THE EIGHT YEARS WENT BY IN A BLINK
of an eye. Something that started with hatred from both sides of the party turned into love and admiration and lasted throughout the years without any hindrance. She was just his temporary manager who was going to work with him for just 3 months but who knew that she would end up being the love of his life and be the one he shared his love and countless memories with.
"And with that flawless spike, the victory goes to Japan!!" the commentator said and the stadium was filled with cheers. The women's volleyball team had just secured a victory in the summer Olympics.
The teammates hugged each other "Y/N! We did it!!" Haru exclaimed and engulfed Y/N in a tight hug who was still in utter shock. She had just scored the winning point for her team. She couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with emotions. The moment was almost parallel to the time of her national tournament, she didn't mess up this time and the place she was standing at that point was far more greater and overwhelming.
"We did it Haru, we won!" Y/N cheered and joined her team in the celebration. "A dependable captain like Y/N is all we need in order to win!!" Mina exclaimed.
"Did you see it, Sae? I did it!" She thought to herself. Everyone exchanged handshakes with the other team and walked over to their locker rooms in order to get changed for the award ceremony.

"So... are you done lying to my daughter?" Y/N's dad asked as he peeked over Sae's shoulder and read the chats between the two which made him flinch and shut his phone off. "You shouldn't read someone's chats like that!" Sae complained and Y/N's dad shrugged as he continued to watch the television and cheer for his daughter wearing a jersey with her name on it and waving banners inside the house. "My daughter was incredible! I am so proud of her!!"
"But what were you lying to Y/N about? You aren't cheating on her right?!" Y/N's mom asked and Sae shook his head sideways without wasting a second. "I am not cheating on her!"
"You better not!" Y/N's dad added and Sae chuckled nervously before he turned down the volume of the television which caught the attention of both of Y/N's parents "What's wrong?"
"Sir, Ma'am... I wanted to ask you something."
"What's with this formal tone? I don't like it." Y/N's dad stated and Sae took in a deep breath "I would like to marry Y/N!!" As the words left Sae's mouth, there was a moment of silence in the room as Y/N's parents processed what they had just heard. Y/N's mom looked surprised but pleased, while her dad wore a stern expression, contemplating the request. "You guys aren't married yet?" He stated leaving Sae dumbfounded as he questioned his own hearing skills "Huh? sorry what?"
"Honey, they aren't married" Y/N's mom reminded and that information made him question his whole life. "I must've dreamt about them then..." he mumbled to himself. Y/N's mom tried to suppress a laugh at her husband's misunderstanding, but she managed to compose herself.
"Um, no, we're not married," Sae finally replied, a mixture of surprise and amusement evident on his face. "We've been in a committed relationship for eight years, and we love each other deeply," Sae explained. "But we haven't taken that step yet. I wanted to ask for your blessing before officially proposing to Y/N."
Y/N's mom smiled warmly at Sae. "That's thoughtful of you. We appreciate you coming to us first."
Y/N's dad nodded, now fully aware of the situation. "But I have already accepted you as my son-in-law! You'll still be my son-in-law if Y/N rejects you!" He cheered and fist-bumped Sae's chest.
"So~ How do you plan on proposing to her?" Y/N's mom asked. "Well, I want to make the proposal special and meaningful for Y/N," Sae began. "We've shared so many wonderful memories together over these eight years, and every time I tried to surprise her she would always figure it out... So I want to propose to her when she least expects it to!!"
Sae continued, "So I would like your help in making this proposal come to life~"
Y/N's dad nodded and clapped "That's a nice plan indeed! Sae! You can trust me! I will help you make his proposal grand!"
Sae smiled gratefully at Y/N's dad's offer of help. "Thank you, sir! Your support means a lot to me, and I would be honored to have your help in making this proposal special for Y/N."
Y/N's mom joined in the excitement. "We're thrilled to be a part of this wonderful moment in both of your lives. It's heartwarming to see how much you care for each other."
"We've seen how much you've grown together over these years," Y/N's dad said warmly. "And I can tell how deeply you love Y/N, Sae. You're a part of our family already, and we want to make sure this proposal is everything she's ever dreamed of."
Sae nodded, feeling touched by their words. "I'll do my best to make it a moment she'll cherish forever."
But...
The preparation for the proposal wasn't going on like Sae originally planned. "Honey! It's a wedding proposal! You should've brought red balloons! Not green!"
"But green is my favourite colour..."
"Go and change them!" Y/N's mom scolded and he went back to switch the balloons. As the preparations for the proposal continued, Sae couldn't help but smile at the humorous bickering between Y/N's parents. He appreciated their involvement and dedication to making the moment perfect for their daughter. However, he also understood that the road ahead might not be as smooth as he initially thought.
Y/N's dad was eager to make the proposal grand and extravagant, while Y/N's mom seemed to be more focused on the finer details and aesthetics. Sae knew he had to strike a balance between their preferences and still keep the proposal genuine and reflective of his and Y/N's relationship.
After switching the balloons to red as requested, Sae joined Y/N's mom in arranging the decorations around the house. They meticulously placed candles, flowers, and other romantic elements to set the perfect atmosphere.
