All is quiet in the kingdom of Arendelle as the people all tuck in for bed, exhausted from a hard days work.

Within the mighty walls of the castle, three young children had not yet succumb to their tiredness.

...

"Anna, Espen, (Y/N)!"

"Bedtime soon!"

A young boy with snowy white hair turns a small snowman around, it's face upturned as it roared within the makeshift woods of snow.

"Uh-oh, the princess is trapped in the snow goblins evil spell!" A young Anna exclaims seriously as she grabbed the snowman along with a princess doll.

Her brother watches with wide eyes as he listened intently to her story, as (Y/N) laid comfortably against his back, her cheek pressed against his shoulder.

The young girl wore a long sleeved dress shirt, a soft (F/C) that contrasted rather weirdly with Espen's light blue nightie. Her hair was to her shoulders, undone and fluffy as she pushed a peace of it behind her hair.

Espen feels her shift behind him, and straightens his back before reaching behind him and patting her leg comfortably.

Anna drops the princess to the ground, and gestures to her brother. "Quick, Espen! Make a Prince! A fancy one!"

Quickly, the young Prince gets to work and creates a fancy looking man, his posture straight and firm.

"Oh, no! The Prince is trapped, too!"

Very quietly, King Agnaar and his Queen, Iduana, peek into their children's room, small smiles on their faces as they watch the children play.

The king yelps quietly as a hand claps him on his shoulder. Turning around, Agnaar smiles gently as he faces his oldest friend, (F/N). He still wore his uniform proudly, his medals and sword shinier than ever.

Carefully, (F/N) watches with the faintest of smiles as he watches his daughter snuggle up against the young Prince, his chest feeling warm as Espen reaches behind him and absentmindedly plays with the girls fingers.

With a nod and a salute, (F/N) makes his way down the hall, to continue his duties. The King and Queen watch him leave, smiles on their faces as they watch their friend leave.

A friend who has been with them through thick and thin, a friend, who wasent even from Arendelle.

"Who cares about danger when there's love?" Anna says dreamily, both Espen and (Y/N) shrinking away with snorts as they listen.

The (H/C) girl quickly turns around from her position, and jumps up and wraps her arms around Espen's neck, causing him to chuckle and angle his head so the two locked eyes.

They stare at eachother for a few seconds, both their eyes seeming to shine just a little bit brighter before (Y/N) cringes at the younger of the three.

"Ew! Anna!" Espen turns around, and his brows furrow as he watches his sister make the 'prince' and 'princess' kiss.

"Ugh, Anna, gross!"

"Kissing won't save the forest." (Y/N) comments, her arms still wrapped around the young princes' neck as she sets her chin atop his shoulder blade.

"The lost fairies cry out!" Espen picks up an elephant and a giraffe, mimicking animal sounds. "What sound does a giraffe make?"

The three take a second before chuckling as Espen tosses the giraffe to the ground. "Nevermind, they wake the fairy queen.." he creates a small but beautiful fairy atop a hoarse.

"Who breaks the spell and saves everyone!"

Anna grabs all the creations and hugs them close. "And they all get married!"

(Y/N) giggles softly, her hands coming and  fiddling with themselves as she stifles a yawn. Espen takes not of this and angles himself downwards, so she could rest more comfortably.

"What are you playing?" His father speaks up from the side, a candle in one hand as his wife fixes a jar of flowers on the side table.

"Enchanted forest." Anna replies.

The king hums, "That's like no enchanted forest I've ever seen."

Both Espen and (Y/N) quickly peek up at that, as they glance to eachother before watching Agnaar with wide eyes. "You've seen an enchanted forest?"

"..wait, what?"

"I have, once." He replies softly, turning around and watching them with soft eyes.

"And you've never told us this before?" Anna asks with narrows eyes, hands on her hips as the adults chuckle at the little girl.

"Well, I could tell you now, if you.."

Agnaar gets cut off as he watches all three children scramble into the large bed together, Espen on one side, (Y/N) on his right and Anna on her right.

"Okay!"

"Tell us now!"

"..please?" (Y/N) mumbles softly, her voice tired as she leans against her friends shoulder, but giggles as Anna slams herself into the older girls stomach, head in her lap and legs sprawled out.

"Are you sure about this?" Iduana asks her husband carefully, "Maybe we should get.." she falters at her words, but gestures to the (H/C) girl with her eyes.

Agnaar shakes his head gently with a smile, "It's time they know." Gently sitting atop the plush bed, the king smiles as he watches his youngest whisper something to her brother.

