Chapter 21

A few months had passed since Derek had secured Daniel in the asylum. Emily and Derek were getting on together very well. They had gotten close to each other and had started to open up about themselves to each other.

One evening, Derek came back home from his office to find Emily missing. He had tried calling her several times on the way but no answer came. He was getting anxious as each minute passed by.

He tried calling her driver but he said he had dropped Emily at a bar. Derek feared Emily going out alone.
"Stay where you are and try to look around for Ms. Brooke," Derek said as he hung up the call. "Yes, sir." The driver, Harold replied. Harold looked around for Emily inside the bar. There was nobody like her. He asked the bartender if he had seen Emily going with anyone as he gave her description to him.

"There was a man, she went with her". Said the bartender as Harold searched for a picture of Derek and showed him.

"No this is not that man." The bartender replied as he continued mixing drinks. Harold sensed something wrong so he called Derek. Derek picked up the phone instantly.

"What's the news, Harold?" Asked Derek.
"Sir, the bartender said he saw her going with a man. Sir, I think something is wrong. " Answered Harold.

"Reach the manager and get him to talk to me right now. I need to know who that man is. Harold, I need you to send me the CCTV footage as soon as possible."Derek said as he paced around his living room barking orders at Harold.

Harold got hold of the manager of the bar and got him to talk to Derek.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Stevenson. How may I be of any help today?" The manager, Lucas said in a faint Greek accent. Derek knew Lucas. Lucas was an old acquaintance.

"Lucas, I need CCTV footage for the past hour of all the entry and exit points of the bar. It's important. My girlfriend is missing. She may be in danger. I want you to help me in finding her." Derek explained to Lucas.

"Oh...sure, Mr. Stevenson. I will give the footages to your man." Lucas said as he disconnected the call and instructed the security to search for a possible match to Emily.

Derek waited patiently but he couldn't help the anxiety that was building up inside him. Why was it taking so much lately? He thought to himself.

"Sir, I've just sent you the CCTV footage. We have a clue. The man is none other than Daniel Williams." Harold said on the other side.

"You stay there I'm coming, "Derek replied as he drove off to meet Harold at the bar.

Derek saw the footage and he was sure by the looks of the footage that Emily went with him by her own free will. He may have threatened her but it didn't look like it. And he was angry at Emily for going with him.

Derek called the asylum and asked to speak with the in charge. "Mr. Stevenson, I..."The matron started but was cut off in the middle by Derek.

"Save it, Mr. Jones. Where is Daniel Williams? How did he escape the tight security and your so-called vigilante staff?" Derek shot at him without listening to him.

"His pills are found under his bed and in the vase. He never took the pills even though the nurse made sure he put them in his mouth. He is worse than before. We've been looking for him. But we haven't found a trace of him yet." Mr. Jones stated.

"Just because of your incompetence, someone's life may be in danger," Derek said as he was being driven towards Willy's warehouse.

"Sir?" Willy asked surprised as Derek barged in his office.
"Do whatever you want. Find Emily by sundown tonight. Here's everything you need." Derek said as he threw the flash drive in front of Willy.

Willy put all his boys to work. They tracked the last location of Emily's whereabouts through the last location of her mobile phone signals. It was near the outskirts of the city. It was an old winding path that led to a clearance in the woods where sat an old wooden cabin. The cabin looked like it had been hit with a truck several times and it would fall any moment.

Derek and the men spread quietly in the woods. They had to make sure Emily was safe first after that they would take care of the problem child, Daniel Williams.

The men entered the cabin with Derek as the lead. The moment he saw Emily gagged and tied to a chair, he felt a tearing sensation in his heart. Her face was again ruined. Her beautiful face was tear streaked and her eyes were red from all the crying. She had a busted lip and faint blue bruises across her cheek.

Emily cried tears of joy the moment Derek freed her hands and threw the gag away. She hugged him so tight as if holding on for dear life. It felt so good to have Emily back in his arms. The men turned their backs to them so that they could have a private moment. Derek held Emily and kissed her forehead.

"Shhhh..... don't cry. You're safe. I'm here now. I'll take you away with me." He said as he held her to him. Sometimes just a simple hug is needed to fix everything.

"Let's take you home. " He said as he held her and walked her out of the shabby cabin. Each minute was a life risk while you stayed in it. They opened the door to reveal a very pissed off Daniel standing there.

"What are you doing with my girl?" Asked Daniel as he lunged at Derek to free her from his grip. Derek motioned his men to move and grab Daniel. Before Daniel could be grabbed he attacked Derek with a knife. He turned sideways so that he couldn't hurt Emily. The knife cut the flesh on his upper arm and was bleeding profusely. The men grabbed Daniel and took him out with them.

"Oh my God! Derek! You're bleeding!" Emily gasped as she felt something wet on her hand.

"It's just a cut. I'll have it patched up. Don't worry about me. "He said as they walked towards their car. Emily couldn't remove her eyes from his bleeding arm.

"Did he hurt you, Emily? Did he touch you inappropriately? Tell me the truth." Derek asked as they sat in the car. Emily asked Harold if he had something to stop blood oozing out of Derek's arm. He handed her a bottle of clinical alcohol and a clean rag.

"Ma'am, put pressure on the wound and don't let too much blood ooze. We'll reach the hospital in thirty minutes at the most." Harold said as he drove at a faster speed than Derek ever allowed them.
