to spend more time in the closet with him."

"Keefe, oh my god." Tam blushed so hard as he hid his face behind his other hand.

"Well, good to know, because we all want to get back to our game!?" Marella said, annoyed, "You were in there for 13 minutes."

"That's impossible." Tam shook his head.

"We didn't even take off our clothes!" I said.

"Keefe!" Tam snapped.

"Sorry!"

"You guys are so weird." Dex shook his head and we continued with the game. Of course, me and Tam watched, because like HELL was I gonna let him just slip away again.
