Introduction
ย ย ย The Dragonne (/drฤ-goสn/) Family were among the most feared families in the wizarding world. A family composed of pureblooded witches and wizards, with magic greatly appreciatedโanother word for fearedโby the rest. As well as their unique ability to communicate with dragons through their own language, Dragonstongue (which is also used for their house words: Nor vanya guine dragonne. None truer than blood.) It was rumored that the reason why the family and their dragons have such an unconditional bond was because they share the same blood. The first known member of the Dragonne Bloodline was known to be an outcast, even to her own family, desperate to leave a mark in the wizarding world, thus resorting to the "comforts"โloosely termedโof Dark Magic (see The First Dragon Section).
ย ย ย The first known Dragonne wizard and witch to attend Hogwarts was the twins, Dawnery and Dynallia Dragonne both sorted into the Slytherin House unsurprisingly. While the family had a long list of notorious deeds, each of the family members during their time at Hogwarts had uneventful years, told to behave until they are finally of age, in which their dragons are already fully grown and skilled. However, that promise was broken when the Dragonne Slytherins in 1945 were forced to defend themselves against Tom Riddle (see The Ruby Veil: Near Extinction of the Dragonne Bloodline).
The First Dragon
ย ย ย Bessarion Dragonne was an outcast from when she attended Hogwarts to entering her marriage. She thought that having a family would finally let her need for recognition finally ease. However, years into the marriage, with already children of her own, she realised that she had become a mere housewife, relevant to no one, nothing.
ย ย ย Motivated by desperation, Bessarion turned to Dark Magic and spelled herself to be the largest, scariest, and most majestic witch of all time. Bessarion was one of the prominent examples of why wizards and witches need to be more specific in casting spells. For the moment she said those words, she was no longer who she was before, not physically at least. Her smooth, olive skin was replaced with hard, dark, reptilian scales that put all reptile creatures to shame. Her blue eyes, while swimming in the daydreams of her desired future, turned golden yellow with a thick black line vertically drawn at the centre of each eye, like a feline on edge. A tail that measured about 20 full-grown muggles and wizards or witches alike. Hard-working arms with a muscle memory for doing household chores turned into leather-like wings that make bats look like the copy-cats. And from the mutters of chants and spells, to a breath of blazing, dancing flames that could melt almost anything upon contact.
ย ย ย Bessarion Dragonne became the first creature of her kind. A myth to many, a nightmare to some. But all told her story just the same, with her name gradually changing with the pronunciation of different dialects that told the tale. And soon, people started calling her, and those like her, dragons.
ย ย ย The Story of the First Dragon was unconfirmed, for being a part of the Dragonne Family requires a set of rules and contracts that prohibits them from disclosing family secrets to anyone who isn't a part of their family. But if the story is true, then the connection between the family and their dragons are finally answered. They do share the same blood as they originated from a Dragonne themselves.
Notions & Traditions
"Nor vanya guine dragonne."
None truer than blood.
โ House of Dragonne
ย ย ย The Dragonne Family is one of the oldest pure blood families, which then came with a set of unbreakable, and sometimes questionable, notions and traditions.
The Selection
ย ย ย Unlike what most people know, the family members don't have the luxury of picking their dragons. Choosing dragons depends on the dragon themselves, as much as the wands pick their wizards/witches. Upon the Dragonne's birth, they are given nine years for them to be acknowledged by a dragon as their companion. Some Dragonnes are so strong that upon birth, they've already caught the loyalty of a dragon. Some are unlucky to have not attracted any dragons at all before they reach the age of 10. But they often find their dragons within those nine years. Once a dragon has chosen them, they can proceed to the soul-binding ritual that will occur a year before their first year at Hogwarts.
ย ย ย A Dragonne by marriage does not have Dragonne-blood, therefore, the privilege of having a dragon does not extend automatically to their spouses until they secure the loyalty of their spouse's dragon, if they ever earn their loyalty (see Coming-of-age Ball & Engagement Ceremony).
ย ย ย Upon the unfortunate event that a dragon's demise came before that of their Dragonne companion, a dragon replacement will be accepted as long as they go through another soul-binding ritual. However, in all the recorded events that the dragons have died first, each and every Dragonne that their winged companions left behind had never once attracted the loyalty of another again.
ย ย ย Halmory Dragonne (1885-1920) was the first and only Dragonne that had not secured a dragon for herself. Ashamed of the disgrace that she had brought upon their family name, she was disowned soon after she was of age.
Soul-Binding Ritual
ย ย ย [This section of the book is edited by Julian Dragonne to be more public-appropriate, removing the intimate details of their family secret.]
ย ย ย At the tender age of 10, a Dragonne is subjected to a ritual with their dragons. This ritual shall strengthen the bond and the loyalty between the Dragonne and the dragon. The spell used is unknown by the public and unstated by the family. Further details about this particular ritual have been seized to keep away from unworthy bearers of the knowledge.
