Meilani sat down in her class with Scott while they waited for Stiles to show up. She dug around in her bookbag for her notebook when she froze, a familiar scent entering her nostrils. Her eyes slowly raised to the seat in front of Scott and her stomach dropped when she saw Isaac sat in front of him.
"Houston, we have a problem," Scott whispered, staring wide eyed at the back of Isaac's head.
Meilani gave Scott a look because even if Scott whispered, Isaac could still very much hear him. Unless Scott forgot, Isaac was a werewolf and could hear just like she could. She dropped her bag to the ground just as Stiles barreled into the classroom and collapsed into the seat behind his girlfriend.
"So, I just talked to my dad who talked to Jackson, and I've got really terrible, horrible, very, very bad news," Stiles whispered to the twins who both turned to look at him.
"Yeah, we kind of already know," Meilani mumbled, jerking her head to the seat Isaac occupied.
The three settled into their seats as the teacher entered the classroom. To say it was the longest class of their life would be an understatement. Meilani chewed on her lip the whole time, the fight with him, Erica and Derek the other night kept replaying in her head. He wore this cocky smirk and Meilani knew that no good would come out of it. She really needed to keep her guard up today if she wanted to survive.
Once the bell rang, Meilani, Scott and Stiles didn't hesitate to rush out of the room so they wouldn't get cornered by Isaac. It was bad enough Erica still walked the halls, now they had to deal with both werewolves again. Meilani just wanted a break already.
"Okay, so I only found one thing online called the Kanima. It's a werejaguar from South America that goes after murderers," Stiles explained to the twins as they walked down the hallway.
"That thing was not a jaguar," Meilani countered, shaking her head. "No way."
Stiles gestured to himself. "Do I look like a murderer to you?"
"You did see it kill somebody, which is probably why it tried to kill you," Scott reminded Stiles, gripping onto his bookbag straps. "And it's still trying to kill you, and it probably won't stop until it you're dead."
Stiles stopped walking and glared at the back of Scott's head. "You know, sometimes I really question this friendship, Scott."
Meilani rolled her eyes at the bickering boys and walked into the next class with the boys trailing behind her. She took her seat which was in front of Jackson and next to Stiles while Scott had the unfortunate seat next to Jackson. The three opened up their books to where they left off last class as Jackson came in the room and sat down in his seat.
"Hey, what the hell is a Kanima?" Jackson asked the three, causing the trio to whirl around in their seats and stare at him wide eyed. How did Jackson know about the Kanima?
However, before any of them could make up some sort of story for it, Coach Finstock slammed his textbook down onto the desk and leant against the front of it. "Alright, listen up. A quick warning before we begin our review. Some you, like the male McCall, might want to start their own study groups, because tomorrow's midterm is so profoundly difficult... I'm not even too sure I could pass it."
"I wonder why," Meilani mumbled, earning a snicker from her boyfriend and twin.
"Okay, now I need a volunteer at the board to answer the first question," Coach Finstock continued, thankfully not hearing Meilani's comment or the boys' laughter. "Who's got it?"
Once Coach Finstock chose a random kid from the back of the class that raised his hand, Meilani and the boys turned back to Jackson to figure out how he could have possibly heard or known about the Kanima.
"Derek and his freaking pack of psychopaths kidnapped me from the locker room last night and dripped some kind of drool in my mouth. He said I had to be tested to see if I was this creature, which I found out through a conversation from Erica and Isaac that it's called a Kanima. I was paralyzed from the neck down. Do you have any idea what that feels like?" Jackson huffed, leaning close so the four could whisper without Coach Finstock hearing.
"I'm familiar with the feeling sensation," Stiles replied, shuddering at the memory of being paralyzed when he touched the slimy door handle at the car shop when Meilani and Scott had to pick him up.
"Wait... why would Derek test you?" Meilani questioned, not understanding where Derek's supposed plan was going. She wasn't even sure if he truly had a plan. "Why would he think it's you?"
Jackson gave Meilani a look. "How am I supposed to know, McCall?"
Stiles moved closer as he subtly glanced over his shoulder to Lydia who sat in the back, twirling her curly hair around her finger as she pretended to listen to whatever Coach Finstock said from the front. "Wait, do they think it's Lydia?"
"I don't know, all I heard was her name and something about chemistry," Jackson replied.
"Jackson!" Coach Finstock yelled, stopping in front of the little huddle the four made. "Do you have something you want to share with the rest of the class?"
"Um..." Jackson trailed off, glancing around the room that now had their full attention on him. "Just an undying admiration for my - my coach."
"That's really kind of you," Coach Finstock smiled briefly before his face fell back into its usual straight expression. "Now shut up! Shut it. Anybody else?"
Meilani waited for Coach Finstock to walk back to the board before she grabbed Stiles by the front of his zip-up hoodie, pulling him closer to her. "How do we know it's not her?"