Y/N had many schedules after winning the Olympics but had already given a date to her family about her return to the house so it was pretty easy to decide the day they would arrange everything for the proposal and as the time was ticking, Sae couldn't help but feel nervous.
He had chosen the ring a while back but backed off from doing it every time until now when he thought that he was finally ready and had the courage to do so. "Y/N, will you marry me?" He asked.
"Yes~ I will~" Y/N's dad said while mimicking her voice only for Sae to shut the box and keep it back in his pocket "I can't take him seriously" He stated and looked away while Y/N's dad stood in front of him completely offended by the comment. "I am more Y/Ning than Y/N could ever Y/N."
"It's almost time. She'll be here any minute." Y/N's mom reminded and the two men ended their playful banter only to hear some footsteps outside the main door which made them quickly take positions.
As the footsteps approached, Sae's heart pounded in his chest, his nerves getting the better of him. He wanted everything to be perfect, and he hoped that Y/N would be surprised and delighted by the proposal he had planned.
The door opened, and Y/N's dad twisted the party popper followed by a playful remark "Surprise!!" And followed by his remark, Sae showed himself as he walked out from the room but all his expectations shattered when he saw the person.
"What the fuck are you guys doing?!"
It was Y/N's sister who had just returned back home from her Olympics race. Sae's heart sank as he realized that he had been caught up in a misunderstanding. He had thought the footsteps belonged to Y/N, but it turned out to be her sister. The surprise he had meticulously planned was now unfolding in front of the wrong person.
Y/N's sister looked puzzled as she glanced between Sae, Y/N's parents, and the decorations around the house. "Did I miss something?" she asked, clearly confused. "Ah... this house is as lively as ever~" Y/N spoke up, who showed up minutes after her sister entered the house but when she saw the sight inside, she was taken aback. "What's happening?" She asked and romantic music started to play in the background which made everyone turn and look at her mom who played the music on the player.
Y/N's sister looks back at Y/N and rubs the back of her head "I guess you were supposed to enter first."
"What?" Y/N questioned, still not being able to grasp the situation well.
"Well, um, you know... CONGRATS ON WINNING THE MATCH!!" Her dad cheered and threw his hands up in the air but the decorations around the house weren't matching up with his words. Her sister let out a deep sigh and held her dad's hand while also calling out for her mom "Mom, come with me." She said and her mother followed her words right away as she took both her parents out of the house and whispered into Y/N's ear before shutting the door behind her "Enjoy~"
It was now only her and him. "Sae... you said you couldn't make it here." She mentioned and the man in front of her was too lost in his thoughts to give her a reply. She slowly walked towards him, taking in all the romantic decorations done around the house. "Did you prepare this for me?" She asked while he averted his eyes from her.
"The plan was ruined..." He mumbled and she let out a chuckle as she tried to look at his face. "Nothing's ruined. It's just me and you now." Sae finally looked at her, his eyes filled with love and affection. "You're right. It's just you and me." He took a deep breath to calm his nerves as he handed her the flowers he prepared "Firstly, congratulations on winning. You did it, my love"
"Thank you" She replied and waited for what he had to say next but looked extremely nervous. Sae took another deep breath, trying to gather his thoughts and find the right words to express his feelings. "Y/N, these past eight years with you have been the most incredible journey of my life. From the moment we met, I knew there was something special about you. You've become my best friend, my confidant, and the person I can't imagine my life without."
Y/N's heart fluttered as she listened to his heartfelt words. She had always known how much Sae loved her, but hearing him express it so sincerely made her heart swell with love for him even more.
He continued, "Every moment with you has been filled with laughter, joy, and so much love. You've supported me through thick and thin, and you've been there for me when I needed someone the most."
Sae reached into his pocket, pulling out the ring box again, and held it gently in his hand. "Y/N, I can't imagine my future without you in it. I want to share every moment, every dream, and every challenge with you. I want to be there for you as you've been there for me, to support you, to love you, and to cherish you for the rest of my life."
With tears shimmering in his eyes, he finally asked, "Y/N, will you marry me?"
Y/N's eyes filled with tears as well, feeling overwhelmed with emotions. She placed her hand over her heart, feeling it beat faster with each passing second. "Sae, you've always been the love of my life, and my answer is a resounding yes! I want to marry you and spend the rest of my life with you."
Sae's face broke into a wide smile, and relief washed over him. He slid the ring onto her finger, and it fit perfectly as if it was meant to be there all along. Y/N admired the ring, feeling the weight of the moment sinking in.
He pulled her into a warm embrace, and they held each other tightly, knowing that this was just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in their lives together. As they basked in the joy of their engagement, Y/N's sister quietly opened the door, peeking inside. Seeing the touching scene, she smiled and cheered "Finally, you guys are married!!"
Y/N and Sae turned to her, surprised and amused by her sister's mistaken announcement. "Not yet, sis," Y/N chuckled, shaking her head. "It's just an engagement for now."
"But you guys were already married in my eyes~"
"Mine too" Her dad joined in followed by her mom. "Same here!"
