Olaf and Anna continue to move around the maze of tunnels, all the while the princess bit her lip and looked around with uneasy eyes, Olaf..was unbothered.
He hums in thought. "Which lucky tunnel do we choose?" His questions remains unanswered as a light shines brightly from the left tunnel.
Both Anna and Olaf gasp and cover their eyes while the light quickly passes by them in a flurry. "You see, the dam will weaken their lands, so they will have to turn to me." A voice calls out, causing them watch with wide eyes as a statue forms.
"King Runeard, the dam, it's hurting the forest." In a puff of white, the statue finishes forming, and Anna watches with wide eyes as the late king, her grandfather, brought his sword up against an unsuspecting Northuldra Chief.
Anna brings the torch she held closer to the statue, and stares at it with sad eyes. "They've found it.."
"What is it?" Olaf whispers, a little unhinged at the statue. "The truth about the past.." Anna rasps out, and looks closer at the figures. "That's my grandfather, attacking the Northuldra leader..who, wields no weapon."
The princess sighs before shaking her head. "The dam wasnet a gift of peace. It was a trick."
Olaf frowns. "But that goes against everything Arendelle stands for.." Anna looks down at the snowman, before sinking down onto a nearby ledge. "It does..dosent it."
She looks up, and stares at the Northuldra Chief. "I know how to free the forest, I know what we have to do to set things right."
"Why do you say that so sadly?" Olaf questions with wide eyes and a frown, and Anna's voice catches in her throat. "We have to break the dam."
Olaf gasps. "But Arendelle would be flooded!"
The princess takes a moment, before looking down. "That's why everyone was forced out. To protect them, from what has to be done."
Olaf looks down, and nods before walking and setting his head gently in his friends lap. Anna feels her lips wobble as she lets her head atop his. "Are you okay?" He asks.
"I could really use a bright side, Olaf.."
The snowman panics a little as he thinks. "Bright side..um..turtles can breath through their butts?" Anna only frowns more. She hums in question, but stops as Olaf smiles and points.
"And! I see a way out." Looking up, Anna smiles slightly at a small passage at the top of a few rocks stacked atop eachother, forming a rather odd staircase. "I knew I could count on you Olaf." She complements, before getting up and making a beeline for the exit.
Olaf takes a step but stops as his head begins to blur. He shakes his head and groans, while Anna continues to walk ahead.
"Come one, Olaf!" She urges. "Espen and (Y/N) are probably on their way back right now! We can meet them and-!" She stops as a snowflake passes by her face, then another, and another.
"Olaf?" Turning around, Anna watches with wide eyes as the little snowman's body shone just a little bit as little snowflakes moves around him. "What's this?" He asks with a smile. "Are you okay?" Anna asks urgently, to which Olaf responds with a smile.
"I'm flurrying?" He stops his thought. "Wait, no that-that's not it..I'm flurrying..away."
His voice cracks just a bit as he speaks. "The magic in me is, fading!" Anna gasps. "What?" Taking a slow step, the princess bends down to her small friends height, and watches as his face sinks.
"I don't think Espen and (Y/N) are okay."
"I think..they may have gone to far.." Olaf realizes, and frowns as Anna shakes her head. "Anna.." he says softly, "I'm sorry..you're gonna have to do this next part on your own. Okay?"
The princess grabs his shoulders and shakes her head. "Wait, come here." She gently takes him into her arms, and cradles his hand as his eyes begin to loose their shine. "I've got you.."
Olaf chuckles tiredly. "That's good." He takes a moment to stare at her, before speaking again. "I just thought of one thing that's permanent.." Anna replies with a broken smile. "What's that?"
"Love.."
To this the princess releases a chocked laugh. "Warm hugs?" She asks and quickly squeezes her friend tight to her chest while she sobs.
Olaf smiles one last time before releasing his final breath, and whispering. "I like warm hugs.."
Anna chuckles softly as she hears this, and presses her cheek against his forehead. "I love you." She mumbles, hoping that the words reaches him before he left her completely.
...
The flurry of snow all gather outside of the cave, and spark to life as the small salamander watches them with a head tilt and wide eyes.
They begin to gather together in a large cloud, and the small creature whines before curling up into itself and watching its companion disappear with a low frown.
The wind spirit chitters as it gathers the snow and pulls it towards a small nook in behind the waterfall that flowed out of the caves mouth. The snow gently settles into a small lump, with purple flowers surrounding it.
...
The sun had begun to rise as the early hours of morning came and the night had gone.
Anna sniffles when she feels the small source of light touch her skin. She clutched her bag to her chest, and listens as the water drops onto the side of the caves walls. "Olaf? Espen? (Y/N)? What do I do now?" She whimpers.
