The night was dark and ominous, the sky blanketed with thick, gray clouds that threatened to burst with every passing moment. The wind was relentless, whistling through the trees like a ghostly choir. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth, mingled with the occasional acrid smell of ozone. Every few moments, the sky was illuminated with a dazzling display of lightning, followed by a boom of thunder that seemed to shake the very ground beneath.
A rather loud rumble of thunder echoed across the pitch black sky, making goosebumps rise on Beomgyu's skin. The electricity had been cut off an hour ago, and it was raining heavily outside, with no trace of stopping anytime soon.
The wind was knocking on Beomgyu's window, along with the loud thunder rattling into the far fetched sky making Beomgyu feel rather uncomfortable. He was never really a fan of the rain, especially thunderstorms, and darkness was his childhood enemy.
So, a night so miserable like this was the worst fears of Beomgyu combined all together.
"Where is Yeonjun even?" Beomgyu thought, sitting on his bed, the soft material of the fluffy blanket doing little to nothing to hide his fear from darkness.
The last remaining candle in the house was on the verge of extinguishing and Beomgyu was growing anxious by each passing second. He didn't have the amount of courage needed to navigate into the pitch black darkness of the basement and go turn on the invertor, neither was his phone cooperating; having a charge left of 15% because Beomgyu may or may not have taken the stupid decision of scrolling through YouTube shorts to divert his mind from the Darkness around him and gotten his phone discharged.
"Damned Rain and damned power-cut. When will they fix it?" Beomgyu cursed under his breathe, tapping his fingers against the headboard of the bed, watching the candle shrink further into nothingness but melted wax on his table.
"Shit..no no." Beomgyu prayed to every god out there, for either making Yeonjun come back home or provide the electricity, but ofcourse, the creator was mocking his pathetic situation and the candle went off, making the room covered in a blanket of Darkness.
"Fuck." Profanities flowed through Beomgyu's lips like a river, as he rummaged around for his phone, watching it die down to 10%. Great. Now he can't turn on the flashlight because it went to super-power saving mode.
He's utterly doomed.
His heart-rate started picking up, his hands growing cold as his brain started creating images which didn't exist, the lack of vision not making it any better for him.
Beomgyu gulped, his throat suddenly feeling dry, as he pulled the blanket over his head, dread washing over his whole being. The darkness was slowly seeping into his vision, making his heart thud with a fear of the unknown and lurking shadows. A sudden rumble of the thunder made him shriek loudly, as he grasped his phone tightly in his hands.
"I-its okay Beomgyu. Darkness can't do anything to you. Calm down, you're a grown man." Beomgyu tried to console himself, but a suspicious sound of something falling in the kitchen made his ears perk up again.
"What was that?" Now he lost it completely. All attempts of calming down went down the drain, as Beomgyu started imagining the worst scenario possible.
Was there a ghost? A monster maybe? Or worse, was he gonna get murdered by some serial killer today? He shouldn't have married Yeonjun, so many people must be behind him for his money, and tonight he'll be sacrificing his life to some murderer, great.
"Yeonjun please come back soon! God damn it!" Beomgyu pleaded to the empty air, already on the verge of tears. He was alone, it was dark, he couldn't see anything. Was he going to die like this? He didn't wish to die so soon.
"When is this going to end?" An involuntary whimper escaped his lips, emerging into full-blown crying and sobbing as he curled up into a ball with the blanket wrapped around his head, closing his eyes tightly as he tried to calm down his racing heart.
He fiddled with the ring Yeonjun had given him, yet it did nothing to help his anxiety. He felt like he was losing his mind, the darkness mocking his vulnerability and helplessness.
Beomgyu was about to go into a spiral of fear and anxiety again, but a sound caught his attention.
The sound of door lock beeping and unlocking.
Which meant only one thing.
Yeonjun was home.
Relief washed over Beomgyu like a stream of cold water in a scorching hot summer day.
He quickly threw the blanket aside, getting out of the bed and making slow and careful steps out of the bedroom, which was suffocating him for so long.
His heart was thudding wildly against his chest, and all he desired right now was to see Yeonjun and not be alone in this misery.
"Beomgyu? Hey I'm bac-"
"What took you so long?"
Before Yeonjun could say anything more, he was trapped into a tight hug, almost making him lose his balance and give in to gravity, but he balanced himself, and the man in his arms, who was somehow shaking violently. Shit, he was late wasn't he?
"Gyu? Hey you okay?" Concern overpowered whatever Yeonjun was feeling before, his only focus being calming the smaller in his arms.
"Stop crying, you're a grown man." Yeonjun said, but this time his words had no bite to it. He put down the plastic bag in his hand, wrapping it around Beomgyu instead, who was clinging to him like a Koala.
"S-sorry, I don't do well with Darkness. I'm scared." Beomgyu mumbled in between his sniffles, holding onto Yeonjun feeling safe and relieved in the older's embrace.
"Don't be. I'm here now." Yeonjun couldn't help but feel bad and worried for Beomgyu, slowly caressing Beomgyu's slightly longer black hair, carding his fingers through the silky locks, slowly walking inside with Beomgyu still wrapped around him.
Hearing Yeonjun's reassurance, Beomgyu calmed down a little, his heart-rate coming back to normal as he felt safe and protected in the older's hold.
"Let me turn on the lights atleast." Yeonjun replied, patting Beomgyu's head softly, to which Beomgyu nodded his head, letting the older go so he could turn on the lights.
"God he's such a menance." Yeonjun muttered to himself, a small smile playing on his lips. The way Beomgyu ran to him as if he was his safe place, why did that action make his heart thump a little louder than normal?
Was the formula Beomgyu applying to solve Yeonjun's feelings for him taking effect? If yes, then Beomgyu was surely going to get his answer "hence proved" very soon.
