Hiccup, now a small child, watches anxiously as his father sat in their living room, his head in his hands and armor disheveled. Across from him, sat (F/N), a small bundle of blankets draped across his lap, (Y/N) happily nuzzling into her fathers chest, snoring softly.

Hiccup glances towards his friend, the latter unknowingly humming a small tune as she fiddles with her fingers, her eyes closed as they all sat in silence.

The small boy bites his lip, about to turn and retreat back to his room, but stops halfway when the wood below him creaks loudly, causing both Stoick and (F/N) to snap their heads in his direction.

"Son.." Stoick greets, taking in a deep breath before facing him. "You should be asleep."

"I was thirsty.." Hiccup mumbles, looking down and taking small steps towards his father. He glances towards the Commander, smiling nervously as they lock eyes.

The man nods his head in greeting, shifting slightly as to not wake his daughter.

"Come here, my son."

Hiccup grins, leaving his dragon stuffed toy and rushing over to his dad. Stoick scoops him up, setting him on his lap. He hands the blowpoke to Hiccup, helping him keep the fire going.

"Dad?" Hiccup says after a moment, gaining Stoick's attention. "Are you gonna get us a new mom?"

(F/N)'s eyes widen at the question, his eyes meeting Stoick's before he bows his head, blocking out their conversation and tending to his child.

Stoick inhales, sighing heavily and hugging the boy before lightly kissing his head. "I don't want another." Stoick shakes his head before smiling fondly. "Your mom was the only woman for me. She was the love of my life."

Hiccup watches the flames, Stoick gently swaying side to side. "But with love comes loss, son. It's..part of the deal. Sometimes it hurts, but, in the end...it's all worth it."

Stoick shifts Hiccup onto his other leg, looking down at him with a sad smile. "There's no greater gift than love."

Stoick pauses, glancing towards his Commander and smirking slightly at the man's dazed expression.

"It's like what you have with (Y/N)." Stoick speaks up, (F/N)'s eyes widening as he stares at his Chief. Hiccup tilts his head, craning his neck and staring at the small head of (H/C) hair peeking out from beneath the blankets.

"(Y/N)'s my friend.." he mumbles, squinting his eyes as he continues to stare at the small girl. (F/N) raises a brow, waiting for the boy to continue.

"..but I do..love her.." he finished, nodding his head happily. "Oh, do you now?" (F/N) teases, a slow smirk spreading across his face. "Well I hope you come to me when you wish to marry her!" He laughs, Stoick chuckling as Hiccup frowns at the statement.

"But I'd never marry (Y/N).."

(F/N) raises a brow, "Well maybe not now, but when you figure out your feelings..let me know?" He asks, his voice soft and humbling.

Of course neither of the two men thought that their children would ever get together, let alone get married. It was highly unlikely, a silly thought that they found quite amusing.

Hiccup nods understandingly, blinking slowly, he hums gently, looking back at his dad, watching him silently.

Stoick smiles down at his son, ruffling his head gently before going back and tending to the fire. They all sat their that night, the crackling of the fire being the only noise that broke through the silence.

...

Hiccup looks ahead, his eyebrows furrowed and a frown settling on his features. (Y/N) looks over at him in concern before looking down at (D/N), her heart heavy.

Toothless groans sadly, (D/N) huffing over at him while shaking his head. Toothless grumbles back, making Stormfly squawk for them both to stop.

They fly closer to the island, Stormfly flying ahead as Hiccup and (Y/N) land further on the cliffside. (Y/N) climbs down from (D/N), running her hand along his neck, sighing heavily before walking ahead.

Toothless continues to groan sadly, (D/N)'s ears drooped as he sighs. He walks over to Toothless, sitting besides him and looking out, both dragons sulking.

Hiccup gently grabs two of (Y/N)'s fingers, almost as if he let go, he'd start crying. "It's okay, buds." Hiccup sighs, forcing a smile. "You both belong there. With them."

"But we don't." (Y/N) finishes, (D/N) tilting his head with a low rumble. "And..that's all right." Hiccup manages out, setting his hand on the side of Toothless' face.

"We'll find a way to-"

A chitter their attention, (D/N) peeking up and swiftly turning to the sound. Both the Woolly Howl and Light Fury emerge from the fall grass, their heads low and eyes wide.

"Hey!" Hiccup laughs, flinching as Toothless licks his cheek. "They followed us back!"

(Y/N) chuckles, lightly petting (D/N) as he nuzzles into her for a moment, swiftly chasing after Toothless down the hill.Β  The Light Fury chitters, playfully tackling Toothless.

