β Λqβΰ¨ Closure and Truth pt.2 ΰ§β Λqβ
(Five years ago)
"Junie, Oh my gosh congratulations! I know the new launch would crush the market!! When are you releasing it?" Jiwon's excited voice rang through the hallways, as she was heading back home, while on call with her fiancΓ©, a skip to her step evident and a huge grin spread across her face upon hearing the good news he was telling her.
"After our wedding. You really think the idea's that perfect Wonie?" Yeonjun giggled from the other side, blushing profusely on being praised.
"Ofcourse! Your intelligence never ceases to surprise me. The great Mr.Choi Yeonjun indeed." She teased, locking the door to her office, turning around to leave until she was met with a figure she definitely didn't wish to see right now.
"Haha you're biased Jiwonie, also-"
"Junie I'll call you later okay? I have a situation here, see you later yeah? Love you, bye!" With those abrupt words, Jiwon quickly ended the call, now facing the person standing infront of her with a glare.
"What do you want now, Jihan?" She questioned, the warmth in her voice replaced with coldness; eyes wary and disinterested.
"I don't want anything, but you definitely will after I tell you this." Jihan smirked, leaning on the wall with his arms crossed.
"If that's all you have to say, I'm leaving. I'm not interested in anything that concerns you." She replied in a bored tone, slinging her purse over her shoulders; ready to leave until Jihan's words made her stop.
"But it concerns your Junie though." He mumbled, a dirty smirk etched on his lips.
Hearing the name of her fiancΓ© from her step-brother's mouth made her halt her steps, a look of confusion appearing on her face.
"What about Yeonjun? Don't you dare plot anything dirty against him." She narrowed her eyes, glaring at him as her voice turned more serious and threatening.
"So possessive. Tch." Jihan chuckled, his wicked intentions clear from his laughter, as his hands swiftly lifted his coat, fingers shuffling inside the pocket and bringing out a small object out of it.
A small green coloured micro-chip.
"Too bad, I already have dirt on him, and now is the perfect opportunity to use it against you." He smirked, inching closer to her.
"What are you implying, you bastard?" Jiwon hissed, maintaining eye-contact with him, wondering what dirty games he was upto this time.
"The launch...the whole coding and formula is in this chip. You should change your office lock, dear sister." He whispered near her ears, making Jiwon's eyes widen.
Oh shit.
So he had managed to get his hands on Yeonjun's laptop she had in her office yesterday when Yeonjun came here to show her his planning and somehow, hacked his way into it when they had left the room.
"Y-you-" with an utterly baffled look, she stared at him; surprised by the sheer audacity this man had. How dare he?
"Poor Yeonjun, he has no idea trusting his lovely Jiwon is going to be his company's downfall." He chuckled, putting the chip back inside his coat pocket as Jiwon tried to snatch it.
"What will you get out of it! Why are you targetting Yeonjun! Your enemy is me, so why him?" Jiwon tried to keep her voice as calm as possible, but the tremble in her body and the wavering of her eyes was a clear giveaway that she was nervous and scared.
Yeonjun's company was fresh and new in the market. If the new project gets leaked before Yeonjun launches it, all the investment and hardwork Yeonjun put into it would go down the drain, and his company will flop even before it can start.
She can't let that happen.
She knows how much Love Yeonjun has for this project, and how much hardwork he put in to start the re-branding of his father's company to prove his worth. She can't let his dreams get destroyed just like this.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked, trying to keep her rage in control. She didn't have the upper hand here right now, so being calm was the only option, even if she wanted to kick this bastard right now.
"Well well, if you're planning to destroy me by taking over the company, you think I'll sit and watch while you giggle and shit with him hmm?" He replied, his expression turning hateful and envious.
Oh, so this is what it's about. Power and possession. As expected.
"Just say you can't admit you're not eligible and smart enough for Grandfather to be trusted with the company Brother." She countered back with a smirk, making Jihan clech his jaw.
He always hated how everything was always about Jiwon and never him.
"Shut up. You don't know shit." He replied with a frown, jaw clenched from anger.
"As if you do. You know yourself you're going low by doing this Jihan." She chuckled, mocking him.
"Fine! So what if I'm going low? Was I ever high enough for Mother and Grandpa to see me?" He barked, but Jiwon just sighed. She had enough of his bullshit.
"Enough with your crying, what do you want Jihan?" She asked, knowing he was crazy enough to actually try and destroy her, even though he never can.
