Chapter 3
I swung the door open.
I grinned awkwardly as everyone there stared at me. For some reason my face felt really hot all of a sudden. The people were mostly tourists, along with an odd looking guy with his top front teeth protruding his lips while wearing shorts and a green shirt with a question mark on it. He looked to be in his early twenties. A voice inside me suddenly said "Question Mark" but I shrugged it off. I froze for a moment until I regained my senses and walked in. I must've looked super weird standing there. My suit ripped, torn and dirty, my hair messy and dirty, and stray strands of hair drooping down face. Along with my eyepatch that I new people would be wondering about.
After a moment people went back to their own business, to my relief. I walked awkwardly up to the odd looking guy that was still oddly looking a me and saw a badge on him with the words 'Soos, Mister Mystery'. I guess Soos is his name. Hm. I think I've heard this name somewhere before..
"Um, h-hello?" I said nervously rubbing the back of my neck. It came out as more of a question rather than a greeting.
"Oh hi dude. Welcome to da Mystery Shack!" He answered quite friendly and gestured to the entire place.
"Um, th-thanks. Um, uh. I, um, uh, w-was kind of just, wondering if um, you might be able to tell me wh-where a hotel or something is?" I stuttered, the heat levels in my cheeks getting noticeably warmer. I felt beads of sweat rolling down my face. I don't usually like asking for help and this was a very awkward situation. He gave me an uncertain look but shrugged it off.
"Uh yes. Why? Are you new in town or something dude?" He asked happily.
"Um, kind of. I just, um, I don't really have anywhere to s-stay." I answered, not actually lying. I regretted it immediately though when his expression changed lightning fast to sad and worried.
"Really? How come? Are you ok dude?" He asked worriedly. Uh oh.
"I just, uh, I just, um.." I tried to think of a good lie. A felt a mischievous grin start to form, but I suppressed it and made my expression change to a sad and lost one. "I just, um, I was k-kind of camping with m-my f-family when we were attacked.. And w-well.. My p-parents." I stopped and covered my face in my hands and made quiet sobbing noises, making sure to not actually cry. Since a blood tear wouldn't do well for being undercover.
I peeked through my fingers as the man's face became even sadder and he rushed me through the employees only door and sat me down on a worn yellow couch before going out and closing the Mystery a Shack. When everyone had left he came back and sat down with me on the couch. I had stopped fake-crying and pulled my hands to my sides. I faked to wipe away a tear and looked down at my feet.
"I-I'm sorry. I j-just." I began in a sweet and sad voice but he pushed his finger to my lips and stopped me.
"It's ok dude. It's ok."
