#19 Counting Seconds

Another update. I hope you won't get tired of me.

"So, who are you?"

Taemin panicked yet keeping his poker face, he asked back.

"What do mean?"

"Who was it? That person you met today." At that moment Taemin realized he misheard. His mind must be playing with him.

"Would you believe me, if I say it was really my mother." Taemin told the truth. He was tired of lying the whole day. How much of the truth can he tell Minho?

"You mean you've been in touch with your mom behind your dad's back?" Taemin was sure Minho was amused.

"I have never lost contact to my mom, except for that one time when I was young. It was for a short time though." Taemin explained, meaning that time he was kidnapped.

"Your dad knows nothing, even though he has been looking for her for so long?" Minho laughed.

"I surely don't tell my father everything." T answered the question indirectly, letting M interpret the statement. By that Minho pulled Taemin in for a passionate kiss.

"I just love you even more, Kim Kibum." The gang leader confessed unknowingly.

"Did you just say you love me?" Taemin repeated the L word, causing Minho to notice what he just said. Luckily, he wasn't one of those people who couldn't hide their blush.

After a moment of silence, Taemin saved Minho from the struggle of finding the right words.

"Forget it. Say it to me again, when you know you mean it." Minho literally imagine a weight falling off his mind. Taemin was understanding and sweet... and sexy. M was aware of his fortune to having such a person on his side. Little did he knew his luck had an expiration day.

Seven days from now on.

Because seven days was all Onew gave Taemin. Seven days to straighten things out. Seven days to settle his heart. Seven days to say goodbye. Seven days to leave Minho for good.

Taemin snuggle into Minho's embrace, mouthing "I'm sorry" as he was sure Minho wouldn't see his face. He felt guilty he made Minho believe those things about Kibum. Yet theoretically Taemin didn't lie. He was sick of pretend to be Kim Kibum. He was sick of being someone else. He hated the idea of leaving Minho when the older wouldn't know a thing about his real person. Minho wouldn't even know his name once he had left.

Seven days to make Minho learn about Lee Taemin, not the person he pretended to be.

Seven days to make memories.

__________

Key laid down next to Jonghyun who was leaning against the bed, reading an e-book. Jonghyun immediately put away his iPad as Key got under the blanket.

"You don't look happy. Wasn't it nice to see your mom again?" Jonghyun asked, playing with Key's hair since he knew that relaxed the younger boy.

"It was more than nice. I missed her. But it was a weird situation." Key answered.

"You mean her sudden visit?"

"Yeah you could say, I wasn't expecting to see her"

..."ever again." Key kept the last past to himself.

"I talked to my father. He won't come up with surprises anymore. That was rude to unexpectedly drop in on you like that." Jonghyun said.

Key grabbed Jonghyun's free hand. "Thank you," he said. The feeling of Jonghyun's fingers going through his hair was so comfortable. Shortly after, Key fell asleep.

Yet, even in his dreams he couldn't escape reality. Pieces of his conversation with his mom kept repeating in his mind.

"How long can you lie to him?"

"Are you sure he isn't feeling that way because of the marriage?"

"He doesn't even know your name."

"He might think he loves you, but is he?"

Key woke up with a worse headache then all the hangovers he ever had.

"Does Jonghyun love him or did he love the Lee Taemin he played?" Key wondered.

It had been almost a week since Key reunited with his mom. Even though she rushed back to America, they have been talking every day. He loved talking to her, yet Jonghyun was a sensitive topic. Key didn't want to keep explaining to her that what they had was real. She wouldn't understand it. But Key was sure, Jonghyun loved him.

... Was he?

"I'm sorry. I need to pick up this call," Jonghyun apologized before standing up, leaving the dinning room. Jonghyun's voice brought Key back to earth. Had he been lost in his thoughts again? That happened way too often lately.

"Are you not feeling well?" Mr. Kim surprised him as he broke the silence after Jonghyun left. For one second, he forgot he was having dinner with his father in law. Well, Taemin's father in law.

"No, I'm fine." Key answered.

"How are things going with Jonghyun?"

"Good. Great," Key replied. "Very great."

"Are you sure? You haven't look at him since we've sat down."

"Was it so obviously?" Key asked. Jonghyun's father nodded.