"What do I want? Simple. The company. Break off your engagement with him, and let me have the position." He stated, the same knowing smirk appearing back on his face.
"Break off- what? You think I will?" She yelled in offence, eyes wide from his audacity.
Who does he think he is?
"Oh look at you all mad. You think you have a choice here sister? If you don't do as I say, watch your dear love lose his company to me then." He mocked, laughing at her face.
"You-" his words left Jiwon speechless.
What could she say against it? Jihan was one sly man when it came to playing dirty games and backstabbing, so she was not surprised...but this was too much.
"Look, I'll give you the position, I'm not breaking it off with him-"
"Nope. Grandpa won't budge until you do something crazy. Break off your engagement or I leak this. Yeonjun's future is in your hands now." He smirked, and started walking off while laughing a laugh of victory, knowing things would easily go his way now.
"You have tonight's time. Or else you know what happens dear sis."
"Damn it. This fucking bastard... what do I do?"
Jiwon sighed, leaning against the door as her head started spinning; wondering what was she gonna do now.
"How do I break it off with Yeonjun? Will he understand?"
+Γ+
"Hello Yeonjun? can we please talk in our spot? I have something important to tell you." Jiwon dialed Yeonjun's number with trembling hands, as she drove to the park where laid numerous of their memories.
She had a plan.
She knew Jihan was a little bitch, and if she tried to outsmart him right now by telling Yeonjun, he would somehow know...so that's why, she appointed some sources to tail Jihan and get that chip while she ordered Jaemi to reach grandfather before Jihan; in the hospital and spill everything to him as soon as possible.
"I'm not losing Yeonjun so easily, nor the position."
And that's how her plan went. Just like she had called Yeonjun, he was standing there, waiting for her with an enthusiastic smile and she immediately felt guilty for what she was about to do right now.
But she had no choice.
She didn't have much time, once she does this and distracts Jihan's attention (yes she saw that little piece of shit following her with a disguised family car, he's not so slick) she will order the men she appointed to get him and have her way with him.
"I'm breaking off our engagement Yeonjun. I never loved you, I'm sorry. I agreed for the marriage just so I could inherit the company position. Grandfather signed the papers, and now I don't need you anymore. You were too foolish to trust me."
With those words, she wasted no time and threw off the engagement ring in the nearby grass, so she could easily find it tomorrow morning. Perfect!
"I'm sorry for doing this to you Junie, but wait for me. I'll be back to you..."
She left the scene, keeping her heart strong and not looking back, avoiding the urge to wrap her arms around her lover. Just this once...
+Γ+
"You're a disgrace to our family Jihan! Get him, g-get him o-out of my s-sight right n-now!"
Now, Jiwon was sitting beside her Grandfather's hospital bed, while Jihan looked down in shame, one of his cheek bruised along with a black eye he had gotten yesterday night from the fight with the guys Jiwon had appointed to catch him.
Yes. Jiwon had successfully retrived back the chip, and spilled everything to their grandfather.
"Shame on you! If you weren't my grandson, I would kick you out of the company right now! Get out!" Her grandfather continue to shower him with profanities and words of shame, while she left with a proud smirk, the engagement ring she threw yesterday already in her finger once again.
"Yeonjun would be so amazed to know all this..."
Or would he?
"Ma'am, Mr.Choi isn't at his office."
"I'm sorry Ma'am, Mr.Choi isn't home."
"The number you have dialed, is out of network coverage area."
"Fuck, this can't be happening! I need to reach him!!"
No matter how much she tried...Yeonjun had cut off all contact with her.
She tried to contact him a whole week, yet no answer, no trace.
Yeonjun took it serious, and everything went downhill.
She lost Yeonjun in a cold December night, watching him melt away from her fingertips just like a fragile snowflake.
Once gone, can't be retrived back.
(Back to present)
"S-so, you're telling me...it was n-not true? You never meant those words that night?" Yeonjun mumbled, tears freely falling down his eyes now.
He didn't know if it was the alcohol that made him feel this light-headed and miserable, or Jiwon's words.
It was like his world was flipped upside down. What he thought he knew all this time, was a lie...and the regrets and what ifs were hitting him now.
Jiwon nodded, taking a shaky breath. "Yeah... I... I never meant those words, you know that... I never, not even for a second, wanted to break up with you. I was just trying to protect you."
She bit her lip to hold her tears back, the alcohol making her a little more emotional than usual. "But you left... you left and never looked back, never even gave me a chance to explain."
