Chapter Two

Runa, Hiccup and Jack walked up the stairs to a Great Hall.

Hiccup swallowed nervously. Jack looked at him and gently squeezed his hand.

Runa looked at them and said in a reassuring tone, "my mom is really nice. Stern but nice. And I'm pretty sure she would love to meet you guys."

Hiccup's shoulders slowly relaxed and he smiled as he nodded. He nuzzled Jack's shoulder.

"Runa!"

The two nearly jumped and looked to see a forty year old woman walking over. She had light brown skin, black hair and light blue eyes.

"Hi, Momma," Runa said with a happy smile. "Don't you 'hi momma' me, young lady. You know I hate when you run off without telling me."

She looked at Hiccup and Jack and blinked in surprise. "You must be Hiccup Haddock and Jackson Overland."

Hiccup nodded nervously, "y-yes ma'am."

The woman chuckled softly, "no need for formalities, young one. My name is Freya Havaror. I'm the chieftess of Fenris. And I'm Runa's mother."

"It's nice to meet you," Jack said with a smile. "Likewise," she smiled softly, "let me know if you need anything."

She rubbed Runa's head and walked back to the Great Hall. Hiccup smiled and he looked at Jack who was smirking.

"What're you smirking about?" He asked with a huff. "And you were worried for nothing," his boyfriend replied.

Runa giggled as Hiccup blushed more. Jack kissed Hiccup's cheek.

"Let's go see what your friends are doing at the training area," Runa chuckled before she and the boys and their dragons went to the training area.

"So what kind of dragons do you have in here?" Hiccup asked curiously.

"Two Grimrippers, one Deathgripper and one Adderhorn," Volker said. Scorchwing walked over to the corner and settled down on his front.

Snotlout walked over to the Grimrippers' stables and squinted his eyes. One of the Grimrippers snarled at him. "Ha! You don't scare me," Snotlout huffed with a smirk.

The Grimripper roared at him, sending him flying back with a yell of surprise.

"Ey! Be nice," Volker huffed, "we've got guests." "Did you name them?" Fishlegs asked, raising an eyebrow.

"The Grimrippers?" Runa said, "I did. They're both males so I decided to name them Obsidianfang and Voidreaper. Obsidianfang has red eyes and Voidreaper has blue eyes."

"Kinda sounds accurate," Tuffnut said. Heather raised an eyebrow.

Hiccup walked over to the Deathgripper's stables.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Volker said, crossing his arms, "he's hostile. We haven't trained him considering there have been a few casualties and the only time he isn't trying to kill somebody is when Runa gives him his food."

Hiccup knelt down and the Deathgripper growled at him. He hissed at the Berkian viking.

"Hey, hey," Hiccup said, "it's okay." Toothless walked up beside his rider and narrowed his eyes.

The Deathgripper growled softly and shuffled back into the corner.

"Where's the Adderhorn?" Heather asked curiously. "She's in the kennel to the left," Volker said, "she's pretty docile for a dragon in the Sharp Class."

"What's her name?" Astrid asked curiously. "Willowtail," Runa piped up. The door opened and the Adderhorn, Willowtail, stepped out of her stables. Astrid noticed that her wing was clipped and there was a healed up scar on her left hind leg.

"She got separated from the rest of her pack and she got caught in one of those Dragon Hunters' traps," Volker huffed.

Fishlegs, Heather and Hiccup looked at him, shocked. "There's... still Dragon Hunter activity going on...?" Heather asked.

Runa looked at her, "yes. It's been going on for a while now. You guys didn't know?"

"Well... no," Hiccup said, "it's been relatively quiet since their leader died."

Volker's eyebrow twitched.

"Well they've got a new leader," he said, "but from what I've heard, he's never there with them. Just his commanders, Draco Helvig and Gunnar Lykke. They're usually the ones in charge of the whole operation. Unfortunately."

"You spy on them?" Jack frowned. "Yes," Volker replied, crossing his arms. Jack narrowed his eyes but before he could say anything, a soft grunt escaped him and he looked at Willowtail who was carefully nuzzling him. She looked up at him and gave a soft growl.

Jack chuckled and rubbed her head. Eclipse sniffed at her and Willowtail sniffed her back before she chirped and waddled over to Runa.

"Maybe you can help us find out who their leader is," Hiccup said. Astrid gave him a sharp look. Volker raised an eyebrow and Runa hummed softly.

Jack took Hiccup's hand and the Berkian viking looked at him. The Overland boy was frowning, eyes showing suspicion. Hiccup knew that look. He didn't trust them.

Correction: he didn't trust Volker.

Hiccup gently squeezed his hand and fully turned to his boyfriend. He caressed his face, "trust me."

Jack frowned before a small huff escaped him and he gently nudged his forehead to his own. "I always do."

Hiccup smiled softly, eyes showing love and thanks. The two looked at Runa.

"How can we help?" She asked curiously, tilting her head. Eclipse copied her, her tail wagging.

"Volker will have to continue being a spy," Hiccup said, "that way, we can try and find more information about their leader."

"And what about the dragons they plan on capturing?" Fishlegs asked. "We'll try and beat them to it," Astrid spoke up, placing her hands on her hips, "we always do."

"Astrid's right," Jack said, "but we also need to try and be careful about this."

"He's right about that," Heather piped up, "those Dragon Hunters are certainly... more bold."

"She's got a point," Fishlegs said. Volker hummed quietly and he looked at Runa, "you sure this is a good idea?"

"I'd rather do this than see dragons captured, killed or enslaved, Volker," she replied sternly. Volker blinked in surprise and he glanced at Hiccup then back at his friend.

She certainly reminded him of Hiccup and it almost scared him sometimes. But he knew he would have to trust his friend's judgment.
