Defeating death (TheTazz)

Defeating death

The night is young

Her footsteps splash in the freshly made mud from the afternoon storm.

She travels to the graveyard where she had died years ago

Now just a memory.

In the distance, she sees her grave

Through the thick fog that hovers over the ground, she reads her name on the stone

A shutter runs down her back.

An echoing growl ripples through the cold ridged air, bringing goosebumps to her skin

Glowing hostile eyes show through the fog

Closer and closer they come

She runs

Away from her death

Away from the beast that wants to drag her back to her grave where she escaped.

The beast leaves a trail of black roses, bleeding black blood as it starts to chase her

She can't go back, not now and not ever.

The haunting hole of her grave whispers her name throughout the space around her

Her head pounding with pressure and her vision growing blurry as the beast gains ground on her.

She has got to get away

She starts to questions why she revisited her grave, why she would ever go near there, why it still haunts her.

Her run feels slow and hard to move

The beast remains in pursuit.

A glare of light flashes in her eyes

A glare from something shiny, a sword buried under dirt and leaves.

It's a surprise that she spotted that at all, but she goes after it, it's her only hope.

She gets closer, but it seems to only get farther

Like she won't have enough time to snatch the weapon before the claws of the beast tare into her sides.

Running and running

It never seems to end.

It's in reach now

She dives down to uncover her revival

The beast is right behind her lunging into the air to catch its prey

She gets ahold of the sword and swoops it into the air, hoping she is not too late...

Everything is black, everything is still.

She feels the cold dead body of her predator.

She did it, she won

It's all over now.

The fog clears and the sun starts to shine

The beast turns into a black mist and disappears.

She is free, she has escaped her haunting

No more misery...

No more pain...

Freedom at last.
