Words uttered from the mouth

A promise made out loud

Hands wander

Explore the caverns

Lines and all the patterns

Beneath –

Synapses collide and collapse

Chest rises and falls back

In this singular moment – a breath

A thought – a grip that tightens

And then song erupts

Words like fireworks

Above –

Fulfil the promise made

Between the poet, pen and page

To wield the words with unrelenting care

And at times, cause unyielding spillage

To pen the storm and the sacrilege

And then the calm, that comes after

This - a poet's promise to the paper.
