Chapter 4
Possibility
Back at the peaceful and secured place at the Butterfly Estate, stuff being thrown and scattered around the hard wooden floor can be visibly heard from a former pillar's room. It was a hot and sunny day after a few days of their loved one officially isolated from their embrace. Not like its not a good thing, in fact they badly misses him right now.
Kanao and the others, were looking through Shinobu's old room to look for her journal. To possibly find a cure to turn a demon back into human. Just like what she did on Nezuko with the aid of the demons: Tamayo and Yushiro.
Though, there's quite a misconception throughout the process. Tamayo was missing as well as Yushiro. Shinobu was nowhere to be found. Who could possibly create this cure? They knew there's no one could do it with their little knowledge at pharmaceutical procedures, at this case, a "turn a demon back into human" medicine.
But their determination didn't stop at that possibility. They knew that it was really difficult to comprehend. Nonetheless, they barely knew how they work and how they were created. Needless to say, it would be troublesome if they ever experiment something simultaneously.
Letting out an annoyed and exhausted grunt, Inosuke gave up from intense scattering of old and ancient books. Zenitsu just ignored the boar head and continued to look for the book. Kanao didn't stop flipping through the pages of random notebooks. Nezuko helped as well by rearranging the already checked books.
"Seriously, what book is it?! I'm already tired!" Said Inosuke while wiping the sweat dripping on his forehead. He took off his mask since his head was recovering from his previous mission.
"Can you shut with your rants and keep searching? You're clearly ain't helping a lot. You need to be patient in order to find it." Said Zenitsu. He became calm and serious after knowing the news of Tanjirou a few days ago. As well as he wanted to comfort Nezuko by not being a nuisance to her. He is really trying hard.
Nezuko didn't say anything. As usual, her eyes are puffy from silent crying. She became depressed and would always scream internally. Her condition went unnoticed by everyone, her puffy eyes is an exception.
Kanao didn't bother replying nor shutting everyone up. She wanted to focus on one thing and that is to find the journal or a useful book. She was sweating badly but she didn't care nor bothered by it. She's always calm and tried to move on from the last visit.
Inosuke however, didn't change. It's because, he knew to himself that Tanjirou wouldn't give up on them. But in reality, he misses Tanjirou and his kindness. He actually wanted to go with Tanjirou even if he was a demon, just like what Tanjirou did while carrying the demon Nezuko on his back years ago.
Every night since then, Inosuke would feel the presence of a demon at the infirmary. Even if he's sleeping, his instincts would alarm him that there's a demon nearby. But he couldn't detect a killing intent that's why he couldn't wake up and just continue to sleep carelessly.
Knowing that everyone is trying hard to locate the journal, Inosuke hesitated and became silent afterwards as he continued to look for it until the end of the day.
Afternoon came when he shouted and laughed happily which everyone felt the urge to look at the beast pillar. They were annoyed but was exchanged with shock and happiness. Between Inosuke's hands, there was a purple colored book. "Shinobu Kochou" as what it was written on its front cover.
The book was filled with dust and webs. But it's still identical as a journal since it has the owner's name written on it. But why would Shinobu write her own name to its cover? It's a bit unusual since most journals have a blank cover on its front. Shinobu must've meant something about it.
Inosuke being a gentleman, gave the book to Kanao as she gladly took it. They went closer as she opened the book and looked at its contents. They were amused to see that most of the pages contained recipes, medicines, herbs, and other healing categories. Most of them was poison recipes as what Shinobu does to apply to her sword.
They looked further until the last pages. There written in different handwriting, a recipe about turning a demon back into human. It seemed like it was Tamayo's handwriting since it was different and ancient. Besides, only Tamayo knows how to turn a demon back into human, just like what she did to Nezuko.
The pages contained almost the details about the demons who've blood close to Muzan and other contents. They were left bewildered. They're ain't no doctor to understand this. How could they possibly make a cure without a single knowledge about this? Now they really need a help.
Zenitsu heard faint footsteps from afar. Someone is visiting the infirmary. Though, he needs to be aware of this person's presence. Although its daytime, what would he do when something goes wrong? Of course he wanted to be useful than he used to be.
Tanjirou used to be the person who can easily guard everyone because of how powerful and skillful he has become. Now that he's gone, Zenitsu wanted to replace Tanjirou's place as a guardian. Not that Inosuke wanted it, but he just agreed since he found it boring to protect everyone everyday without any challenge at all.