"If they can settle and listen?" He taps her shoulder playfully, causing all three to hold their breath with puffed cheeks. Agnaar raises a brow as he watches (Y/N) begin to nod off.

"You can sleep if you want, dear.." Iduana softly calls to the girl, prompting (Y/N) to spring awake with a smile. "No, no..I'll be fine."

Agnaar chuckles, but continues. "Far away..as north as we can go..stood a very old, and very enchanted forest."

"But it's magic wasent that of goblin spells and lost fairies. It was protected by the most powerful spirits of all.."

"Those of air.."

"Of fire!"

"Of water.."

"And earth.."

Four, beautifully carved stone pillars stood high and mighty, diamonds carved into their centers as they stood outside in a clearing.

A lush forest surrounded the area, the trees as green as they could ever be, as flowers spring into the air, and danced with the winds gentle melody.

"But it was also home to the mysterious Northuldra people."

A village hidden carefully within the trees bustled with life, as people went about their day as usual.

Two young kids ran around as they chased a stream of fluttering leaves, giggling and laughing as they shoved eachother.

The girl, short in height but not in spirit, ducks under a cart as her frizzy hair bounced playfully against her back.

The boy, tall for his age but boyish in appearance, yelped as he ran into a women carrying a bucket filled with water. He apologizes quickly before grunting and running after his friend, his wild (H/C) mane stuck with leaves.

"Were the Northuldra magical, like me?"

"No, Espen, they were not magical..they just took advantage, of the forests gifts."

The then king of Arendelle wore a warm smile as the Chief of the Northuldra walks forward, both greeting eachother with open arms, and open hearts.

"Their ways were so different from ours..but still, they promised us friendship. In honor of that, your grandfather, King Runeard, built them a mighty dam..to strengthen their waters."

The dam stood tall, its grey walls sleek in appearance as reindeer and Northuldra passed over it with cheers and laughter.

"It was a gift of peace.."

"That's a big gift of peace.."

They all passed over it with wonder, hands joined and faces bright.

"And I was so honored to get to go to the forest and celebrate it.."

"Stand tall, Agnaar.." a young Agnaar, his eyes wide with wonder, stood proper as he bounced on the heels of his feet in excitement. His father tapped his chin, causing him to straighten his posture with a giddy smile.

He watches as his father takes the first step in joining the Northuldra, before following along, his first Captain at his side, his smile just as excited.

"I wasnet at all prepared for what the day would bring.."

Everyone gathers around as they watch the entertainment, their laughs ringing in the air as the wind became warm and welcoming.

"We let down our guard."

Agnaar watches from the side of a clearing in wonder.

"We were charmed."

He looks around at everyone, and chuckles as he watches his people enjoying themselves to the fullest, the Northuldra teaching them how to communicate with the forest.

"It felt so..magical."

The young Prince gasps with a shiver as a gust of wind passes him, leaving him to turn around with a tilt of his head.

He jogs to the clearing, and quirks a brow as he watches two teenagers, both around his age, laugh and chuckle as they get carried by the wind, their hair sticking up wildly.

He slowly approaches them, a hint of a smile gracing his lips as he stares longer at the girl. He glances to the boy, and snorts as he gets turned upside down.

The two laugh and giggle once more before being carried away, and out of site.

"But something went wrong.."

Agnaar immediately turns his head as the sound of someone yelling catches his attention. He watches with wide eyes as the once peaceful and welcoming atmosphere, turned into a bloodbath.

"They were attacking us."

"Get behind me." His first Captain orders, dodging an attack and springing into action.

"It was a brutal battle."

Fight after fight, they all continued to fight and scream and beg for mercy.

"But your grandfather.."

"Father!!" Agnaar yells, his palm outstretched as he watches his father get flung off a cliff, and tumble down to the dark depths below.

"..was lost."

He gasps as purple and pink flames consumed the area, their rage bright as they burned.

"The fighting enraged the spirits, they turned their magic against us all."

The young Prince gets knocked off his feet, and thrown against a boulder. He hits his head against it, his vision immediately becoming black as he falls unconscious.

"There was this..voice.."

An angelic, almost soothing voice rings in the air, pulling Agnaar out of his sleep. He feels himself get lifted off the ground and onto a wagon, before falling unconscious once more.

"And they saved me."

A burst of pink fills the air as the fire burst apart, speaks flying around and grazing the ground below.

"I was told the spirits then vanished, and a powerful mist covered the forest. Locking everyone out."