Coming-Of-Age Ball & Engagement Ceremony
When a Dragonne reaches the delightful age of 17, their birthdays are celebrated with the news of an engagement. Whether a young man or young woman, the celebrated Dragonne is to announce the person they have agreed to be betrothed to as a way to welcome them into young adulthood. After the announcement in the coming-of-age ball, the celebration will then take a more serious turn, which is the engagement ceremony.
ย ย ย The engagement ceremony will commence with a ritual involving the betrothed, the celebrated Dragonne, and his/her dragon. Each dragon has their own obsidian necklace that remains fastened on their neck from the moment they perform the soul-binding ritual. The obsidian rocks have the initials of their companions engraved on the surfaces to identify to whom their loyalties lie. In the engagement ritual, the betrothed are to earn the trust and loyalty of their future spouse's dragon. They are given a knife to carve their own initials on the same obsidian stone necklace. Once the dragon has accepted their companion's betrothed, the engraving will proceed and their loyalty will then be extended to the future spouse of their Dragonne companion.
ย ย ย In 1921, Rhaquel Dragonne I was once betrothed to Credencius Malfoy. As traditionally planned, their engagement was announced during Rhaquel's coming-of-age ball, the news well-received by the people. When it was time for the engagement ritual, her dragon Axos did not accept the Dragonne's betrothed and even went as far as to burn Credencius to deathโigniting the decades of feud between the Dragonnes and the Malfoys. Rhaquel Dragonne and Axos were then sent to trial by the Ministry of Magic, insisted by the Malfoys. Rhaquel and Axosโaged 17 and 62โwere then sentenced to death.
Marriage Contract
ย ย ย The Dragonnes have very specific and strict characteristics when it comes to welcoming new members to their family. Being adamant about their desire to remain a pureblooded family, the spouses must be pureblood wizards and witches. They also need to have respectable families, preferably a part of the Sacred 28 (up until 1945). Seeing as the family has some "odd" beliefs and traditions that are not for the faint-hearted, parents prefer their children to be wed to wizards and witches who could handle the horrors of their family's past. Which is the main reason why all of the Dragonnes are Slytherins. Given that their family secrets are sensitive, Dragonne family members are spelled not to say a single secret to their betrothed until their marriage contract has been finalised.
ย ย ย Myron Dragonne (1898-1945) was the recent Dragonne that had been disowned by the family after going behind their backs and marrying a Muggle-born witch named Yang Hye-Sung (1898-1945), also earning himself a half-blood step-son from Hye-Sung's first marriage, Kairus Yang.
ย ย ย Request for Amendment: As of 1991, Miss Lunaria Amaris Dragonne, youngest daughter of Mr. Ylliard and Mrs. Fiola Dragonne and younger sister of Miss Solaria Avril Dragonne, is sorted to House Ravenclaw, making her the first-ever Dragonne-blood that will not graduate from House Slytherin.
The Unbreakable Vow
ย ย ย During the wedding ceremony, the Dragonne and their betrothed will perform the Unbreakable Vow spell to ensure the eternal loyalty of the betrothed for the family he/she is to be a part of. Consequences of not upholding the said vow will result in death.
The Ruby Veil: Near Extinction of the Dragonne Bloodline

ย ย ย In 1945, Viloria Zhaelien Dragonne and her disapproved, half-blood betrothed Tom Marvolo Riddle were the root to the ultimate betrayal that the family had experienced. Unknowing of Tom Riddle's true nature and intentions, Viloria disclosed all their family's sensitive information to the wizard which then resulted in a weapon that he did not hesitate to fire upon the family.
ย ย ย With the knowledge of their family secret, Tom Riddle had done the impossible, nearly wiping out the Dragonne Family and their dragons from existence, as well as wreaking havoc across the wizarding world. From then on, the Dragonne Family decided the addition of another clause (or spell) in their marriage contracts. Not one sensitive secret could be spoken, written, or acted by a Dragonne, unless the person they are speaking to has properly gone through the evaluation of becoming part of the family.
ย ย ย Unfortunately, the incident caused a wedge between the Dragonnes and the rest of the elite pureblood families, as a lot of them had become suspected Death Eatersโfollowers of the very man who had threatened the existence of their bloodline. Therefore, the Dragonnes unanimously decided to not entertain the idea of marrying wizards or witches from families included in the Sacred 28โwhich proved to be a lot harder than they expected.
