Mystic Falls & Making allies
(S2:E3 ─ Bad Moon Rising)
"LYCANTHROPE." Genesis hears a man say as she arrives at the Salvatore boarding house. She barges inside, using her speed to roam around the room, scaring them with Stefan blocking Elena with his arm. Damon rolled his eyes. Stefan threw a stake in Genesis's direction, and she caught it with ease. At the same time, the man with them went alarmed by another presence in the room.
"Losing your touch Stefan. I guess humanity does that for you." Genesis pouts teasingly, her french accent rolling off her tongue smoothly, now seated on the leather couch in front of them beside Damon.
"Genesis. What are you doing here?" Stefan asks, his jaw tightening, confusion and hesitancy in his face as he glances towards Elena, who is looking at Genesis intriguingly. Genesis grins, waving at her as she crosses her legs. Throwing the wooden stake in Damon's direction, which he almost missed.
"You haven't told him?" Genesis raises her eyebrows at Damon.
"I forgot. Plenty of things happened, you know?" Damon reasons with a shrug of his shoulder as he pours Genesis a glass of tequila.
"Damon called me. He asked me to help him with the Katherine situation." Genesis informs Stefan, and he looks at Damon with a scoff.
"Really?" Stefan grunts.
"I could easily go back to Paris. I'm supposed to watch a Dior fashion show today. And I missed it because of this. The least you could do is tone down with the attitude." Genesis gives him a taunting smile. She stands up from her seat, grabbing her customized Louis Vuitton shoulder bag. Damon is suddenly in front of her as he raises his hands in Genesis and Stefan's direction, mediating them.
"Whoa. Okay, no. I need your help, Genesis. And the guest room is already prepared for you." Damon tells her, and Genesis scoffs as Stefan gives his brother a bewildered look, his question being answered on why Damon was arranging the largest guest room in the house yesterday.
"Let's continue the conversation earlier before Genesis arrived." He negotiates as he hands Genesis the glass he poured her earlier. She sits down again and takes a sip. She was annoyed already. If she weren't meant to do something here for Niklaus, she wouldn't be playing nice at all.
Nobody disrespects her the way Stefan Salvatore did. Nobody gets away with it. Genesis should've killed him back in 1925 when she had the chance.
"Werewolves—Lycanthropy? What about it?" Genesis asks as she leans on the couch. Why are they suddenly discussing werewolves? Not unless there's a werewolf in town, which makes her ingredient gathering much more effortless than she thought. The good thing about werewolves, where one goes, the others follow. They come in a big bundle, definitely worth the price of killing one, kill one kill all.
"Nope. No way. Impossible way too long chaining." Damon says in disbelief as he sits on the leather chair.
"Is it?" Stefan asks.
"I've been on this planet one hundred and sixty-some odd years and never came across one. If werewolves exist, where the hell are they?" Damon scoffs, rolling his eyes.
"Because I killed them, Damon. I made werewolves extinct since 1987." Genesis answers—not entirely true. She made sure to leave some pups around for Niklaus's experiment. They are just in hiding because of her. Since 1987, Genesis made it known to every werewolf to hide from her or else she wouldn't second guess to rip their heart out of their chest when she sees them.
"What? Why?" Elena asks as he faces scrunches in confusion. Fuck sake, now that Genesis looked at her. She really looks like Katherine, unlike the last time Genesis saw her, which was four years ago.
"None of your business," Genesis answers shortly with a shrug of her shoulders. The man that was with them was about to ask something, and she could practically feel the confusion he was feeling from where she sat. "I don't need to explain myself to you lot." Genesis stood up, placed the empty glass on the coffee table, walking towards the stairs.
"Damon. Get my luggage will you?" Genesis says as she makes her way up.
"Why me?" Damon looks at her with bewilderment. Yet he stands up from his seat.
