Chapter: Restrain
The car suddenly felt too small. The rain outside pounded like a drum, but inside, every drop of water seemed to heighten the heat pooling between them. Gauri's wet red dress clung to her curves, hair plastered to her neck and shoulders, and every inch of her skin felt electrified under his gaze.
Omkara slid in beside her, careful not to crowd, yet the proximity was suffocating in the most delicious way. His soaked black shirt clung to his sculpted chest and arms, tie loosened, every movement radiating raw, restrained power. He clenched his hand on the steering wheel for a heartbeat, a wolf struggling to control the storm inside.
"Gauri..." His voice was low, almost feral, carrying every unspoken longing, every day he had spent without her. "Two thousand, one hundred ninety days... without you. Without the half of me that's yours."
Her chest tightened. Her pulse raced. "...I don't know," she whispered, voice trembling. The words were as much a surrender as a defense. She couldn't stop the tremble in her hands, the heat crawling up her spine, the magnetic pull that drew her closer to him despite herself.
Omkara's gaze softened, yet there was a fire burning beneath it, primal, unyielding. "You don't have to know. You just... have to let me in. Emotionally. Just a crack in the wall, Gauri. Let me be here—let me be part of this life with you, with Rikara. Don't push me away anymore."
The car seemed to shrink around them, every movement charged, every breath heavy with unspoken tension. She could feel the wolf in him, the raw need restrained, and her own pulse answered in kind. Their bond mate, magnetic, undeniable was thrumming between them, making it impossible to think clearly.
"I... I want to," she admitted, barely above a whisper, "but it's so hard. After everything..."
"I know," he said, voice low and gentle, yet firm, steadying her. "I'll take it slowly. Every day. I'm not leaving, Gauri. I won't go anywhere, not unless you tell me to. But I need you to stop resisting emotionally. Let me in... just a little."
Her hands trembled in her lap, clinging to the fabric of her dress. She wanted to push away, to regain control, yet every inch of her body screamed toward him. The scent of rain and him wet hair, damp skin, the raw masculinity in his presence—was almost unbearable.
Omkara leaned slightly closer, careful to respect her space but close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating off him. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. You don't have to say yes yet. Just... stop saying no, Gauri. Let me stay in the spaces you've been holding shut for so long."
Her breath caught. The heat pooling low, the magnetic pull of their mate bond—it was overwhelming. "...I... I don't know," she whispered again, voice breaking.
"That's enough," he murmured, voice rough with emotion and desire. "You don't have to know. I'll stay, Gauri. Every day. Rain or shine, storm or calm... I'll stay. But you can't close your heart from me anymore. Not now. Not ever again."
The car seemed to hold its breath with them. Rain lashed against the windows, but inside, the storm was theirs alone feral, restrained, molten. Gauri felt it all: desire, fear, love, trust, longing. Her hands curled in her lap, her body leaning just a fraction toward him, and for the first time in years, she allowed herself to feel the pull she had tried to deny.
Omkara's eyes softened as he drank in her soaked red dress, the damp strands of hair clinging to her skin, her trembling hands. He didn't touch yet the tension radiating between them said everything. He was here to stay. And slowly, carefully, he would prove she could trust him again, emotionally, fully, finally.
Omkara's gaze held hers, dark and unwavering, like he could see every hidden corner of her heart. The small space of the car felt alive, every inch charged with the storm they carried inside. Rain hammered against the roof, but it was nothing compared to the heat pooling between them.
"You're trembling," he murmured, voice low, velvet-rough. "Not from the rain." His eyes flicked to her hands curled in her lap, then back to her face, as if reading her soul. "It's me. Always me, isn't it?"
Gauri swallowed hard, forcing herself to look away, but her body betrayed her. Her chest heaved, and a shiver ran through her, part cold, part something far more primal. The wet red fabric clung to her curves, and every movement of his soaked, muscular frame made it impossible not to feel the pull—the wolf inside him resonating with her own.
"Omkara I—" she started, voice trembling, then cut off. Words were useless. How could she explain 2,190 days of longing, of hurt, of absence?
"You don't have to know yet," he said softly, leaning just enough that the warmth from his body brushed the edge of hers without touching. "Just feel me. Let me stay here... in your world, Gauri. Let me share this life with you, even a little."
Her pulse hammered painfully. The mate bond throbbed between them, a silent, insistent rhythm that made her knees weak. She wanted to push back, to reclaim control but her body, her instincts, screamed for him.
"I... I want to," she whispered, barely audible, voice breaking. "But it's... so hard. After everything."
"I know," he said, voice rough with suppressed hunger and longing. "And I'll wait. Every day. I'm not leaving. Not now, not ever again."
He reached slowly, carefully, and rested his hand near hers on the console. Not touching, just close enough for her to feel the warmth radiating from him. The restraint was deliberate, but the tension was electric. She shivered again, more from the raw emotional intensity than the rain dripping through her hair.
"You feel that?" he murmured. "This pull. This bond we can't deny. It's ours. Always has been, always will be. You can fight it, Gauri... but you can't erase it."
Her lips parted, heart hammering, eyes searching his. "...I don't know," she admitted again, the words a confession and a plea all at once.
He leaned a fraction closer, the scent of him—wet hair, rain, the underlying wildness curling around her senses. "Then let me in. Not to take, not to demand... just to be part of your world. Let me stay emotionally. Don't shut me out. Not for Rikara... not just for her... for us."
Her hands clenched the seat belt, knuckles white, pulse racing. The wolf in him thrummed so close to the surface she could feel it, fierce and restrained. Every brush of his presence against hers made her body hum with tension she couldn't name.
"I... I want to," she whispered again, voice barely audible. "But I'm scared."
"Good," he said, low, dangerous, a flicker of a smile tugging at his lips. "You should be. Because I'm scared too. Scared of losing you, of failing you again. But Gauri... I'll face that fear every day, if you'll let me stay. Let me fight for us. Just... let me be here."
The car was impossibly small now, the charged air thick, every breath, every heartbeat magnified. Rain streaked down the windows, but inside, it was the storm between them that raged. She couldn't look away. She didn't want to. She wanted him, feared him, needed him all at once.
Finally, her voice came, trembling, fragile, and raw: "...Okay. I'll try. I... I'll let you in. Just... a little."
Omkara's eyes softened, but the intensity didn't fade. He exhaled, a deep, shuddering breath, letting her words sink between them. "That's all I needed," he murmured, voice low, steady. "One step at a time, Gauri. We'll move together. Always together."
The storm outside continued to rage, but inside that small, soaked car, the heat had begun to pool slow, insistent, undeniable. And for the first time in years, Gauri didn't resist. She let him be there. Let herself lean, even if just a fraction, into the bond they could never escape.
And Omkara, wolf restrained yet wild, let that be enough for now.