The Scarlet Train:ย The Aftermath of the Massacre

ย ย ย Following the events of The Ruby Veil, the sole survivor, Julian Dragonne at the terrible age of 12, was forced to bring his own mindset to maturity and take matters into his own hands. With the intention to protect himself and his future family from any further harm, Julian implemented the use of Secret Charms to himself and future Dragonnes after him, whether by blood or by marriage, to shield their secrets from those who seek to hurt them again. Wizards and witches at the time who did not bear the Dragonne name yet possess the privilege of knowing their family secrets were then ordered to be slaughtered by the 12-year-old wizard.
ย ย ย Considering that Julian Dragonne was still under age when he ordered such acts, the boy was merely sent to a juvenile detention facility accompanied by regular mental treatments approved by St. Mungo's in order to help him through the traumas he had acquired from the last two events. He was released from the facility in 1951 and has been at home arrest ever since with regular visits from a caretaker in St. Mungo's, Savannah Lockwood, who later became his wife.
Most Notable Dragons and their Companions/Riders
Seven The Cruel
ย ย ย Seven is a Hungarian Horntail, one of the oldest dragons currently alive and has already bonded with several Dragonnes over many generations. It was believed that she is the dragon Bessarion turned into after she used Dark Magic. She was the sole dragon that survived The Ruby Veil. Some of the Dragonnes that have bonded with Seven were Euphemia Dragonne, Magnolia Dragonne I, and her current companion, Julian Dragonne.
Axos The Young
ย ย ย Known for being the prominent reason for the fall-out between the Dragonnes and the Malfoys, Axos was a Peruvian Vipertooth dragon of Rhaquel Dragonne I. He was naturally paranoid and easily angered. Therefore, the slightest untrustworthy movement would result in the dragon acting out. Hence, Credencious Malfoy's death. Axos was sentenced to death at the age of 62, along with his companion.
Thelonious The Traitor
ย ย ย After Myron Dragonne was disowned when he married a muggle-born witch, he gained a step-son whose name was Kairus Yang (soon named Kairus Yang-Dragonne). Dragons are widely believed to be only capable of bonding with those they share blood with. Therefore, when Kairusโa non-Dragonne by bloodโhad attracted the loyalty of a Norwegian Ridgeback, the dragon was deemed a traitor just as his step-father was. Thelonious was one of the dragons that were massacred in 1945, dying at the bright age of 107.
Augustine The Mighty
ย ย ย Currently bonded with Ylliard Dragonne, Augustine is a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon, one of the fiercest dragons to ever exist, who had no record of ever bonding with any Dragonne until he chose Ylliard to be his companion. Augustine has survived multiple wars from different continents, rising above the rest which was why he was considered to be the ultimate warrior of the dragons, the mightiest of them all.
Storm The Brave
ย ย ย This Hebridean Black dragon had one of the most unique ways of introducing her loyalty to a companion. Legacy Dragonne, her first and current companion, was believed to be under threat when she was barely a year old. When her parents, Adaline and Dominic Thorngate-Dragonne were busy with her twin brother Legend, Legacy was almost attacked by what the family suspected was a Death Eater with an untamed Hippogriff at their side. Storm, despite being young and little at the time, appeared just in time and was able to protect the child and choose her as her companion in the process, even losing the sight of her left eye when it was clawed by the vicious Hippogriff.
Current Generation of the Dragonne Family
Julian Dragonne, after being wedded to Savannah Lockwood the doctor from St. Mungo's, gained a son and a daughterโYlliard in 1951, and Adaline in 1957. Ylliard Dragonne met Fiola Ravenwood (now Dragonne) when they attended Hogwarts at the same time. Fiola Ravenwood was easily accepted by the family given the fact that she was a Slytherin and a pureblood. Though she, as many people do, underestimated the amount of strength needed to keep her sanity when she joined the family, learned their secrets, and witnessed a few with her own eyes. Which was why she, along with the many generations of Dragonne-by marriage before her, had snapped and had never been sane ever since. Adaline, on the other hand, had the fortune of being betrothed to a tough Dominic Thorngate, who accepted their family's secrets like his own the moment he married into the family.
ย ย ย Ylliard and Fiola Dragonne now have two daughters, their eldest daughter Solaria Avril Dragonne being born in 1977 and Lunaria Amaris Dragonne born in 1980. Dominic and Adaline Thorngate-Dragonne gave birth to twins on the same year as Lunariaโthe son, Legend, being the first to come out and daughter, Legacy, being the last.
ย ย ย Solaria Dragonne was sorted into Slytherin during her first year way back in 1989. She is currently in her fifth year while her younger sister Lunaria Dragonne was scandalusly sorted into Ravenclaw back in 1991, headlining the Daily Prophet. It was still a hot topic years when later when Lunaria is now a third-year friends with the famous Harry Potter. The twins, Legend and Legacy Dragonne were undoubtedly sorted into Slytherin the same year as Lunaria, becoming two of the most active students in their year with Legend being one of the smartest in academics and Legacy being the most skilled in Quidditch.