"Because I'm your guest. And I said so." Genesis yells out from the second floor. Stefan, Elena, and Alaric watched their interaction curiously and followed Damon's figure walking toward the door. Stefan hears Damon open Genesis's trunk. Then Damon reappears with three large Louis Vuitton bags tucked in his grasp.
Damon arrives in Genesis's room as Genesis exits the bathroom. Nodding in approval. "Not as bad as I thought." Genesis muses as Damon place her bags on the bed.
Damon chuckles. "Told you."
"Do you want to come with us? To Alaric's dead wife's office." Damon asks as Genesis opens her bags and starts arranging her things in the closet.
"Thanks for the offer, but no. I want to explore this town first. Tomorrow, I'll help you." Genesis tells him, and Damon nods, already knowing that Genesis has already made up her mind and there's no changing it.
"Blood bag supplies are in the basement," Damon informs her as he exits the room, and Genesis says. "Thank you!"
Genesis's phone buzzed from her purse. She looks at the message and sees Cassandra's name along with her home address. Genesis decided that she'll visit them later. So she headed back downstairs and saw Elena, Damon, Stefan, and the man she didn't really care what his name was heading outside.
"Do you want to come with us, Genesis?" Elena asks with her hoarse and throaty voice. Genesis thought, why did she have to talk like that? Genesis shakes her head and says, "I would like to get settled in first and maybe even catch up with Stefan." she tilts her head toward Stefan, and she gives him a wink. Elena tightens her hold on Stefan, feeling intimidated by her.
Genesis laughs.
"Oh, don't worry, Elena. I'm not going to steal your man. I already had him, and you can enjoy my leftovers. While it's still—" Genesis looks at Stefan, her eyes gazing at him from head to toe, "Hot." Stefan feels flustered while Elena looks at him with furrowed brows. Damon chuckles, walking towards Genesis. "Stop provoking them, Genesis. You know how Stefan gets."
"I easily get under his skin." Genesis smiles at Stefan as she wraps her arm around Damon's arm. She yells out as she and Damon walk outside. "I'm not the one you should be scared of, Elena."
"Let's talk when I get home. Catch you up with some things." Damon tells her as they stop in front of her car. A Pontiac trans am 1982. Damon whistles as he checks it out. "Nice ride. Borrow it for a spin?"
"You wish this baby is more precious than your life." Genesis retorts as she gently pats the roof of her car. Damon pouts, "Don't pout. It isn't a good look on you." She teases, she opens the car door, and enters her car. Opening the ignition and starting to drive towards town.
Genesis parks her car in the restaurant's parking spot. Mystic grill.
She heads inside, looking around. It was a typical bar and dining restaurant, and its take on vintage design and wooden furniture. She sits on the bar stool as the bartender attends to her.
"Two margaritas and some chips." Genesis orders, and the bartender nods, looking at her carefully, and she raises an eyebrow. "What?"
"Got any I.D?" The bartender asks. One of the reasons she loved immortality, she never aged, and people–sometimes mistook her for a minor. "Flattering." She replies, her voice sweet. She places her hand on the bar and leans forward, and she looks straight into the bartender's eyes, pupils dilating.
"Get my order." Genesis compels. She sits back in her chair, takes her phone out from her bag, texting Niklaus. I will have a word with you later. The bartender nodded quickly and hurried their steps as he made her drink. Her phone pinged, and Niklaus had already replied. What did I do?
"Thought I'll find you here." Stefan greets from behind and hides her from smoothly turning her seat. Facing Stefan, she gives him a sweet smile. "Maybe because I know you'll come to find me. This place is rather obvious for meet-ups." Genesis drawls out. Stefan scoffs, sitting beside her.
"What are you really doing here, Genesis?" Stefan suspiciously asks. The bartender places two margaritas in front of her, followed by the chips. Genesis takes the glass in her hands, sipping the alcoholic liquid.
"I'm here for Damon, Stefan. Or are you assuming I'm here for you?" Genesis places the glass back down the bar with a grin in her plump red lips.