She sucks in a shaky breath, and opens her tired eyes to stare at the ground beneath her feet.
"I've seen dark before, but not like this.."
A tear slips past her cheek.
"This is cold, this is empty, this is numb."
Anna grips her bag closer.
"The life I knew is over, the lights are out, yellow darkness, I'm ready to succumb."
Her back remains turned as she hunches over.
"I follow you around, I always have. But you've gone to a place I cannot find."
Slowly, she uncurls herself and stretches her legs.
"This grief..has a gravity, it pulls me down."
Stopping for a moment, she allows herself to cry one last time.
"But a tiny voice, whispers in my mind."
Tears stray just at the corners of her eyes while she looks down.
"You are lost, hope is gone. But you must..go on."
Anna closes her eyes as she feels a tear slip and roll down her chin, before stretching her legs out more and looking up to the ceiling.
"And do, the next right thing."
She weakly moves her body, and remains on her feet as her legs refuse to move from their tired state.
"Can there be a day beyond this night? I don't know, anymore, what is true.."
Anna shakes her head as she feels the ground beneath the pads of her fingers.
"I can't find my direction, I'm all alone. The only star that guided me was you."
She leans back and moves her feet, but grunts as she pushes herself up.
"How to rise from the floor, when it's not you I'm rising for? Just do, the next right thing."
Anna rises from the gravel, before wrapping her satchel around her shoulder and looking up with determined eyes at the exit mere feet away from her.
"Take a step, step again. It is all that I can.
Leaning against a rock, Anna shuts her eyes before pulling herself up and towards the light.
"To do the next right thing."
Carefully she maneuvers around the rocks, and looks up.
"I won't look to far ahead. It's to much for me to take."
She shudders, and pulls her self up before growing at a large gap between her and the exit.
"But break it down to this next breath, this next step. This next choice is the one that I can make!"
Anna takes off into a sprint, and launches herself into the air. She lands on her hands and knees, but dosnet stop as she continues forward.
"So I'll walk through this night, stumbling blindly towards the light."
The exit is near now, as Anna stares at it with determination and dry tears.
"And do the next right thing."
She makes it out, before clutching her satchel close to her chest while walking towards the cliffs edge that overlooked the dam her grandfather built.
"And with the dawn, what comes then?"
With a glare and her head down, Anna stomps her foot.
"That everything will never be the same agin!"
She sighs deeply after a moment, her cheeks stained with fear but not long forgotten.
"Then I'll make the voice, to hear that voice."
Looking up at the sky, Anna nods to shiver was listening, while her eyes slowly softened.
"And do, the next right thing.."
Finally, Anna looks towards the dam that had started this whole story in the first place. She wastes no time in sprinting down the hill, a clever, but also dangerous, plan set in her mind.
...
Anna pants as she runs through the woods, before stopping as she enters a clearing. She stares at the large beast infront of her, and sucks in a deep breath.
"Wake up!"
The Earth Giant dosent budge as it renaming in place, continuing to snore away without a care in the world. Anna grunts, before breathing in deeply once more.
"WAKE UUUP!!"
That catches its attention, as the giant glares at the girl, before slowly moving to stand up. It's body shrunk the earth beneath it when it moved, only causing Anna's anxiety to skyrocket.
It takes a step in her direction, but trips on a boulder and stumbles into another giants body, causing it groan and shove it's companion off roughly.
The giant huffs as it's slammed back into the wall, before making eye contact with Anna and huffing.
"That's it.." she urges, and takes off into a sprint when it nears. "Come and get me! Come on!"
She runs quickly into the forest, narrowly missing as the giant slammed its hand on the ground.
The three giants stand to their full night, enraged at the human, before the middle one bellows loudly into the trees and causes them to split apart.
Anna trips at the shift in pressure, but dosnet let up as she continues to agitate the giants. "That's right! Keep coming!" She yells, and gets up to run.
The giant slams it's fist against the ground while the other begin to pick up large boulders, as if they were pebbles, and throw them at the girl.
Anna ducks, and watches with wide eyes as the boulder slams into a nearby tree, easily breaking it in half. "..that'll work." She turns around and waves her arms. "This way, guys!"
...
Kristoff roams around with Sven, but stops as the Earth thumped beneath them.
He looks up with wide eyes and wtaches the three giants move forward, his jaw going slack at their size.
...
Lieutenant Mattias and his guard watch in horror as the giants approach. "What?" He mumbles, and looks up with wide eyes as he sees Anna running straight for them.
"No, no, no, no..she's leading them to the dam!"
...
Anna yelps as the giants drew nearer to her, almost completely stomping on her as she slipped.
