Zhan's pov:~

"Uncle!" George and the crown prince ran towards me as I kneeled on the ground, breathing heavily, feeling dizzy and all bloody.

I was gravely injured, those wolves tore off my flesh and I had bite marks all over my body. I felt like I was dying.

Or maybe I was dying, but I cannot die, not yet, I need to get these two to the camp, I slowly tried to get up but failed.

Blood seeped through my wounds, my body was giving up, it was trembling, I felt so weak, even keeping my eyes open was hard, breathing was painful too.

But I still got up on my shaky legs, "come on we need to move." I spoke and while I spoke blood came from my mouth, but I wiped it and walked with the two children, who were crying while looking at me.

I tried to smile at them, tried to reassure them that I was okay but they knew that I was not doing well, and I couldn't fool them for longer.

I walked and walked before my body gave up and I collapsed on the ground, "Teacher!"

"Uncle!" the two kids cried, while I tried my hardest to get up, but I couldn't, I just couldn't, I was in too much pain.

Thankfully, I heard the sound of footsteps and saw some people coming in our direction, I felt relieved when I saw Haoxuan, and once I saw him I finally passed out.

The next time I opened my eyes, I was on a bed, in my brother's house, I looked around and saw him sitting beside me, "brother?" I called out his name.

Cheng looked at me and quickly came beside me, "Zhan... you are awake, let me call Ziyi."

He got up and went to call Ziyi, soon Ziyi and Haoxuan walked into the room.

"How are George and the crown prince?"

"They are fine." my brother spoke, "they were not injured."

I smiled, "then it's good."

"What good?!" Ziyi cried, "look at yourself! You are so badly injured, your wounds are infected, your fever won't go down, Zhan you have been in bed for five days! This is not good!"

I looked at her and then at my brother who looked devastated and then at Haoxuan whose eyes were red. Maybe my time had finally come. I smiled.

"Why are you smiling?!" my brother spoke, "Zhan..."

"Brother." I spoke, "I am really tired now, I want to rest."

His eyes were filled with tears, while Ziyi started crying and Haoxuan's eyes turned red.

"I am sorry for making you so worried." I spoke.

"Shut up." he said as he sat beside me and hugged me.

Over the next few days I was in and out of consciousness, my body didn't heal and I was bedridden, I got weaker and weaker.

My brother stayed by my side, George and Inara as well as the crown prince came and stayed by my side too.

Many people came to see me, including Adam, "how are you?" he asked.

"How do I look Adam?"

Adam sighed, "Zhan... I never said this to you but thank you. Because of you the curse was gone, because of you I don't have to worry about my daughter, because of you we, the Wang family, finally got our lives back.

Thank you for taking care of my brother back then. Zhan, you are truly amazing, I truly admire you. I am sorry that it took me so long to say that."

I smiled at him, "it's okay. How is your daughter?"

"Vera is doing amazing, she takes after my brother so much, she is hardworking, a genius, talented just like Yibo."

"That's good to know."

Adam smiled, before he left.

"You look like shit." Roland spoke.

"Thanks Roland." I spoke as I was lying on my bed.

"General." The emperor spoke, "no. Zhan." he gently smiled as he sat beside me, "thank you, for saving my life years ago, then saving my son's life, for helping me rebuild this nation.

Zhan you are my friend, I consider you my closest friend, my ally, my family. Zhan you have done a lot for everyone, it would be selfish of me to ask anything more of you, but I wish we had more time.

You have never taken rest, never taken a day off, you never thought about yourself, I think it's time for you to rest, General."

I smiled, "thank you, your majesty. I am sorry that I can no longer help you."

"It's okay." He smiled, "you have done enough. We'll leave now."

Roland looked at me and smiled, not a smirk, not a condescending smile but a genuine smile, "it was an honour to fight beside you, you are a man that I admire, Zhan. I respect you a lot. I... I will miss you."

I nodded at him and he patted my shoulder before he left.

In the end my brother gently patted my head, "brother."

"Hm."

"I am so sleepy."

"Go to sleep then, Zhan. Good night."

"Hm."

The next time when I woke up, I felt someone caressing my head, I opened my eyes and saw a face in front of me.

The same face that had haunted me for years, the face that I missed, the smile that I loved.

"Yibo." I spoke.

He smiled at me and spoke, in his gentle deep voice that gave me goosebumps, "hello, darling."

I smiled, "Yibo."

Yibo stood beside my bed and raised his hand towards me, I gently raised my hand and grabbed his hand, "ready to go?" he asked.

I grabbed his hand and got up, before I hugged him, "I missed you."

"I missed you too." he said, I broke the hug and tears slipped from my eyes, "Yibo, is it really you?"

Yibo smiled, "yes darling it's me. I came to get you." he gently wiped my tears before he kissed my forehead, my nose and then my cheeks and finally my lips.

"Should we go?" he asked.

I smiled and held his hand tighter, "yes."

Yibo held my hand back and together we started to walk. I followed Yibo towards the light, however before stepping into the light, I glanced back and saw my body lying on the bed, looking peaceful. I gave it one last look before I looked back at Yibo and followed him into the light.

Authors note: I know, I know, you all must be cursing me a lot, but, this is really what I wanted for the story, I know you guys wanted a happy ending, and all, and even I had thought about giving it a alternate ending which would be a happy one, but my mind was always leaning towards the sad ending. 

Anyways I hope you enjoyed this one, but don't worry the next story will have a guaranteed happy ending and it will be published soon!

However I wanted to ask that would you guys want a prequel for this story, the prequel will tell how these two met in the academy and fell in love, their adventures together and their confessions, and the prequel will of course have a happy ending.