Stefan rolls his eyes. "You are." Genesis laughs as she shakes her head. "Sweetheart. I don't know how to say this in a friendly manner. But you know I'm not nice. I. Do. Not. Want. You. Being with you in the first place was a mistake. You were too hung up over that girl, Katherine. Which you seem still are, being with her doppelgänger and all."
Stefan went defensive and said with his jaw tight, "Elena is not Katherine."
"Of course, they are not. But they do share the same trait. Two brothers are fighting for her love." Genesis taunts. She doesn't see the appeal, really. But it must've been fun on her part. Deep down, Elena knows that she has Damon and Stefan wrapped in her fingers.
Elena will be dead soon enough. So it doesn't really matter.
Stefan stays silent as a girl walks up to them. Genesis looked at her, and immediately she sensed it. A witch with magic she hasn't entirely used to its potential, Genesis can feel it. This girl's magic is begging to be used and released.
"What do you want, Stefan?" The girl sighs tiredly.
"Do you know how to make a daylight ring, Bonnie?" Stefan asks. Suddenly the hostility he showed Genesis is gone.
Bonnie shakes her head, "No. I don't."
Genesis raises an eyebrow at her. Daylight ring spells are one of the most basic spells a witch can cast. Surely she has some grimoires? Poor thing.
"I do have an extra one." Genesis pipes up, showing her left hand, wiggling her fingers, on her forefinger an opal shaped rose quartz studded with diamonds at the center of the ring with a gold band. Her ring finger with a deep shade of square cut emerald surrounded with diamonds with a gold band also studded with diamonds around it.
"I can give it to whoever needs it." Genesis offers. As much as she doesn't want to, she needs to prove to Stefan that she can be trusted, and her giving a daylight ring to a person she doesn't know shows how much she can be trusted.
"Yeah. Might want to take her up on that offer." The girl says and walks away from them, heading towards the bar's exit.
"Looks like you don't have a choice," Genesis tells Stefan with a taunting smile. She empties both of her drinks, stands up, taking her bag.
"Where are you going?" Stefan questions with a raised eyebrow. He stands with her.
"To the person who needs this." —Idiot. Genesis wanted it to add but instead bit her tongue to stop herself. Stefan then gives her a nod, and they leave the bar. With Genesis following Stefan's car, they stopped at a house. Genesis exits her car.
"You can at least tell me the person I'm giving my extra daylight ring to," Genesis says as they walk towards the front door, and Stefan knocks on it.
"Her name is Caroline. Caroline Forbes." Stefan informs her, and Genesis nods. The sheriff's daughter. Now how did the Sheriff's daughter turn into a vampire? From her recent research on this town, the founding families, including the Forbes, hated vampires—and hate is the nicest word even to describe it.
"Come in!" A voice yells out, and they do with a blonde girl standing on the other side—behind the sunlight.
"Hey, Stefan!" Caroline perks up with a smile, then her eyes slide to Genesis, "And who is this?" She asks curiously.
Stefan was about to speak, but Genesis introduced herself with her thick french accent. "Genesis Ackerman, call me Gen." Stefan rolls her eyes. It looks like Genesis is already starting to make friends.
Genesis smiles at her. Oh, Elliot is going to like her. She thought.
"Hi, Gen!" Caroline greets, and Genesis walks toward her.
"I heard you are in need of a daylight ring." Genesis is behind as Caroline leads them towards the living room. Caroline nods, "Badly." She whines, and Genesis removes the quartz ring on her finger, showing it to Caroline.
"I'm here to give it to you," Genesis says, and Caroline furrows her eyebrows, looking at Stefan and then at Genesis.
"Really? Don't you need that?" Caroline asks as she eyes the ring.
"Not really. I have my own." Genesis tells her as she points at the emerald ring on her ring finger.
Caroline's eyes brighten. "That is so pretty!" She gushes, and Genesis chuckles. She is sitting on the couch with Caroline sitting beside her. "Thank you."
"Now you take care of it. I don't give rings. I sell it."
"Well, how much do you sell it for?"