"Because I looked into the eyes of that thing, okay? What I saw was pure evil. Lydia's eyes are only about fifty percent evil," Stiles answered and sat back in his seat, blinking when Meilani stared at him. "Alright, fine, sixty percent. You know, but maybe forty on a good day."
"Stiles, that's not a good argument," Scott said, frowning slightly.
Stiles sighed and played with the pencil in his hand. "I am aware of that, but I swear it's not her. It can't be her. Lydia's fine."
"May have spoke too soon," Jackson commented, pointing to the board where Lydia stood, shaking and crying. She had written words on the board that definitely were not English and it was backwards.
"What is that? Greek?" Meilani asked, trying to make sense of what made Lydia write that on the board and why she seemed so frightened.
"No, actually, I think it is English," Stiles replied and held up his phone for Meilani, Scott and Jackson to see. He had taken a photo of the words written all across the board and flipped the image around to show the message SOMEONE HELP ME written in the chalk.
"Oh boy..." Meilani heavily sighed, slouching in her chair and covering her face with her hands.

"Derek is not going to kill without proof," Meilani assured Stiles and Scott who seemed worried for the health of Lydia Martin. She did as well because, honestly, Lydia didn't seem as bad anymore like she used to. Whatever was going on definitely changed her personality a bit to where she was still the same Lydia but to a lesser degree.
"Alright, so he tests her like he did with Jackson, right? But when and where?" Stiles asked.
Scott froze when he saw Isaac and Erica walk in, eyeing the empty seat next to Lydia. "I think here and now."
Meilani eyes bounced from the empty seat next to Lydia back to the two wolves who glanced to Meilani, probably already knowing what plan she had began to form in her head. No way she could let Erica or Isaac sit next to Lydia. She was quick to drag Stiles to the table with her and they sat on either side of her, causing Erica and Isaac to have to sit behind them while Scott took his seat next to Allison.
Allison furrowed her eyebrows at Meilani who subtly nodded her head behind her and her eyes moved to the table where Erica and Isaac sat. Her face fell as she looked back to Meilani who merely shrugged.
"Einstein once said, two things are INFINITE: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe. I myself have encountered infinite stupidity," Mr. Harris began, walking around the classroom, patting Stiles on the shoulder as he spoke about stupidity. "So to combat the plague of ignorance in my class, you're going to combine efforts through a round of group experiments. Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one. Or in Mr. Stilinski's case, less than one."
Stiles closed his eyes and took a deep breath so he wouldn't lash out on Mr. Harrison and get himself another detention with the man. Meilani offered him a sympathetic smile.
"Erica, you may take the first station. You'll start with..." Mr. Harris trailed off when a majority of the hands in the room went up as volunteers. "I didn't ask for volunteers. Put your hormonal little hands down. Start with Ms. McCall."
After Mr. Harris gave out the rest of the assigned pairs, the room went to their respective tables and Meilani reluctantly sat at the first table with Erica, filling up random tubes with whatever was assigned to them. "Listen, whatever you're thinking about doing, wait. Give me a chance to talk to Derek."
Erica smirked as she watched Meilani do all the work, which wasn't a surprise to Meilani. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You know exactly what I'm talking about," Meilani growled and turned to Erica, her eyes flashing yellow to show she wasn't fucking around. "Leave Lydia alone."
"Next stations!" Mr. Harris yelled and the room shifted around to different stations and partners.
Meilani was quick to take the seat next to Lydia and behind Stiles and Isaac. Stiles had the unlucky break of trying to convince Isaac to stay away from Isaac. None of this was going to be easy, especially not when the bell rang not even five minutes later and it didn't seem like Stiles got anywhere Isaac.
The rest of the class went by unsuccessful, with Isaac getting the seat next to Lydia and Erica wound up next to Allison, who tried to tease and manipulate Allison about Scott. Not like the hunter would back down from someone like Erica.
Mr. Harris announced the end of the experiment and that the class should have crystals in their tubes. Something that Meilani and Stiles definitely did not have. It looked more like a pile of sand than a crystal. Neither one of them would be eating that any time soon, thank you very much.
Meilani's eyes widened when she noticed Isaac hand Lydia the crystal, a clear good subtly dripping from it as if it were saliva. "Lydia!"
Lydia turned in her seat and furrowed her eyebrows at the brunette. "What?"
Meilani scanned the room that now stared at her as if she had gone crazy. Erica's eyes were narrowed at her while Allison looked slightly uncomfortable. Isaac smirked at her as if he knew that he would get away with what he just did because it wasn't like Meilani could say anything. There was nothing she could say to make Lydia not eat the crystal. "Nothing... never mind," she sighed, defeated and dropped back down onto her stool.
Lydia bit into the crystal with a shrug and Meilani looked away, her whole body seizing up when she noticed something out the window. Across the parking lot, was a black sports car with a familiar leather jacket leant against it.
Derek Hale.
