Patton pov
I ended up going home. Well, I snuck into my bedroom window. I needed to put my backpack away. I slipped open the window and crept inside, making sure not to make a sound, which was more difficult with all of my injuries' constant reminders that they were there. I quickly took off my backpack and grabbed my satchel. It was leather and had a heart clasp with glasses. I adjust my cardigan so it is hanging from my shoulders instead of from my waist. Turns out, it's frowned upon at school to be a superhero. I grab things I may need on this adventure. The list included; a flashlight, first aid kit, water bottle, phone, salt, a pencil, and a notepad. Last second, I grab my pocket knife and place it next to the bag of salt. And yes, I do have all of these items lying around my room. Doesn't everybody?
Slipping back out of my window, I wince in pain as a specific spot on my forearm is bumped. Dang it, why do I have to be so weak? Why can't I be more like Roman? He plays on the football team and isn't afraid to get any bruises. Even if he does get them, he just laughs them off and acts like they're not even there! Or maybe like Virgil, who acts tough as nails, but really just needs love. He protects his friends and is very caring, on the inside of course. He would never let others see that, the silly little goober he is. All of my friends are so amazing, I don't know how I got so lucky. I have no idea why they would be my friend, but I'm willing to love them through all of their flaws and good qualities. They are the most important people in my life and I never want to see them upset.
I blink back in surprise. I'm at the Davis house already? Wow, I was really lost in thought. I scold myself and look at the time. Four o'clock. School got out at three thirty. I have thirty minutes to wait. I look up at the house. It's an older styled house. Dark wooden planks that have faded away with time were tangled with long vines and weeds. The house was strangely beautiful, in a haunting way. The cobblestone path was also overtaken with weeds and the tall rusted fence around the property added to the haunting aesthetic. The house was three stories tall and had huge windows in the front. In the attic, the third story, there was a single circular window. Wait… what was that? I look closer. Did the curtains just move? Maybe there is a breeze in the house… but… I thought… no. It's probably just a trick of the light or something. No way I could have actually seen eyes. After all, eyes aren't yellow. It must have been the glare of the sun reflecting off the window. I look at the clock again. Five minutes have passed. Sighing, I decide to go check out the property. It’s private, but the owners keep it as a haunted house and dress it up for Halloween. People are allowed in there that day, so what's the difference if I go in now? It would be better than going home even if I am caught. There is a big keep out sign, but that could have been left from last year's Halloween party, so I ignore it.
I got a notification on my phone. It's from the guys!
Sir Sing-alot👑🎶: I'm sorry guys, I'm gonna have to cancel. My mom needs help with some work around the house, and I may be grounded…
Hot Topic😈💜: What did you do Princy?
Sir Sing-alot👑🎶: Nothing! I just… I may have gotten in an argument with Remus and we ended up having this huge epic battle…
Hot Topic😈💜: Whatever. I was also about to text saying that I can't do it either. I have chemistry homework.
Logic📘👔: It is quite alright. I also had forgotten about a previous engagement that I need to attend to at once. Maybe we can reschedule for a more ideal date.
Pupper Pal💙😸: Okay! I'll see you guys tomorrow!
Sighing, I put my phone away. I guess I'm alone for this one. Maybe I can learn all I can about the house then fill them in on the details. They won't mind… right? I hope not. I just… I dread the idea of going home. My parents would think I've lied to them. I mean, I know I did, but they don't, and I hope to keep it that way. I had already texted them letting them know I'd be gone until six. With one last glance at my phone, I slowly inch my way onto the property.
The gates were already unlocked and it was easy to slip in. They did make this loud squeaking noise so I didn't open them that much. Good thing I'm skinny. It comes with not eating a lot. I slip through the bars and slowly walk up the cobblestone path. I make sure the coast is clear before knocking on the large, ominous, spruce wood doors. I wait. I might as well check to see if anyone is home before I intrude. No answer came. I knocked again and waited. After knocking the third time, I finally boosted up my confidence enough to creak open the door.
I released this chapter early because today is Remus's birthday. Happy birthday trash goblin!
