The chase
ELOISE RAN.
As if she had never run before. The dark forest surrounded her, the darkness covering her identity, with her gift helping her end any trace or proof that she, Eloise Hareton.
Is in the deepest part of the forest, located in Cullen territory.
She was catching up; she was behind schedule. She didn't mean to. Peter informed her that a vampire was carelessly making newborns in Seattle. She decided that she needed to see the damage for herself.
It was nothing new for her; it was a riddle easily solved.
It was either for revenge or power, but it was eventually both from her experience.
As she runs, she eventually catches up with Alice, with the latter nodding and Eloise quickly changing her appearance and removing her scent.
She was now beside Emmett, who was too focused on gaining on Victoria to notice that another unknown vampire was on his side. Emmett almost grabbed Victoria's fiery red hair before she took his arm and slammed him against a nearby tree.
Victoria had yet to know that another vampire was behind her. Emmett glances up, furious, then confused, until he sees an unfamiliar dark brown hair flowing with the wind. He decided to follow through with the chase.
Eloise knew before Victoria decided.
So, she slowed her pace, careful not to stay too close to the Cullens. Victoria leaped towards the Quileute territory.
"Wait!" A voice called, "She's in their territory," until they continued.
"She'll getaway!"
"No, she won't!" She hears Jasper exclaim in disagreement, and Eloise grins.
She ran behind them. The shape-shifters were gaining on Victoria's pace. Eloise knew that she'd leap again and decided to speed up her pace so that now she was beside Jasper.
It was some sort of inkling that Jasper sensed, that Eloise even knew he'd know that someone was beside him, yet Jasper felt that the person wasn't a threat based on their emotion.
The person beside him wanted to help. He continued until he caught up with Victoria, leaping in the trees until Jasper missed Victoria's direction.
Eloise didn't look back. She was so close to Victoria that even Emmett was beside her. She decided to channel all her speed when Victoria leaped towards the Quileute territory.
The Cullens were too far behind.
Eloise leaped with her until she had Victoria in her arms. She didn't expect a shape-shifter to jump in their direction.
She miscalculated.
And it took Eloise a matter of seconds to realize it.
The shape-shifter then harshly collided with them, resulting in Eloise losing her hold on Victoria. Eloise landed gracefully towards Cullen territory as Victoria landed on Quileute territory, the shape-shifter falling into the river.
"No!" Eloise exclaims until she looks at Victoria with a winning grin.
Eloise looks toward the shape-shifters and furiously yells, with her British accent thick, "You idiotic wankers!"
"El," A whisper of a voice removed her from her aggressive state. She stood frozen in place, her mind too preoccupied with the vast array of answers she should say. She'd forgotten that she was in Forks.
She was perplexed about how she was quickly recognized, so she looked at her hair, which had turned from dark brown to its original color, golden blonde.
Bloody hell. She purses her lips in frustration. The anger so engulfed her she felt towards the shifter that she overlooked her hold on her gift was loosened.
Now she wanted to be pissed off because everything was not going her own way.
Eloise turned around, seeing nine vampires with two faces she could easily recognize, while the rest she knew of but were strangers to her.
"Eloise, Eloise Hareton," As her eyes scanned each facial feature and one who was eagerly trying to stop herself from interrupting Eloise's introduction.
They recognized her name and said, "All the pleasure, I'm sure." She continued with gentle courtesy.
"Eloise!" Alice exclaims excitedly as she runs towards Eloise at an inhuman pace. Alice wraps her arms around Eloise's waist, with the latter hugging in return, with a relieved smile at receiving such a warm greeting.
Then, she heard a rather displeased growl from the other side of the ravine. Before Carlisle could speak and mediate the shape-shifters, Jasper spoke up, his voice commanding yet poised, and Eloise was sure it would end any argument.
"She's with us. Your presence is no longer needed or appreciated. So, leave."
Eloise looked behind her shoulder again as the wolves eyed her warily.
They were about to leave until Eloise gave them a mischievous grin, turning her topaz eyes into their actual color. This deep crimson red almost illuminated the night.
Eloise winked. She's having fun provoking them.
Receiving an angry growl that the pack was ready to attack, that another threat of a blood-sucking vampire was in Forks, alerted their senses.
"She's in our territory if you have forgotten, Sam," Carlisle calmly stated the obvious as the rest of the family moved toward Eloise and Alice's direction. "She is not a threat."
Eloise removes Alice's hold on her arm, with Alice moving backward towards Cordelia's direction.
Eloise turns around and faces the shape-shifter's direction, saying, "Need not worry. I promise not to harm any humans during my time in Forks with the Cullens. Don't get your knickers in a twist now, yeah?"
The shapeshifters gave her one last aggressive growl until they ran and disappeared through the forest.
"Let's give them their privacy, everyone?" The brunette woman says. Eloise looks towards her, head tilting to the side.
This must be Thalia, the one Alice told her was a new addition to the family. Eloise gives her an appreciative smile.
Then the rest of the family was gone instantly, leaving only Jasper behind.
"Hi," Eloise says shyly, cursing herself silently for being nervous; this was Jasper. For God's sake, she shouldn't be shy around him. Jasper moves towards her as if they were magnets. They move together.
Jasper placed a hand on her cheek as if he was too afraid that his eyes were deceiving him. His thumb traced her jaw, tilting her head up, eyes meeting, then tracing her lips.
It was the intimacy of feeling each other that both had missed.
"Lovely as always, El," Jasper says as he places a hand on the back of her small waist. Eloise smiles, and her voice is soothing. "I'm a lovable person, as always,"
Then Jasper pulled her towards his chest. His warmth engulfed her and welcomed her. Jasper moved his hand towards the nape of her neck, his head on top of hers. Eloise reciprocated.
The calmness, relief, and even love invaded her senses, and it went to her mind that Jasper was feeling too much, that his own emotions were mixing with hers.
"I'm here, my love. I'm home."
