Chapter Three

Life really had strange timing. When you were desperate for someone to come and save you, that never happened. Even when you were lying on the ground begging for someone to help you through those perils of life, nobody would hold your hand, loneliness would suffocate you, and still, you would have to survive alone. And when you accepted it, when you put your guard up, when you understood that the only person who would be able to help you as you yourself, destiny would bring you to a person who wanted to be there for you. But why now? Why when it was hard to let someone in?
Laying on my bed, staring at the white ceiling, all I could think about was those stormy grey eyes. Every expression, every movement of his, I was over-analyzing and overthinking every damn thing. This habit of mine would really make me crazy one day. I realized that I was so distracted by him that I forgot to reign in my aura. And I wondered why no more witches or warlocks were approaching me. No one could be comfortable around my aura except a few older witches and my family. Even for them, it exhausted their energy so I always tried to keep it under control. Also, it was funny to see when some people judged me by my aura and underestimated me; it got me that surprise factor during fights.
My father informed me that the reason the werewolves were staying for a week was because of some professional work. We would be having a meeting regarding that topic tomorrow morning. The last thought I had before slipping into a dreamless slumber was how would it feel to sleep with his arms around me.
I woke exactly at four in the morning. At witch training centres, it was compulsory to wake up at four. After breakfast, I still had an hour left so I decided to go to our training field.
I could feel my magic crackling, which meant Conrad was awake and somewhere near me. Walking towards the field, I could feel the soft breeze brushing through my black hair. Standing in the corner, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I felt the blood rushing through my veins, my magic dancing with my blood, intertwined with my complete being. I sensed wind rushing towards me; opening my eyes I willed the air around me to encircle me. The pressure slowly increased against my skin. I increased the speed, and the wall of air got higher, high enough to cover me completely. Blades of grass could be seen dancing with the air around me. With a blink, I willed it to stop. Warm up done, now it was time for a duel.
"Which element today, Eva?" said a strong voice, and I turned around to see Celeste smirking at me.
Celeste was the royal trainer of elementals. A powerful witch herself, she had power over water, air, and temperature. The temperature control was her personal flair. A deadly combination. She knew just how to use her powers to give birth to the most powerful weapons on any battlefield.
"I was thinking of air but since you're here today, let's combine air and water." I spoke with a hint of challenge in my voice. Winning against her would not be easy, even though I had more power than her. It wasn't easy to beat experience and skill with power that easily. Even if I had an abundance of magic, without proper skill I wouldn't be able to beat anyone.
"Go stand in your circle then," said Celeste with a smirk on her face as she went to stand in her own circle.
My magic crackled; he was here. I had to win now. Not only because my mate was here, but because the werewolf king was here.
I stood inside my circle, right in front of my teacher. I felt a slight disturbance behind me and ducked just in time for an icicle to woosh by me. She was in a mood today. I unleashed my aura and observed her. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my body, heart beating faster with each passing second. She was looking straight at me, but her left thumb was pointing to my right side. She was focusing on conjuring an attack but she'd put up no defence. I wonder how could she forget that. It was good for me though.
A ball of water hit my back, the force of it was enough to make me stumble forward. Her thumb had been a distraction. As punishment for the mistake of underestimating my teacher, the water hit me from a completely different direction. Luckily I was still inside my circle, I had a chance. Old witches were so damn powerful. One blow could had the potential to cause my death, but it all depended on the force of elements. Since it was a training, Celeste didn't use much force.
Materializing behind her was a ball of water which I sent rapidly towards her. However, she was quick, quicker than I expected her to be. Smirking at my failed attempts, she ducked and changed it into a ball of ice which came hurling towards me like a bullet. It was a blur before my eyes when suddenly - it stopped. I smirked at her. I was able to stop the ice bullet right before it hit me.
I willed the ball of ice to burst, causing a few pieces to fall on both of us, and then raised a wall of water around me. I had a defence for a few seconds since she would be focused on rendering my wall powerless. This time I willed a ball of air and surrounded it by water. If I could have used my fire element in this fight, I would have trapped water inside air and then converted it into steam. Since I couldn't, this would have to work. I made three balls of air trapped within the water and launched them at her from all three sides. She was still throwing icicles at my wall when it happened. She saw it when it was too late. She ducked at the right time, but unfortunately for her, she became unbalanced. It was my chance; I increased the air pressure against her back and pushed her enough to fall outside the circle. Three balls collided with each other, giving everyone a free shower.
Before lowering my wall, I controlled the dominance of my aura again. Celeste looked like a proud parent when I saw her stand again.
"Good work. You have attained very good control over your magic. Selene really did a good job in training you," she said with a smile on her face, "but don't let it get to your head. Remember that pride comes before the fall. If you begin to underestimate your enemy, you will lose."
I respectfully nodded to her, after which she bowed and went to teach other elementals. But my eyes were searching for someone else. I knew he was there, but I wasn't able to see him.
"Searching for me?" I heard a deep voice and turned around to find him leaning beside a tree. He was wearing a white shirt with black slacks, a blazer hanging around his arms. His face was expressionless as always. I tried to read his emotions through his eyes, but they just appeared grey to me. I didn't know why they said that eyes were windows to the soul. Except for his eye colour, I couldn't read anything. Maybe I needed to observe him more to understand his different eye emotions.
"Good morning, Alpha," I greeted him respectfully. He was my mate, but he was here in my kingdom as a guest, so I decided that for a week I would treat him like an Alpha King. Also, the most emotion he showed was when I called him Alpha, and I needed a reminder that he wasn't a robot.
My mate narrowed his eyes a little and clenched his jaw tightly. It was good that he was a werewolf. If he would have been a human, his teeth would have begged for mercy.
"Good morning, Luna," he said in his usual robotic voice but this time there was a little smirk on his lips when he turned around and strolled away like a king.
I stilled when I heard him. From how formal he presented himself to be, I didn't think he had the ability to taunt me. I smirked as my magic danced inside my veins, loving the little game he had just begun.

Life really is strange, isn't it?