She falls down, and tries to scurry away while the beast brought its foot down. Shutting her eyes, she prepares for the worst, but gasps as she grabbed and pulled away just in time.
"Kristoff!" She sighs in relief, and grips her boyfriends shirt tightly.
"I'm here." He sighs. "What do you need?"
"To get to the dam!"
Without question, the blonde flicks the reins, and takes off with a stern face. "You got it."
They run as fast as they can through the woods, dodging trees and boulders of all shape and size. The giants stare down in confusion, leaving them to push through and look through parts of the trees.
The trio come to stop next to a wall, and Anna wastes no time in jumping up and scaling it.
"We'll meet you around!" Kristoff yells, and dosent wait before taking off in the opposite direction.
...
The princess stumbles as she makes it to the top, but gasps as she sees Mattias and his guard standing in her way, frowns on their faces with shields ready.
"Lieutenant Mattias.."
"Your highness..what are you doing?" The man asks in disbelief, slightly out of breath as he watches the giants near.
"The dam must fall." Anna tries to ease him. "It's the only way to break the mist and free the Forest."
Mattias shakes his head and straightens his stance. "But we've sworn to protect Arendelle at all costs."
"Arendelle has no future until we make this right!" Anna argues, her voice raised. "King Runeard betrayed everyone."
Mattias frowns at her accusation. "How do you know that?"
The princess wastes no time in putting her hand on her chest and speaking. "My brother and (Y/N), gave their lives for the truth."
The group all gasp at the news, and look down.
Anna takes a step. "Please, before we loose anyone else.."
Mattias takes a moment, before sighing deeply and raising his head. He brings his shield and sword up, and slams the two together.
His guard all watch before following along, and the sound echos through the air, and catches the Earth Giants attention, and they growl.
Anna quickly runs towards the dam, and the Giants immediately pick up boulders and begin to throw them. "Look out!" Mattias yells, and tackles one of his men to the ground, avoiding a piece of rock by a mere inch.
...
The princess slides to a stop before waving her hand sun the air and yelling towards the giants with a glare. "Destroy the dam! Come on! Throw your boulders!"
Seeming to understand, the giants throw big boulders into the air, and Anna covers her face as one slams into the wall infront of her, easily breaking away the dam.
The rocks continue to be thrown, and one ends up destroying the way out for Anna, causing her to stop and run the opposite way.
The dam begins to break away and fall apart, leaving Anna to run faster as the floor beneath her begins to cave in.
She struggles to maintain balance as the floor infront of her also begins to crumble. It catches the giants attention, and halts them from throwing anymore.
Quickly Anna takes a big leap, but misses it by and inch and begins to fall. She gasps as her hand is grabbed, and looks up with wide eyes as Mattias holds her hand tightly.
"I've got her!" He yells, and Kristoff quickly rushes to his side and helps pull the girl up before keeping her close to his chest.
...
The walls of the dam begin to crack, before falling aorta and caving in as all the water that was kept behind bars for years finally breaks free and rushes down the fjord.
...
All the spirits gather together to witness a bright light shine in the air, calling to them.
...
From beneath its resting place, the small patch of snow begins to glow, small specks of light pushing through.
...
Espen and (Y/N) gasp for air as they become unfrozen, before they both fall unconscious as the floor caves in and sends them tumbling deeper into the dark abyss.
They hit the surface of the water hard, and catches the attention of the water spirit, who watches them with concern as they just float deeper and deeper.
...
The wave rises in size as it collides with walls and fuses through valleys, filling the areas it hadnt touched in years.
It faces towards Arendelle, with no way of stopping it, all except for the two beings that rushes atop its surface.
(Y/N) grips her boyfriends waist tightly as she sits behind him and looks up to sea the people of Arendelle all watching in horror as the wave approaches their kingdom.
The spirit races infront of the wave, and jumps down towards the bottom before sliding to a stop just outside of the Kingdoms walls.
It turns around and raises its legs, allowing Espen and (Y/N) to spread their arms open and release a powerful shockwave of blue and orange.
Their powers mix together, like they did before, and creates a giant snowflake like barrier with an orange center and orange flecks inside.
The wave crashes into it, but dosent budge as the barrier stays put. Espen brings his arms down with a grunt, and watches as the barrier breaks away and pushes the water back, allowing it to calm and push down.
The two sigh as they lean against eachother in exhaustion, before looking up and smiling at their kingdom.
...
The water began to flow again.
The roads no longer trembled as the earth moves back.
The fire returned to the streets.
And even the wind calmed stopped pushing against the houses and signs that laid everywhere.
...
The people of Arendelle cheered loudly for their protectors, and nodded to them in thanks before watching them race away across the water, and returned to their kingdom.