Yeonjun exhaled deeply, his expression filled with pain and confusion. "How was I supposed to know... that you didn't mean it?"
He clenched his fists tightly, fighting back the tears that were welling up in his eyes again. "Seeing you throw that ring away... it broke me... I thought you didn't love me."
"I know..."
She swallowed her tears, tearing her gaze away from him, heart finally feeling a lot lighter after getting the closure she desperately needed.
"None of us can be blamed here...time and situation was cruel to us. Maybe, we were just not meant to be, I guess?"
She chuckled, a small smile appearing on her face.
Yeonjun took a deep breath, as the memories of the past replayed in his mind. "Yeah...maybe we weren't meant to be."
He chuckled too, a bittersweet smile on his lips. "But you know... we did have some good times, didn't we?"
He looked over at her, nostalgia filling his heart. "I still remember the day we first met, we were just naive kids. God...it's been so long."
"Right? We were the chaotic bestie duo."
She chuckled as well, reminiscing back on their childhood.
"Feels surreal to see you sitting here for work purpose. The same coward kid I used to scare."
She chuckled, the alcohol making her words flow easily.
"God, I missed my bestfriend.."
She whispered, looking at him fondly. She may not love him romantically anymore, but the care never left, the care for her childhood bestfriend.
Yeonjun chuckled at her words. "Still as bratty as ever."
He smiled warmly at her, the nostalgia running through his veins. "And you were still the most fearless and protective girl I've ever known."
There was a hint of sadness in his eyes as he met hers, reminiscing the innocent days of their past. "I missed you too... so much. It's been five years yet...it feels like I didn't even say a proper goodbye to you that night."
"Yeah...so I guess we put a band-aid on our wounds tonight, didn't we?"
She whispered, smiling softly at him. Finally, she felt like she had her bestfriend back...
She truly missed his presence.
"Yeah...it feels like closure, doesn't it?"
Yeonjun smiled back at her, a mixture of sadness and nostalgia in his eyes. "Who would have thought we would be having this conversation... after all these years."
He chuckled softly, the alcohol making him a little more open and vulnerable. "I never thought I would get a chance to talk to you again... to be able to just...sit and talk, like this."
"Right..."
She nodded in agreement, looking at him.
"What about your marriage? Will you finally introduce Beomgyu to me?"
She asked teasingly, remebering the last time she saw Yeonjun in his office when Beomgyu had called.
"Beomgyu? Maybe I finally will..." He giggled, totally drunk now, the alcohol getting to him.
"Speaking of him, he must be wondering w-where I a-am. He m-must miss me.." he giggled from the effect of alcohol, a big smile plastered on his face talking about his husband.
She could tell Yeonjun was visibly drunk now, his usual composure replaced with a goofy grin and slurred speech.
Hearing him talk about Beomgyu with such affection and drunken affection made her heart warm. "Aww, you're so drunk."
She couldn't help but chuckle at his state, finding it endearing how much he cared about Beomgyu. "Yeah, I'm sure he misses you. But I think you should call him to come and pick you up. You're in no state to drive now, mister."
"Right, yes... I should call Beomie," Yeonjun giggled, his words becoming more slurred and incoherent as he fumbled with his phone.
He tried to find Beomgyu's contact, but his fingers didn't seem to co-operate as he muttered curses under his breath. "Damn it... where's the contacts?.. stupid phone..."
He eventually gave up and looked at her helplessly, still giggling like a drunken fool. "Can you call him for me...his contact is name is "My Husband" with a bear emoji!" He instructed, his head dropping to the table already.
She couldn't help but chuckle at his drunken state, amused by his futile attempts to call Beomgyu.
"Okay, okay, give me your phone, you drunk mess," she said softly, taking the phone from him and quickly finding the "My husband" contact with the bear emoji.
She pressed the call button and held the phone to his ear, while he chuckled and leaned his head against her shoulder, clearly intoxicated.
After a 5 second ring, Beomgyu picked up the call, and Yeonjun's eyes lit up, while he took a hold of his phone, giggling and mumbling a " Hii Darling~" on the phone, clearly sounding drunk, along with the chuckling of another woman clear on the call.
Beomgyu's eyes widened hearing Yeonjun's drunk voice and the female laughter; his voice tinged with worry as he asked, "Yeonjun where are you? It's almost mindnight..."
"Me? With Jiwonie. I missed her so much, but I miss you moree, will you pick me up?"
"Jiwonie? Who's Jiwon?"