"Half a million dollars."
Caroline's eyes widens, jaw-dropping. She closes her mouth and then says, "I can't accept that."
"But you will," Genesis tells her, taking Caroline's hand and slipping the daylight ring on her ring finger. "Now you can walk in the sun."
Caroline suddenly engulfs her in a hug, squeezing her, "Thank you! Thank you so much!"
"No worries," Genesis tells her with a genuine smile. She already took a liking to this girl. She stands up from her seat. "I have to go back to town. Might go for a round of shopping."
"Can I go?" Caroline asks excitedly. Before Genesis could answer, Stefan says. "No. You have to practice controlling your thirst for blood."
Genesis nods in agreement. "I want to disagree with him, but he's right newbie vamp. I'll take you after you have good control."
Caroline agrees as Genesis heads out. Entering her car, starting the engine, and driving to town. Stopping at a bakeshop with Cassandra and Clementine in mind when visiting a friend, she doesn't want to go empty-handed.
She entered the bakeshop with the bell ringing, indicating a customer had arrived. A girl with striking red hair came from the kitchen, wearing a white t-shirt and a black apron. She smiles brightly at Genesis and greets. "Welcome to Mystic Cafe. What can I get you?"
"Anything good you recommend?" Genesis asks, eyeing the baked goods displayed on the counter.
"If I'm being honest, they are all good, baked fresh every day by me." The girl boasts, and Genesis looks at her, impressed. "Really now? Then tell me your favorite."
"Wow. No one really asks me that but sure!" She exclaimed excitedly. Genesis sees the tag pinned on the left side of her shirt, Giana.
Giana's smile is charming, and her aura is alluring, and the way her face brightens can make a man fall to his knees without complaint. Her light blue eyes can be a trap, she's pretty, and she has that certain beauty that's irresistible and hard to miss.
"The strawberry cheesecake is my absolute favorite, and the black forest cupcakes," Giana says, looking at Genesis. Genesis could tell that Giana was passionate about baked goods. And her excitement reminded her of Caroline.
"I'll take the whole cheesecake and a box of the cupcakes you just said," Genesis tells her, and Giana quickly wipes off the surprise from her face, nodding quickly, and prepares the box for the cheesecake and cupcakes.
Giana places the bag on the counter as she says. "That'll be $35 dollars." Genesis takes her wallet and hands her a $200 bill.
Giana hands her back the $100 bill, and Genesis stops her and says. "That's yours, and keep the change."
Giana's eyes widened. "Really?"
Genesis nods as she takes the brown bag. "Thank you!" Genesis heads towards the door as Giana says. "Have a great day!"
"You too, Giana."
Genesis heads toward her car and opens the door, placing the brown paper bag on the passenger seat. She sits down on the driver's seat, opens her purse, takes her phone, looking at Cassandra's text message of her address. Genesis starts driving, and oddly enough, it is the route to Caroline's house, which is literally next to Caroline's house. She focuses her hearing, hoping that Stefan and Caroline aren't in Caroline's house anymore. And they aren't.
Genesis exits her car, takes the brown bag with her, walking up to the front door. She knocks with Cassandra opening the door. Cassandra Rivera had aged since the last time she saw her, which was six years ago when Clementine migrated here to the U.S.
"Genesis," Cassandra says with a wide smile. Cassandra stood at 5 '4 height and tawny skin, oval face shape, and brownish-pink thin lips with light eye bags under her upturned brown eyes–assuming that Cassandra was overworking herself in the hospital again as a head nurse–assuming Cassandra had just finished her shift because she's wearing pajamas.
"Come in." Genesis did so. She hands her the brown paper bag. And Cassandra shakes her head.
"You shouldn't have," Cassandra says with her Filipino accent, shaking her head and leading Genesis towards their kitchen.
"But I did." Genesis grins. Seeing the plate and utensils for one person prepped on the table. "Because knowing you, you made me food."