...

"And that knight, I came home King of Arendelle." He finishes his story with a frown and sunken eyes, the flames light no longer reaching them.

He blows the light out, as the three kids all stared at him with mixed expressions. Espen wore a worried one, (Y/N) wore a sad one, and Anna..was left gaping like a fish.

"Woah, papa, that was epic.." the little girl breaths out. "Whoever saved you, I love them!" She confesses, the group watches as she falls against her mothers lap, the Queen settling in behind (Y/N).

Agnaar chuckles, "I wish I knew who it was.."

Espen frowns, and turns to his father. "What happened to the spirits? What's in the forest now?" He asks, his eyes wide with curiosity. (Y/N) slumps against his shoulder, "I would also like to know!" She yawns loudly, her voice softening.

Agnaar chuckles at the girl, but nods none the less. "I don't know, the most still stands. No one can get in..and no one has since came out."

"So we're safe." Iduana assures, her husband nodding his head.

"But the forest could still wake again, and we must be prepared for whatever danger it may bring." Espen and (Y/N) nod at his words as he sets both hands atop of theirs.

"And on that note, how about we say goodnight to your father." The queen quickly buts in, sending her husband a warning look and patting his hand.

"But I still have so many questions!" Anna whines, unwrapping her mothers shawl form around her and tossing it away.

"Save it for another night, Anna." Agnaar chuckles, getting up form the bed and turning around.

"Ugh..you know I don't have that kind of patience." She grumbled to the two older children. She squeals as (Y/N) pinches her nose, before wrapping an arm around the princess and pulling her down into the bed.

Espen laughs softly as he watches them, his eyes lingering in (Y/N) for just a minute to long.

Their father leaves, and Anna springs up with a question. "Why did the Northuldra attack us anyway?" Espen looks down with furrowed brows, but quickly wipes it away as (Y/N) brings him in close for a hug.

"Who attacks people who give them gifts?"

"Do you think..the forest with wake again?" Espen asks softly, clutching (Y/N)'a hands in his.

Iduana watches them before casting her eyes downwards and smiling sadly. "Only Ahtohallan knows.."

"..octa-who-what?" Anna drags out, the children all staring at the queen with raises brows and confusion.

Iduana gasps softly, before smiling and turning to them. "When I was little, my mother would sing a song about a special river called Ahtohallan..that was said to hold all the answers about the past, about what we are apart of."

The queens face becomes more lively and excited as she speaks, and her children catch on to it.

"Will you sing it for us?" (Y/N) asks, nudging her shoulders with her friends and smiling.

"Please?"

Iduana crinkles her nose at the girl with a smile before jumping into bed. She settles herself between Anna and (Y/N), leaving the girl to wrap her arms around Espen's waist and snuggle into his side.

The young boy smiles down at her nervously, before hugging her back and squeezing her gently, his face in the crook of her neck.

"Cuddle close, scooch in." The queen runs her finger down Anna's nose gently, causing the little girl to giggle as she pushes into her mothers arms.

Iduana wraps he's arms around her children, bringing them close and running her hands up and down their arms.

"Where the north wind, meets the sea, there's a river, full of memories.."

Espen nudges his face into (Y/N)'s hair as his mother watches with a smile.

"Sleep my darling, safe and sound, for in this river, all is found."

Iduana smooths her finger gently across Anna's nose, causing the girl to quickly fall into a deep sleep.

"In her waters, deep and true..lie the answers, and a path for you."

She picks her youngest up gently before laying her to rest in her own bed across the room, before turning and walking back towards her son.

Espen detaches himself from (Y/N) carefully, the girl rolling over and sinking further into the comfort of the bed.

"Dive down deep into her sound..but not to far or you'll be drowned.."

Picking her son up, Iduana nudges her nose against his, causing him to laugh quietly and begin to gently sing along with his mother.

"Yes she, will sing to those who hear, and in her sing, all magic flows."

The Queen stares outside, her breath catching as she takes in the beautiful Northern lights, seeming to call her home as they touched the hills.

"But can, you brave what you most fear? Can you face what the river knows?"

...

Years passed since that day, but not a day goes by that neither Espen, (Y/N) nor Anna forget the words the Queen sang to them that day.

"Where the North wind, meets the sea, there's a mother, full of memory.."

The kingdom of Arendelle stood tall, its castle coated neatly with snow as the wind blew against it gently, the autumn leaves catching in the air.

"Come, my darling, homeward bound, when all is lost..then all is found."
