Where Do You Think You're Going, Little Man?
It was a week since Barbara revealed to her father her tall exterior and that she could walk again and decided to go back on the field, this time as Batwoman. Bruce and the others were happy to know that Barbara was back on the field and welcomed Batwoman whenever she took patrol. Robin's job hosting Toon Time was great as always, and his romantic relationship with Barbara was enjoyable.
By the end of the week, Bruce was able to find out WHO the Red Hood vigilante was. It was Jason Todd, much to the shock of Bruce and the rest of the Bat Family! It turned out that Jason had been resurrected with the Lazarus Pit and the body that Bruce had buried in the gravesite next to his parents was actually a mannequin dummy. Even Kevin knew that the corpse was a fake since most human corpses that have been buried in a coffin decompose into a skeleton by a year, and Bruce and Alfred had never checked to see if Jason had been embalmed after he had died. It was quite clear that Jason's corpse was swapped with the dummy before he was buried. Now the Bat Family was torn about what to do with Jason, especially since he wanted revenge against Joker. But deep down, they knew that Jason had to be brought in by the book, even if they had to possibly unmask themselves to testify against him.
It was another night in Gotham, and Barbara was out on patrol as Batwoman. She stopped a few muggers here and there, and they were certainly intimidated by her 10 foot frame. Seeing a 10 foot woman intimate someone would make any criminal think twice about their endeavors. Barbara was on the rooftop when nearby, she spotted a familiar car. It was a 1980 Blue Roadrunner Plymouth. She remembered this because Kevin told her father and she listened. "Oh my gosh, it's Kevin's stolen car!" Batwoman thought, "then that must mean Jason isn't too far behind!" She leapt from the rooftop and landed at the street where the car was. She used her communicator and said, "Batwoman to Batman, I have found Kevin's Roadrunner. I repeat, I have found Kevin's Roadrunner. Red Hood is probably not far behind. Sending you the coordinates to my location now." As Barbara informed Bruce of her location, she could hear gunshots ablaze. And right in front of her, the Red Hood was shooting at various gangsters. Babs was gonna have fun with this.
"Going somewhere, Jason? Or do you prefer Red Hood?" Batwoman asked, smirking. Red Hood turned around and saw the 10 foot female vigilante. "Babs? Holy shit, you're walking..." Red Hood said in observance, "and you're... Big..." Batwoman nodded and said, "damn right. Sorry to cut the reunion short Jason. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to take you in and make sure you give my friend his car back." Jason was unsure what to do. So he decided to make a run for it, running away from Batwoman. With her long legs, Barbara was able to catch up to Jason by the time he ran 6 feet, and caught him by the hood of his red sweater. She lifted him into the air, making him look at her eye to eye, four feet off the ground. "Where do you think you're going, little man?" Batwoman teased. Jason grunted, hating that he was being defeated and humiliated like this. He then pulled out his gun, but Barbara said, "uh, uh, uh, I don't think so!" She grabbed Jason's gun and then crushed it with her free hand as if it was tin foil. Jason was almost frightened to see Barbara's newfound strength. It made him think twice about shooting her. "Want to try that again, or do you want to know how that gun felt?" Batwoman teased, smirking at Jason. "You're not gonna let me live this down are you?" Jason asked, hanging his head down in defeat.
"Nope!" Batwoman laughed, "Now you're gonna stay put and wait for Bruce, or else I'm going to sit on you." Jason crossed his arms and pouted like a child. 30 minutes later, the Batmobile drove in, parking. Batman and his son Kevin then got out of the Batmobile. "We came as soon as we could." Batman said, "I wanted to make sure Kevin would be there to see his car unharmed." Batwoman let Jason down on the ground, and had her large hand on the back of Jason's neck, calmly warning, "don't even try to escape." Jason looked at Kevin and asked, "hold up, Batman's your dad?" He looked at Batman and asked, "you screwed a lady without a condom? Friggin' aye, Bruce! I know being a womanizing Playboy is part of the schtick, but how many more women have you knocked up? Do you even have protection in your utility belt?" Kevin wandered over to his car, and sighed with relief when he found the car didn't sustain any external damage. "Thanks Barbara, I don't think I wouldn't have been reunited with my car if you hadn't caught Jason," said a grateful Kevin. "Shit, I didn't even know I was stealing your son's car when I was using it as a getaway vehicle," admitted Jason. "Keys." Batwoman ordered. Jason grunted in reluctance and then got Kevin's car keys out of his pocket. Kevin then snatched the keys from Jason's hands, giving him a look that said, "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed." Batman had the same look. "I contacted your father while we drove," informed Batman, "He should be on his way in a few minutes. That gives us enough time to have a talk with you, Jason."
