CHAPTER SIX //Β FIRST DATE
NERVES FILLED PRESLEY'S STOMACH as she waited for Opie to arrive for their dinner date. It had been years since she had gone on a date, being with Will for so long the romance was quickly gone once they had gotten together and he stopped trying to romance her a few months into their relationship.
A million thoughts raced through her mind. Was her outfit too much, not enough, would she be able to hold a conversation with Opie and not let things get awkward? All of the thoughts made her head hurt.
"You look nice, kiddo." Bobby smiled as he walked into the living room with a bowl of popcorn in his hands and Keely following close behind him.
Bobby was happy to see Presley doing so well in Charming. It had only been a few months, but she looked much happier now than she did when she first showed up.
"Thanks, dad." The brunette gave a weak smiles as she looked down her outfit. She had decided on a simple tan halter top with jeans and some boots. Opie hadn't told her where he was taking her for dinner, but she figured it wouldn't be anywhere too fancy β which she preferred.
"You look pretty, mommy." Keely smiled as she climbed onto the couch, waiting for her grandpa to press play on the latest Disney movie.
"Thanks, baby." Presley's nerves instantly relaxed at her daughter's compliment. "Thanks for watching her tonight." The brunette turned her attention towards her father, a thankful smile on her face.
Bobby nodded as he sat down on the couch next to Keely, his attention on his daughter while a cheerful song played on the tv. "Of course, kiddo."
The Elvis impersonator could sense his daughter's nerves as she ran a hand through her dark hair. Bobby wasn't sure what type of relationship Presley and Keely's father had, but he could guess it wasn't a healthy one by the few things she said when she did speak of him. It made him angry at himself that he hadn't been there for her, to show her that she could of done better, to teach her to not like a piece of shit man control her, but he wasn't and he was trying his hardest to make up for it now.
"Hey, don't worry." Bobby assured his daughter with a soft smile. "You could wear one of my Elvis costumes and Opie would still wanna take you out." Bobby teased, earning a laugh from Presley.
Presley rolled her eyes as a laugh left her lips. She appreciated that he was trying to take her mind off of her racing thoughts. A lot of people didn't understand what it was like to overthink every little thing. It was exhausting and many people grew frustrated with her, but her family in Charming didn't.
The loud rumble of a motorcycle filled the home as a smiled filled Presley's face. The brunette quickly stood up from the couch, grabbing her purse and giving Keely a kiss goodbye before making her way towards the door.
"Be back by midnight!" Bobby teased with a chuckle. He knew Presley didn't want any awkward conversations between Opie and him. He had already given the Winston man a warning earlier in the day and Presley was not happy with him at all when she found out.
"Don't give Keely too much sugar, dad!" Presley called out with a warning in her tone before she exited the house.
"Looks like it's just you and me, kiddo."
THE RESTAURANT OPIE HAD TAKEN HER TO was cute and laid back just like him. It wasn't over the top and full of fancy rich people looking down on them for wearing more laid back clothes. Presley liked it.
Presley held a glass of white wine up to her lips while listening to Opie tell a story about his childhood. A smile had stayed on her face since they arrived at the small restaurant. She liked hearing Opie talk, about anything. His voice was calming and he made her feel comfortable.
"You know, I remember you from the few times you visited when we were kids." Opie said suddenly after finishing his story.
A look of shock crossed her face for a moment before she placed her wine down. "Really? I thought Gemma was the only one who remembered me." She said with a small laugh.
"I mean, I know the other know me because of my job, but I didn't realize you remembered me." The brunette added, feeling her cheeks warm up.
Opie nodded as he took a sip of his beer. "Of course I'd remember you, Presley Munson."
A warm feeling spread through her body as her name left Opie's lips. She honestly couldn't remember the last time she had felt like this about someone. With Will it was different. He was the cooler older guy that had taken an interest in her and she wanted so desperately to be away from her mother and her string of boyfriends that she thought he was the love of her life β her savior.
Once the rose colored glasses shattered (and quickly they did) Presley realized it was too late to leave him. Will was like her mother in guy form β vindictive, emotionally abusive, and selfish. It was never true love between them, and she desperately wanted to find true love.
"You know, this is my first date in a long time." Opie began as he placed his beer down. "After my wife died I didn't think I'd ever date again." He said with a sad smile. "But, I like you. I like being around you and I don't know, I don't mean to get so emotional on our first date." The tall man shook his head as a ran a hand over his face.
He felt like an idiot for bringing up Donna while on a date. How stupid of him. What woman wanted to hear about his dead wife while on a date? He was sure Presley wouldn't want another date after this.
Presley reached across the table, placing a comforting hand on top of Opie's. "I understand what you mean. I mean I didn't go through something as terrible as you did." The brunette quickly adde, trying not to dismiss Opie's feelings.
"Keely's dad isn't dead or anything like that, but I was in such a bad place with him that I thought I'd never get out. I thought I'd be stuck with him forever. I went through days where I prayed he would leave me or cheat on me so I could finally be rid of him, yet when he finally kicked me out for someone new I was shocked." A small laugh left her lips as she spoke.
It was the most she had told anyone about Will and their relationship that it felt good to get it out. Of course there was much more, but it didn't all need to be said in one night.
"I'm sorry you went through that." Opie apologized as he squeezed Presley's hand. He felt an anger fill his body as he took in her words. He could tell there was more about her ex than she was saying but he wasn't going to push her. Opie hoped she would tell him when she wanted too.
"I appreciate that, Opie. I'm sorry you went through what you did."
Presley didn't know the full story of what happened to his wife. Gemma had mentioned her death a few times, but hadn't elaborated further on it and Presley didn't feel it her place to ask. All she knew was that Opie was a heartbroken man trying to rebuild his life much like she was. Maybe they could rebuild theirs together.
AN β
