Chapter Eleven

After our meeting where they agreed to talk to the vampires, Conrad and Marcus went for their training, leaving Daniel to show the pack to me. I had only seen the forest, the pack house, and Conrad's home until now, so I was excited to explore the pack areas. But I could see that something was bothering Daniel; he was pouting as we walked around the pack house garden.

"It's okay if you have somewhere to go," I said, but he shook his head quickly.

"It's just that the Alpha and Beta are going to have a fight today," he replied, sulking, "and I wanted to see them fight."

"They are having a fight?" I gasped.

"Yes," he said grinning widely. "Beta thinks he has trained enough to beat Alpha."

"Did he challenge him?" I asked, perplexed.

"No," he answered seriously. "I know some alphas can take this as disrespect, but our alpha knows the difference between teasing and disrespect. Also, it's necessary for training," he explained, after which his eyes suddenly filled with excitement. "Do you want to see them train?" he questioned, his voice getting a pitch higher and showing his barely-concealed exhilaration.

I wanted to see him fight. I gave him a sign of affirmation, and he lead me towards the training grounds. Their pack was large, so I wasn't shocked when I saw a huge field surrounded by forest on three sides. A crowd gathered around a circle inside which Conrad and Marcus were talking.

"Come. I will introduce you to our trainer, and we'll also get the best seats to watch Marcus humiliate himself," Daniel chirped.

He pulled me towards the front of the circle. There a man with an oval-shaped face, tanned skin, and a head full of untamed ash blonde hair was talking to a group of young wolves. He turned towards us when we came closer, his green coloured eyes lightening as he looked at me and bowed.

"This is our pack commander, Agnor Wolf," Daniel introduced us. "Agnor thi-"

"I know, Delta," Agnor interrupted him, smiling towards me. "Pleasure to meet you, Luna."

I nodded at him. Standing beside him, I turned towards the circle to find my mate staring at me. He nodded to Agnor, permitting him to start the fight.

"Alright," Agnor shouted. "Alpha and Beta, you know the rules: no shifting before I say so, and the fight ends when you bare your neck. Start!"

They stalked towards each other, eyeing their opponents carefully. Both looked formidable, but Marcus was the bulkier one; if anyone saw them, they would say that he would win. He looked alert, his body ready for an attack, whereas Conrad seemed more relaxed than ever. However, his eyes were alert, like a predator in search of his prey. He moved like a lion on the prowl, fierce, feral, and deadly.

Lunging at him, Marcus began their fight, but Conrad easily sidestepped him. The former lunged again, but Conrad was quick-he sidestepped again. Another lunge; another sidestep. I was brimming with excitement now. Their fight had attracted attention, and the pack members stopped their training to look at the spectacle. Marcus swung at Conrad, but the latter leaned out of his way. Again a flying fist came from Marcus. Unable to meet its target, it left nothing but dust. I was amazed at Conrad's speed and agility. If I was a human, I wouldn't have been able to see him. He moved like a shadow, silent but swift. Marcus was fuming, low growls emerging from his throat. His claws replaced his fingernails, and canines extended.

The Alpha King snickered at this sight. "Are you even trying, Beta?" he said with his canines protruding. His voice was wolfish, more playful. I wondered how he looked on a battlefield if this was just his training. I shuddered at the thought of him looking more devious than what he looked now. He made his first move. A swift kick into the opponent's solar plexus was the perfect way to begin. Marcus's body bent due to its force, and Conrad followed his move with a knee to his temple and a fist to his ribcage. My mouth hung open at his speed; he was quick, even for a werewolf, quicker than any I had seen before. His blow sent Beta back a few feet. The man was breathing heavily, and I suspected that he may have cracked a rib due to his leaning posture. Conrad, on the other hand, had a smirk on his face, still relaxed.

"Shift!" Agnor's voice boomed around the training field.

Conrad and Marcus lunged at each other, their wolves emerging and meeting their opponent mid-shift. They rolled around in the dirt, biting, clawing, scratching, and ripping at each other. Marcus took a chunk out of Conrad's shoulder, blood coating his fur. He jumped away from Conrad before stalking back towards him. I winced when I saw Conrad's shoulder spilling blood-werewolves healed quickly, but it wasn't painless. Conrad's grey wolf roared loudly and charged at Marcus, biting into his already injured rib. Marcus's pained howl split the air. As the note cut off, he bit his alpha's ear and rolled out of his grasp. They were circling again when Marcus's black wolf ran towards the grey wolf, trying to bite his hind leg. However, even in his wolf form Conrad was quick. He whipped around and jumped on Marcus's back, sinking his teeth between his shoulder blades.

The black wolf used this as an opportunity to jump backwards and slam him into the dirt. But as quick as ever, he jumped up and lunged at Marcus, making him fall onto the ground with Conrad's teeth around his neck. The fight was over when Marcus angled his neck in submission.

Agnor walked up to them, after which they shifted back to their human forms-naked human forms. Agnor's broad-shouldered body came into my view which obstructed the vision of my mate. "This is exactly what happens when you ignore training your human form," he said to Marcus. Smacking him, he went to stand beside him. Looking away, I tried to not think about my naked mate.

"Ow!" he exclaimed, covering his head. "I am injured. Why are you so heartless?"

Conrad shook his head, looked at me and smiled. After he was wearing his pants again, I walked to him with Daniel by my side.

"Is your shoulder okay?" I asked, looking at the shoulder which had a long, deep gash across it. My magic simmered at the sight of my injured mate. He smiled, tucking an unruly strand of hair behind my ear. "I am fine. I have some work to do, so continue exploring this pack with Daniel."

Daniel agreed, asking me to follow him. I asked him to show me the Wild Creek forest. I had a sudden urge to go near the enchanted woodland. I couldn't explain it, but we needed to check it out. I sent a silent prayer, hoping that it wasn't a bad omen.

How was the fight? Likes, dislikes or anything to improve?