The Howl squeaks as (D/N) rushes to her, nuzzling his face into hers with small rumbles. "We might not have to say goodbye after all!" Hiccup sighs in relief, (Y/N) grinning uncontrollably.

Astrid jogs down the hill, meeting her friend in the middle, her eyes wide as she stares at the four dragons, a wide grin spreading across her face.

(Y/N) releases a breath she didn't know she was holding, a tear escaping her eye as she slumps forward, wrapping her arms around Hiccup's waist from behind and pressing her face into his shoulder.

Hiccup sighs happily, his head tilting back and pressing his cheek against (Y/N)'s head, his heart beating softly against his chest.

"That's it," Hiccup gently says as the dragons stalk closer. (Y/N)'s smile falls when she notices (D/N)'s pupils turn to slits, his teeth slowly baring and a low rumble coming from his throat.

"Whoo-hoo!" Ruffnut suddenly yells, lazily landing with the Nadder behind the three. "Yeah!" She laughs, jumping from its back.

"Miss me?"

"Ruffnut?" Astrid questions in disbelief. "How did you escape?" (Y/N) asks, her brows furrowed as she watches the Nadder look around nervously, occasionally glancing behind her every few minutes.

"I annoyed them till they let me go," Ruffnut replies, swinging her braids as she strolls confidently, a smirk plastered on her face.

"Wait, wait," Hiccup shakes his head, looking back at (Y/N) before facing Ruffnut.

"Grimmel let you go?"

"So dumb," Ruffnut cackles, waving her braids. "They couldn't handle me." She turns as she starts rambling. "See, everyone thinks Tuffnut's more annoying, but.."

(Y/N) interrupts, her voice frantic. "Did you check to see if anyone was following you?!"

"..I never look back, (Y/N)."

Hiccup felt dread wash over him, his eyes widening as he gasps. "Oh, no!" (Y/N) races down the hill, Hiccup quickly following as Astrid rushes to get the others.

"(D/N)! Toothless! You need to go!!" (Y/N) yells, (D/N)'s head jerking towards her. His eyes widen as he roars, the others looking back at him.

The Light Fury sniffs at the air before roaring, taking off flying. She looks back, whimpering as a dart strikes her neck.

The Howl roars, flying up to her falling form. She slows her fall, crashing with her with a groan of pain as Toothless and (D/N) race to them.

"Come back!" Hiccup shouts as the two males race away, closer to Grimmel's trap.

"No!"

The Woolly Howl wobbles as she rises, hissing when she sees Grimmel. He aims his crossbow, firing at her as she lunges for him.Β  It strikes her neck, making her roar in warning before collapsing.

(D/N) roars, snorting and charging faster with Toothless at his side. Toothless rushes through the grass, preparing a plasma ball as Grimmel fires, striking his shoulder.

Toothless roars, steam hissing from his mouth as he collapses. He then fires at (D/N), his eyes widening as he misses, (D/N)'s teeth barred.

"Stop!" (Y/N) shouts, staggering lightly as she and Hiccup continue racing down to them.

(D/N) appears with a low growl, ready to lunge at the man. Grimmel carefully watches him before aiming at the Howl with his crossbow.

"If I were you, I'd behave." He threatens, (D/N) panting in anger.

"I hear it's deadly."

(D/N)'s eyes widen as he growls, slowly rising with a hiss. "Very good." Grimmel mocks,
(D/N) glaring sharply at him as he starts to tie the dragons to his machine.

"Grimmel!" Hiccup shouts in a rage, the two nearly to him as he finishes adjusting the straps. The Deathgrippers roar as they start flying off, Grimmel holding onto the chain.

(D/N) flies at Toothless' side, looking between the three in concern before watching Grimmel in a silent rage.

(Y/N) cries out at Grimmel and the others go higher, out of their reach. "And now our little game must come to an end!" Grimmel speaks as he climbs up, resting on a rope.

The island's dragons all roar as they rush to their friends sides, Skullcrusher leading them.
"Call them off, Alpha!" Grimmel warns, aiming the crossbow at (D/N). "No need for your friend to die."

Toothless groans weakly, lifting his head, he growls at the dragons, his eyes wide and desperate, pleading for them to stay away.

...

(D/N) roars softly, looking back, he locks eyes with a terrified (Y/N), her hands pulled to her mouth as tears stream down her cheeks.

...

The dragons all back away, their heads tilted in confusion as they watch their friends be taken away.

"What are they doing?!" Soul out shouts, him and the rest joining Hiccup and (Y/N). "They could totally take him!!"