"I got nothin' to say to you." Jason stubbornly said. Batwoman leaned down and asked with a hint of mischievous malice, "what about to me?" Jason didn't want to get squashed or sat on, and there was a look of fright inside his mask. "Jason, when you were brought back to life, why didn't you reach out to us?" Batman calmly asked. Kevin could tell that Bruce was asking this not as Batman, but as his father. "We could have helped you heal better just as we helped Barbara," reasoned Batman. "If you really cared about me, why didn't you kill Joker? Because if you had been the one to die, I would have gone to the ends of the earth to find that worthless pile of death worshiping evil and killed him!" Jason snapped. "And what would that accomplish?" Barbara asked. "Jason, you've done terrible things," said Bruce, "from another point of view, I understand your justification."
"Believe me," chimed Kevin, "My mom knows exactly what that's like, to suffer the cruelty of criminals and the desire for revenge. But even if you get to that goal of killing the people responsible for your misery, it'll leave you empty and numb. Take it from a guy who has had to comfort his mother whenever she's had bad days remembering what she did, constantly sobbing, with me having to tell her that it's okay. Trust me Jason, killing Joker wouldn't accomplish anything." Jason rolled his eyes and grumbled, "I just threw up a little in my mouth. You are such a sentimental dumbass." Kevin decided to not dignify Jason's insult with a response. Batman looked at Jason and said, "Jason, you have an opportunity to make up for these wrongdoings. Stand trial, serve prison time. Maybe you can be rehabilitated. Enough blood has been spilled." Barbara was concerned about this. What if Jason decided to let every criminal know who they were?
Jason sighed reluctantly. He was in a no-win situation. "Fine, I guess it's game over for me anyway," said Jason as he shook his head in defeat. He looked up at Barbara and said, "and don't worry Babs, I'm not going to snitch to every criminal and officer about your secret identities. But it's not because I've got a sentimental soft spot for you all. I just don't care." Barbara's father came in, and once Batwoman handed Jason over to Jim, the Commissioner cuffed Jason, reading him his rights. As the backseat of the police car was being opened up, Kevin said, "Jason, wait! Look, no matter what, you will always be my father's foster son, which makes you my brother in a way. If you ever want to talk, I'm here for you." Jason rolled his eyes at Kevin and said, "don't bet on it, pretty boy. I don't do sentiment."
2 months later, Jason was put on trial for his crimes as the Red Hood. The only Bat Family member who really testified was Kevin, telling the prosecutor how Jason stole his car and used it as a getaway vehicle, and Robin also testified as a witness. Strange, since Robin had never met Jason. Based on a unanimous decision, Jason was found guilty on the counts of various murders and for grand theft auto. For his crimes, Jason was sentenced 10 years for the car theft, and life without parole for the murders. It was a couple hours since Jason was transferred to Blackgate, when he was then given a visitor. And who was this woman? It was a black middle aged woman in a military outfit. This was Amanda Waller. Jason sat in the chair with a table, facing Waller. "Hello Mr Todd." Amanda said in an authoritative and matter of fact voice, "I'm Amanda Waller. I work for the government."
"I know who you are and what you do." Jason said, scoffing. Amanda looked Jason in the eye and asked, "What if I told you I knew who Batman and Superman were?" Jason looked at her with indifference. "I must admit, your methods have a lot of gray in them," continued Amanda, "I think we can both agree that Batman's method of dealing with criminals is mediocre. He punches and kicks, and puts mentally ill criminals into an asylum that's pretty much a revolving door for these scum. Your method of approach is to the point, if a criminal steals, rapes, or kills, you make sure they never do it again. You're pretty much willing to do what Batman is too weak to do. How would you like to join my task force? If you join Task Force X, you'll get to do what you're best at and serve your country. What do you say? Interested? Your first mission is to kill The Joker." Jason had already faced death before, the idea of joining this "Suicide Squad" didn't faze him. Getting to kill criminals and do a little good on the side? Jason smirked and said, "ah what the hell, what do I got to lose? When can I start?"