"I'm afraid we've rushed things a bit."

"What did Jonghyun say about that?" The man questioned.

"Jonghyun seems to think different, I guess... We haven't talk about it." Key sighed.

"Did you know Jonghyun used to have a dog?" Mr. Kim asked, laying down his wineglass.

"Yes, he told me about Milo." Key answered.

"Did he tell you how he got it?"

Key shook his head and Mr. Kim continued.

"He was about 12 years old when he insisted on adopting a dog. My wife and I were against it, since a dog means a huge responsibility... especially for a kid. We explained to him, that a dog needs to be taken out every day. No matter if the sun shines or if it rains. But as you've already noticed, Jonghyun is a stubborn one. He has always been. Jonghyun was certain he could take the dog out every day. He promised us. So, in the end we agreed on a bet."

"A bet? Is that how parents should behave?" Key thought.

"We gave him our word, if he can go for a walk every day for one month, we would allow him to adopt a dog."

"Jonghyun won the bet, I assumed." Key said, and Mr. Kim laughed.

"Almost. He was impressive, even though it was rain season. Yet, he went for a walk every single day after school. Until the 27th day, when he caught a cold and had to stay in bed. We thought he'd sleep through the night. At midnight his mother woke me up, as she couldn't find Jonghyun in his bed."

"That must have been terrible for you."

"We panicked," Mr. Kim nodded. "We found him in the nearby park in his pajama. It took us less than 15 minutes to find him, but it felt like centuries."

Key could sense the fatherly love. Until now Key'd thought of Jonghyun's father as a very cold and unapproachable person, since Mr. Kim never showed any emotion. But maybe he had put on a poker face for too long, he forgot to put it down in front of his family.

"Jonghyun left the house in the middle of the night?" Key asked.

"Yes, he said he went for a walk before midnight, so he still didn't lose the bet. That was all that idiot cared about while having high fever. He was barely standing. His condition was so bad, we had to bring him to the hospital where he stayed for the next days." Mr. Kim continued telling the story.

"So, he lost the bet?"

"Indeed, but when he was released from the hospital, we did surprise him with a puppy." Mr. Kim proudly say with a smile.

"So, you're actually a softie. Jonghyun might got that from his father." Key thought.

"What I wanted to tell is, Jonghyun is one who's true to his word. He always means what he says, therefore all you need to do is talking to him."

"I got it," said Key and mouthing "thank you" as Jonghyun came back.

"I'm sorry, something happened. I need to go." Jonghyun hurried, reaching for Key to place a kiss on his check. "I'll call you later." He said, rushed out of the room.

"Jonghyun," called Key, but the older boy didn't notice. Key turned to Mr. Kim. His father in law nodded in encouragement.

"Go after him," he said. And Key did as he was told.

"Jonghyun," he exclaimed. Finally, Jonghyun stopped right in front of his car.

"What happened? You ok?" Key worried.

"I'm fine, but a friend needs my help. His friend went missing." Jonghyun explained.

"Oh my god... can I help?" Key offered.

"Would you?"

"Of course, he's your friend." Key replied.

"Gosh, I love you," Jonghyun said out loud and they both got in the car, heading to an unknown place.

"Your friend, did he report his friend as missing?" Key questioned.

"No, he can't call the police. That's why he needs out help." Jonghyun answered.

"Why can't he call the cops? What if things are serious?" K asked out of curiosity. Naturally, he knew a lot of reasons for not calling the cops. But those reasons would only work out, if you're from the underworld. A person from J's world would be anything but a gangster, K thought.

Jonghyun kept silence.

"Jonghyun?"

"I can trust you, can I?" Jonghyun asked, looking into Key's eyes.

"Of course," Key confirmed and the older turned his head back to the street.

"He is a cop." Jonghyun explained.

"He is undercover."

I hope you guys had or will have a better day than I did.
Today was one of the worst day I ever had since a long time.

It was an important day and I f*cked up.

Like I did my best at work and then I realized it wasn't enough. That just sucks.

I'm so disappointed of myself right now, I feel like I can't breath.

"Don't grow up, it's a trap"... why did nobody tell me sooner.

PS: I wasn't in my best form today, so I might have ruined this chapter.