"Toothless won't risk (D/N) or the other two,"
Hiccup disagrees, shaking his head. Snotlout's eyes widen, his fists shaking as he shakes his head.

"No way, I'm going up their and-!" He backs away, his voice raised just as another cuts through the air.

"Snotlout!"

The group all jump at the voice. Turning their heads, their met with an enraged (Y/N), her eyes were wide. The edges red from all her crying and breaths uneven.

"If you interfere in any way.." she mumbles, turning her body fully and glaring daggers at the frightened boy. "..they will die!" She shouts, her friend flinching at her harshness. Hiccup grabs her hand, his voice soft as they both lock eyes.

He shakes his head softly, silently telling her that now wasnet the time. (Y/N) breaths deep, her face red as she looks up, her shoulders slumped in defeat.

...

"Aw, don't feel too badly!" Grimmel snickers, removing his hood as he looks down at the group. "You tried your best! But...you are nothing without your dragon, Chief!"

Grimmel sharply whistles, the Deathgrippers flying to the front of the herd. He starts flying off, Toothless calling for them to follow. (D/N) looks back at (Y/N) with a whine, following Toothless.

"(D/N)!!" (Y/N) yells, rushing ahead as Hiccup follows her, quickly grabbing her arm as they reach the cliffside.

...

Hiccup slowly releases (Y/N)'s arm, gripping at his hair in frustration as he begins pacing. (Y/N) sniffs, wiping her eyes furiously as she watches them fly away.

"Oh, that is just great. Now what?" Tuffnut sighs angrily. "I think it's time for number two to become number one," Snotlout mumbles.

(Y/N) let's out a soft sigh as Hiccup continues to pace, his mind racing. A gentle hand touches her shoulder, making her jump.

"He'll listen to you," Valka encourages, (M/N) nodding to her daughter with a small and encouraging smile.

She nods slowly, walking towards Hiccup's pacing form. He looks over at (Y/N), shaking his head and looking away. "Don't, (Y/N)." Hiccup snaps, making her pause.

"Don't..what?"

"Don't..just.." Hiccup trails off before he yells in frustration. "Don't comfort me! This is all my fault. I should have been more careful, and shouldn't have made you fly us out there."

"It was my call." She counters, her brows pulled together as she watches him sigh heavily.

"I practically encouraged it by being totally useless without Toothless! If I didn't ask you to fly out there, (D/N) and Toothless wouldn't have flown us back, and the Howl and Light Fury wouldn't have followed."

Hiccup growls in anger, jerking his hand.
"I'm still the same screwup I was before I met Toothless! And you-!"

"Hey!" She shouts, gaining his attention. "You are a lot of things, but you have never been a screwup!" She yells, Hiccup's eyes brimming with tears.

"..I have watched you..watched you doubt whether you're worthy our entire lives! Worthy of being Chief, of Toothless.."

Her voice wavers, cracking slightly due to how hard she was shouting. "Of course your worthy, your bloody amazing!" Hiccup's eyes widen, (Y/N) throwing her arms up in exasperation.

"You've changed our entire village, for the better might I add!" Hiccup chuckles dryly, his eyes still downcast. (Y/N) gently cups his cheeks, bringing his face up, they lock eyes.

"You are so brave, strong, incredibly smart.." she chuckles gently, small tears leaking from her eyes. "Toothless didn't give you that. Just like (D/N) didn't give me any of my traits." She continues, "They just.."

"Made it easier." Hiccup finishes, small sniffles comming from him. (Y/N) smiles back before frowning, looking out towards the ships.

"And now..it's a lot harder.."

"So what are you two going to do about it?Astrid speaks up jokingly, making (Y/N) grin and turn to her tiredly.

Hiccup hums in thought before shrugging.

"Probably something stupid."

"Good!" Astrid nods as she folds her arms, Valka and (M/N) chuckling. (Y/N) smiles, her eyes drooping from the events of today.

Hiccup smiles, gently taking her hand before pressing a kiss to her forehead, then turning to the others.

"Suit up, gang! We're going to get them back."

"What?" Fishlegs mumbles as we approach.

"They've lost their minds."

"Now that's marriage material!" Tuffnut dramatically yells, hugging Hiccup and pulling away. "At last, faithful pupil..you are ready."

(Y/N) chuckles, watching as Hiccup puts on a serious face and nods confidently towards the boy, his mouth pulled into a thin line.

"Uh..how are we gonna get our dragons back without dragons?" Fishlegs meekly asks, joining them with a nervous look.

"Trust us." Hiccup replies, a wide smirk on his face as (Y/N) turns to the rest of her friends.

"We've got this.."
