A/N: sequel to [44] Mute

Jungkook and Jimin are very happy in their relationship.

Jungkook still had no idea about Jimin's state and decides to ask the boy. He was curious on whether the condition was reversible. He definitely wanted to hear Jimin's voice - he imagined it as sweet, matching the boy's looks and personality

Jimin's face darkened when Jungkook asked him about it

I'm not mute by birth if that's what you wanted to know. I don't want to talk about this. I just don't want to. I hope you will never bring up this topic again - Jimin signs before getting up and walking away from his husband

Jungkook was definitely hurt - doesn't he trust me to share one of the most serious incidents to occur in his life

But he knew Jimin would open up when he was comfortable.

Jungkook was a quick learner but that doesn't mean he mastered the sign language completely - he would get lost if you were to gesture very fast

Jungkook had just gotten home from work and he saw Taehyung, Jimin's best friend on the balcony with Jimin

"Did you tell Jungkook about your voice yet?" Taehyung asks concerned

Jungkook didn't mean to eavesdrop but he could clearly see them from the living room and yes, he wanted to know about his husband

Jimin's face changed and Jungkook was upset seeing Jimin upset. He could see that Jimin was clearly angry as he started gesturing very fast. Taehyung got angry too - he also gestured back fast. Jungkook understood nothing.

Taehyung turns to leave when he spotted Jungkook

"Hey... I was just leaving .."

Jungkook was only focused on the boy who looked back at him with tears

Taehyung sighs as he left the two alone

"Baby... you okay?" Jungkook asks drawing closer to Jimin but the boy just sobbed which broke Jungkook's heart. Jimin was someone who couldn't handle a fight - Jungkook knew Jimin was hurt for hurting his best friend

Jungkook tried to console the boy but Jimin wouldn't calm down - Taehyung's words made him upset

You can't continue keeping Jungkook in the dark - Taehyung gestures - he really loves and cares for you. If he didn't himself ask, I wouldn't insist so much in telling him... please... you need him as much as he needs you .. I miss your beautiful voice Jiminah

Why don't you understand that I can't tell him?! The very thought of the incident and surgery is haunting me. I can't do it Tae. I thought you knew that. Why is everyone wanting to know about this?! I can't speak! End of story! Why can't people accept that?!

Jimin couldn't stop sobbing and Jungkook kept patting his back saying soothing words till the boy fell asleep in his arms

Jimin got sick the next day, he was having nightmares and Jungkook witnessed it all. Jungkook took leave and stayed to take care of the boy but he couldn't bring a smile back to the boy's face and so he decides to talk to Taehyung about this. It's been 2 days and Jungkook couldn't take it anymore. Seeing Jimin emotionless, hurt

He didn't want to ask anyone except from Jimin but seeing the boy upset, Jungkook had to know what happened- atleast a tiny part of it

Taehyung was reluctant as it was not his story to tell and he didn't want Jimin to be upset with him more. Jungkook tears up

"Please... I just want him to be happy again... I don't want to know the whole story... I don't care... I just want his smile back... please.. he won't eat anything and just stares into blank space...please you gotta help me..."

Taehyung sighs before he tells the man the story.

Jimin was going home from work one day a little later than usual when he sees a guy grab a kid, his neighbor's son, threatening the kid with a knife. Jimin immediately rushes over - he was just 2 minutes away from his home. Jimin didn't anticipate the man to be crazy - the man was the kid's biological father who just got released from the detention center. Jimin tried to help but instead the man choked him and slit his throat, thankfully not too deep.

Jimin had to undergo many painful surgeries and the last one led him into a coma due to complications, for 4 days. He was stuck in his own nightmare. He could feel and hear everything but not move. When he got out of the coma, the events of the trauma and painful surgeries kept haunting him and he screamed before he could heal completely and it damaged his vocal cords permanently

Jimin had given up hope. Taehyung had found a doctor who could help regain his voice back but Jimin was scared now. He accepted who he was and didn't want to go through any more painful surgeries, only for it to backfire. He wouldn't be able to take it

Jungkook sobbed hearing the story before he head back home to Jimin

He entered the room to see Jimin back facing him on the bed. He slips under the blanket, wraps his arm around Jimin's waist and pulls the boy closer to him

"I'm so proud of you..." Jungkook's voice cracks as he tries to be brave "...so proud of my brave tiny hubby..." and then Jimin sobs. He understood Jungkook came to know about his story

Jungkook's tears wet Jimin's back as he held the boy closer

"...I don't want to be selfish but I really want to hear your voice...." Jimin has already calmed down now. He intently listens to his husband's voice

"You told me that nothing can fix it and that you tried everything.... that's why I never pushed it again but now if there is a chance....." Jungkook sighs before turning Jimin over to face him. He smiles slightly as he wipes the boy's falling tears "... I am a bad husband wanting to cause more pain to his husband but I want to hear you..." Jungkook's eyes fill up "...please ....I want our kids to hear their appa's voice.." Jungkook chokes up".... I'm with you baby. I'm with you this time.. ..it doesn't matter the outcome..but let's atleast try...."

Jimin searches the man's eyes - eyes filled with nothing but love and hope for him

Jimin nods

It was a long process - lot of doctor's appointments and counseling before the surgery went successfully

Since Jungkook was there all along supporting and calming him down, Jimin didn't have any intense nightmares that made him scream and lose his voice again

The doctor advised to take speech rehabilitation classes as it could be painful and difficult to talk again after years

2 months went by

Jimin took the classes. Jungkook eagerly waited for the day Jimin would talk but the boy was shy and found it hard to talk again. Jungkook understood and gave the boy time. The doctor had told him, Jimin was improving

Jimin did talk at times with his husband - a yes, no, okay and it always came out like a whisper and with a scratchy edge to the tone

2 more months later

Jungkook was wiping the dishes when Jimin comes and hugs him from behind

Jungkook is surprised because Jimin never really back hugs him, it's always he who does that to Jimin

"Baby, is everything okay ...?" Jungkook asks as he stops wiping the plate

Jungkook felt Jimin nod

Jungkook smiles as he reaches out to place the plate he just wiped onto the kitchen shelf

"You are going to be a father"

The plate drops from Jungkook's hand. Thankfully being plastic, it didn't break

"I'm pregnant" Jimin dares to speak out loud again only to be answered with a deafening silence

"J-Jungkook?" Jimin pulls away from the hug to turn the man around

A tear rolled down Jungkook's eyes as the man looks at the tiny boy

"What happened? Aren't you happy?" Jimin asks concerned as he reaches out to wipe the tear, only for more to drop

Jungkook sobbed as he hugged the boy and Jimin smiled slightly as he returned the hug

"I don't know what I'm supposed to react to..." Jungkook sniffles as he pulls back from the hug to study Jimin's face "....to the wonderful angelic voice I just heard or the news of our baby" Jungkook says caressing Jimin's belly

"How about both?" Jimin smiles, making Jungkook nod his head as tears still managed to escape on matter how hard he tried. Jungkook reached out to peck Jimin's hands resting on his cheek

"I love you..." Jimin's eyes glistened

Jungkook sobbed "I love you too...oh God I will never get tired listening to you... thank you... thank you for both these wonderful news"

Jimin smiles "...thank you for being with me through everything... I love you"

Jungkook smiles, eyes glistening, leaning down to pull his tiny hubby into a sweet kiss "I love you too"