Everyone guessed Zenitsu's sudden reaction as they proceeded to the front gate to meet the unknown visitor. They didn't realized that he was already standing in the roof of the infirmary.
His Tengu mask reflected along with the ray of sunshine towards their eyes. His cloud and water like kimono waved with the wind as well as the cloud colored hair. It's unusual for the guest to visit in the infirmary. Besides, no one, except for Nezuko, knew about him. But knowing his presence, he must be a former demon hunter.
Seeing Sakonji Urokodaki again, Nezuko's eyes shined in beam. It was Urokodaki who helped his brother and herself from being executed by the demon hunter pillars a few years ago. It was a blessing to meet Urokodaki and it was an honor to be protected by the former water pillar.
The others looked at the old man with shock and curiosity. Their mind was filled with questions but none of them asked anyway. Urokodaki jumped down the roof towards the space in front of Nezuko. Seeing her being a human again felt like a miracle. He and Tomioka Giyuu used to disbelief the fact that a demon cannot turn back into a human, but Nezuko proved them wrong and all thanks for Tanjirou who didn't gave up on fulfilling that promise.
He patted Nezuko's head like what he used to do when he's alone with Nezuko while the little girl was asleep. It was a great and peaceful moment he had in his memory. He smiled behind his mask and turned to the current generation's pillars. Leaving the satisfied and happy Nezuko on his side while his hand still headpatting the girl.
"Sorry for the sudden visit, I came to see the flower pillar, Tsuyuri Kanao for an important matter. May I talk to her?" Said Urokodaki. Kanao nodded as they all went inside the estate.
Inosuke and Zenitsu sat at the corner of the floor, trying to figure out what the writings say from the journal as Nezuko was sleeping on her room for she was tired. Kanao and Urokodaki were having a chat about the topic that he was going to elaborate.
"I know about what happened to my student. I know I couldn't forgive him for what he had done. Every demon hunters knew the consequences of becoming a demon instead of sacrificing oneself for the sake of others. But there's something which anyone other than myself knew about and I came to share it with you. Tanjirou's fiancee, Tsuyuri Kanao." Urokodaki said.
Kanao remained silent and gestured the old man to proceed for his information.
"I am the former water pillar, Sakonji Urokodaki. Tomioka Giyuu and Kamado Tanjirou's master in training. The news of Kamado Tanjirou becoming a demon became a huge issue towards the demon slayers. He was a former pillar and was far known as the strongest demon hunter in this generation. I couldn't determine how proud I was when hearing the information even though he couldn't master water breathing like me and Giyuu. I was saddened by the fact but it made me happy, since he was able to unleash the original breath style via inherited memory from his ancestor. That's what he told me."
"Now, regarding with his relationship with thee and by his demonification, it was sudden and incomplete. He must've thought twice when having a conversation with Kibutsuji Muzan, though we couldn't identify the exact reason why the monster prioritized Tanjirou. The monstrous latter might be updated by news of the corps and it's rather irrational."
"I have few predictions on what happened during their conversation. Tanjirou was a loving and caring boy I've met and he truly cares about everyone rather than himself. His decision making is truly low and couldn't decide without a second thought. There might be a possibility that it also happened during that time. Kibutsuji is a smart demon, he could make threats at any time. Especially when things turn out alternatively without expecting it."
"Sorry for interrupting but I was there, I just didn't remember what happened while I was unconscious. But I clearly remembered him saying "If you ever hear this, don't worry about me. I'll be in good condition. Just protect everyone for me until I get back home.". I couldn't hear it completely but I know he might be compelled by him, right?" Kanao was hopeful about her small memory. She wasn't entirely sure about the other details, but small information could do, hopefully.
"About that, it was a sign that he did it on purpose. That's why I couldn't hate him for that. It's the second time I had high hopes for a demon. There's always a valid reason why he made his decision. I heard that your previous mission was held in a big village which means thousands of people was living there. You're all have been knocked out by the demon whom Kibutsuji purposely fought against you."
"It could be mean one thing. Tanjirou was compelled and threatened to be a demon, to create another generation of demons. Since he knew that Tanjirou was known as the strongest, he came to target the boy wanted to keep him conscious. Now that he had taken him, slowly the demons will multiply from now on. Soon later, Tanjirou will be demented and might forget all of his past. Unlike Nezuko, Tanjirou received massive amount of blood from him according to Murata for the feeling that he gives off a vibe close to Muzan. It's a pain to hear about this but at least we get to know few information about it. I hope you'll understand, lady Kanao." Urokodaki ended.