"Your favorite. Pork Adobo." Cassandra muses as she places the cheesecake and cupcakes on the table.
"You spoil me." Genesis groans in delight, sitting on the wooden chair and placing her bag on the chair beside her as Cassandra places a cup of rice on her plate.
"Only for the best," Cassandra tells her with a smile sitting on the opposite side of her.
But before Genesis could take a bite. Clementine walks down the stairs with her backpack. She looks up and sees Genesis and her mom. She runs towards Genesis and engulfs her in a hug. "Gen!"
"Hey, kiddo." Genesis chuckles, lightly patting Clementine's back. She pulls back and examines Clementine.
Clementine Rivera is an ethereal girl with her light brown skin, a diamond-shaped face, almond brown eyes, pink down-turned lips, and an adorable buttoned nose, something about Clementine is soft and gentle.
"You've grown."
"The last time you saw me, I was 12. I'm 18 now." Clementine laughs softly as she looks at her mom and then back at Genesis. "What are you doing here?"
Genesis leans back on her chair, crossing her legs. "I'm staying here at Mystic Falls for a while. Mind if you tour me around sometime?"
"Yeah! Sure! I would love to." Clementine nods with a soft smile on her lips. She looks at her watch and says. "I have a shift at the grill in 10 minutes, maybe during the weekends?" Clementine asks, and Genesis smiles.
"Sure thing," Genesis tells her, then Clementine places a peck on Cassandra's cheek. "I'll head to Giana's place after if that's okay?"
Giana from Mystic Cafe? Small town indeed.
"Sure, anak. Tell Giana to come here for dinner." Cassandra tells her.
Clementine heads out as she yells out, "Save some cheesecake for me, mama!" Then they hear the car drive away.
"She's 18 and still asks for permission. A great kid, let me tell you." Genesis tells Cassandra with a chuckle as she finally takes a bit of rice with a piece of chicken adobo in her spoon.
"This is an ethnic household, after all." Cassandra tells her knowingly with a smile.
"How are you, Cassandra?"
Cassandra sighs as she deflates in her seat. "I've been doing well. It does get better, the grief. But I know Clementine hasn't been the same after Lucas died."
"She was just 16, Cassandra." Genesis softly reminds her. "A young age to lose a father figure."
"I know. I—I just wish she would talk to me more often. She's always in her room, reading. And I'm glad you know she doesn't drink or party away her emotions. She just reads. That's why she's working at the grill, for her books. I told her I'll buy her just like what her dad did, but she insisted." Cassandra sighs, taking a cupcake from the box. She takes a bite and hums in approval.
"At least you know she's safe and that she wouldn't do something idiotic like other teenagers out there," Genesis tells her, and Cassandra agrees. "I'm just happy that she made a friend here. It's not an easy move for her at first, but Giana made it easy for her."
Genesis nods. "Give her time. I'm sure she'll talk to you."
Cassandra waves her hand in dismissal. "Enough about me. How are you? How's Klaus?"
"Nothing new. Niklaus is still his usual self. He's on a flight to London when I arrived here." Genesis says, taking another bite of her meal, then she takes a sip of water.
"So, he finally decided to break his curse?"
"Not really, oddly enough. He told me to entertain myself first."
"I thought he would be eager to break his curse." Cassandra furrows her eyebrows, confused. Genesis sighs, "I'm here because Damon Salvatore called me and told me that Katherine Pierce is in Mystic Falls."
"I haven't noticed," Cassandra says, pinching her eyebrows together. She would have known if Katherine was back in town. "So, he wants you to bring her to him?"
"He wants me to keep an eye on her. But while I'm here, I will prepare the ingredients needed in the sacrifice first." Genesis says as she fixes her seat. "The location of where the ritual needs to take place. The moonstone that Katherine has. A vampire and a werewolf."
"The location where I can help the founding family has its own archives in the library. Clementine knows where it is and where the hidden journals are." Cassandra informs Genesis, and she nods.
"Tell me everything I need to know about this town."
Author's Note:
