Seasons

Springtime past no longer dawns
on crocus
willows sporting catkins
birds returning love songs crooning
mewling newborn calf
the frolicking of fawns

and the summer sun has waned
done the daily dally dance
of chatting lawn to lawn
done the thrumming tattoo
of the tin roof in the rain
the thunderstorming tympani
the greening of the grain

the autumn moon has risen
gone the bloom of wild flowers
gone the blues and whites
now are red and yellow
the hues of green'ry dying
great and golden orb sees over
storing of the bounty

against the barren season
of pallid winter light
of silent snow
of cold clear night
of aurora dancing
hearth and heart the lovers' shelter
from the northwind storms until
the morn a new spring over crocus dawns