Basically, Urokodaki's intention was to give Kanao information about what happened to Tanjirou. But how did he knew about all of these details? To be specific, only Kanao and Tanjirou was sent to the mission. Urokodaki was a former pillar, it must be the reason. Although, there was exact reason how the old pillar got the information.
But knowing that possibility, made her upset once again. Now she knew minor details about her fiancee's departure and about his transformation, it might lead her to a clue to how exactly how she'll find him once again. There could only be a reason why the boy made his decision. For now, she didn't know the reason yet, but soon she will.
Looking back to the former pillar before her, she bowed at him with gratitude.
"Thank you, Urokodaki-san. We'll try our very best to locate him and bring him back to us. Thank you for the visit." Thanking the old man respectfully.
Urokodaki bowed as well in response and looked over the two young pillars in the corner looking seriously at the book they're holding.
"What are they looking at?" He asked politely.
Kanao looked at her comrades in the same direction the man faced and looked back at him once again.
"It was master's old journal. Where she mostly writes down her pharmaceutical remedies, including the cure to turn a demon back into human. Right now, we're trying to understand the writing of that demon doctor, Tamayo, wrote to the pages. We still couldn't determine what the cure is all about even if it is literal." She elucidated.
Urokodaki seemed to have flashbacks as he was blacked out for a few moments. This was left unnoticed by Kanao when she blacked out as well by her flooding thoughts and questions. Both were now in an awkward silence but was interrupted when something ripped from the corner.
"What are you doing, dumbass?!!" Inosuke yelled after Zenitsu peeled off a page from the journal and ran towards the two.
"I don't know much about this but this is like a secret recipe, right? It says here that you must gather blood from demons who are closely related to Muzan. In other words, demons who have a massive amount of Muzan's blood will be enough for further examination for the making of the cure, right?" Zenitsu said whilst shoving the page on their front.
Kanao and Urokodaki was speechless but could guess that Zenitsu was right. It truly means that Zenitsu has a normal education and had intellect within writings. However, the way he guessed the cure was unsurprising since it was already stated in the page the steps on how to create the cure. But the writing was difficult and somehow Zenitsu managed to form them correctly and quickly. He truly changed.
"I predicted so, but I couldn't hold the confirmation. For how I was being passed to cure the demon Nezuko back into being a human, was just the time the demon hunters were teleported to Muzan's infinite fortress. However that process underwent circumstances where it barely effected her. But somehow, the young lady turned back into human with an unidentified cure." Urokodaki said at Zenitsu and looked back at Kanao.
"If I'm not wrong, this pillar, Kochou Shinobu, might knew about this cure. For the process was being written onto her journal. So it means that the woman knows how to make this cure from what Tamayo demonstrated and wrote. Since I heard there's no exact proof if the pillar was gone, then she must be alive somewhere in Japan. If someone can find her then it would be a great advantage." He said and stood up.
Zenitsu and Kanao was quiet and speechless of how this old man can determine things so quickly. He had just heard few details yet he could elaborate it further even without any research whatsoever.
Urokodaki walked silently towards the hallway and faced the room of site he'd been a second ago. Inosuke fell asleep in the corner for he had bored hearing the hymn of the old man's voice. Urokodaki faced both Kanao and Zenitsu as they were confused at his sudden action.
"I'm going to check on Nezuko for a short time, then I'll depart. As I said earlier, I came here to share information, so I will be visiting here temporarily. But if you got sometime, please try to find the pillar who owns the journal. You would understand things from her own voice. I'll be leaving now, Tsuyuri and Agatsuma." Urokodaki said and left the room.
Now they knew few details it would be risky to take part for it. Since demons wasn't that plenty for now and partially weak, it would be a task for lower ranks, if they do their job properly and professionally. Kanao's only mission is to locate Shinobu if possible. It would be troublesome to let Zenitsu and Inosuke along for this search.
Then it is settled. I must find master by myself. Keeping quiet is best I could do for now.
Keeping her head low down facing the hard wooden floor. Breathing calmly to prevent any suspicions. Zenitsu just fell asleep as well and was snoring loudly. The room was filled with loud snoring by the two tired pillars lying unconsciously on the cold floor. Though it was morning, the heat of the sun didn't quite reached the window of the room so it's always dark in the area resulting for a cold environment.
Kanao carried her comrades back to their respective rooms and laid them down on their beds. Going back to her own room she keeps thinking about the same thing.
I have to find master, for she's the only one who could make the cure. But how can I find her?
Can I really find her?
