Until forever falls apart
(1919)
"YOU SAID FOREVER, AND YOU ABANDONED ME!" Genesis teased as she chased a laughing Elijah Mikaelson at a human pace. They were in the flower field far away from the buzzing city.
"Oh, my love! It is forever, indeed, for us! But a chase is a chase!" Elijah retaliated with a grin on his handsome face. He looks back at her with a wink.
"Must I be the one chasing?" Genesis frowns as a huff releases from her plump red lips as her feet come to a halt, her dark blue dress that was already stained with dirt. She crosses her arms, rolling his eyes at him. Elijah stopped in his tracks. He was a yard away from her.
"It's truly an honor to be chased by a gorgeous woman as you," Elijah tells her softly. He was suddenly in front of her, his hand on her waist. He leans down, placing a peck on the side of her frowning lips.
"For a gentleman, I thought you knew how to give a lady a kiss." Genesis raises a challenging eyebrow at him with a grin of her own. Then she has suddenly twirled around as they dipped, face an inch away from each other as he whispered.
"You know you are more than a lady, Ms. Ackerman," Elijah whispers in a husky tone, his voice rich as whisky as his hazel-colored eyes captured her own. "You are a siren that lured me. And the Enchantress who bewitched me." Placing a peck on her forehead, then her nose, "And I'm just a man who had fallen deeply in love with you." finally, he captured her lips, and Genesis smiled in the kiss as she wrapped her arms around his neck, she would never get used to this feeling, a feeling of...
Love. It was indeed a wonderful feeling.
"I want you to join me tonight, my love, to the Opera," Elijah tells her as he pulled away from the kiss and intertwines his hand with hers as they walk back to their carriage.
Genesis pretends to ponder, "I should think about it, Mr. Mikaelson, with such short notice. I have little time to make myself look presentable." Elijah opens the carriage door for her, and they both enter it. The carriage began to move.
"You need not worry about it, my love. I have already consulted dearest Rebekah for your dress." Elijah replies as he tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Genesis blushed at the action, and she cleared her throat.
"Well, I guess I have no valid reason to decline the invitation," Genesis says with a smile, and Elijah shakes his head, a smile creeping its way to his lips as well.
"I do prefer to spend the evening with you, alone," Elijah confesses as he takes her hand in his, placing a soft kiss on her knuckle. "What is stopping you then?" Genesis leans on his shoulder.
"Rebekah is oddly insistent that we attend." Elijah furrows his eyebrows. He, too, was confused about why Rebekah was so eager to attend the opera. His sister never did fancy watching the opera. In her own words, it was dull. He does not know what changed her mind.
"Who are we to question it? For the whole month, her behavior is...questionable." Genesis tells him with a shrug. Rebekah always seems too preoccupied with whatever she is doing and looks so anxious whenever Genesis asks what she is doing, but she never does get an answer from Rebekah.
"Let's give her this night. After all, we will leave for our trip tomorrow morning. Maybe it's a way of bidding us farewell." Elijah tells Genesis, her face lit up, her eyes filled with excitement. "Oh! I'm quite thrilled to leave New Orleans for a while. They say Italy has become marvelous!" At first, Niklaus disagreed with their plan for a trip to Italy, and he said it was quite far and that it would be dangerous for them, meaning what if Mikael suddenly showed up? Although Mikael would not harm Elijah, he would use Elijah to get to Niklaus.
Elijah's smile widens at the dreamy look his beloved has on her ethereal face. He reveled in making her happy, and it was his greatest triumph. To make her happy. "I'm thrilled as you are, my love." The carriage came to a halt as Elijah opened the door. Genesis stepped out, she turned around, and curtsied. "I will see you tonight, Mr. Mikaelson."
"And I will patiently wait for you." Elijah bowed lightly, and he waited for Genesis to enter her home as the carriage made its way to the compound.
Genesis opened the door and was immediately greeted by her dearest friend, Juliette Porter. A friend she met when she had just arrived from New Orleans. Which was 129 years ago. Genesis turned her into a vampire when Juliette requested it. And she was the one who also helped Genesis with her saloon for the slaves.
Paradis du Sanctuaire.
In english, Sanctuary's heaven.
A resting place for those who seek safety and food. Genesis only serves the people who find their way to her saloon. After that, they are compelled to forget where precisely the saloon is, but they know in their gut where to seek comfort. They did that, well, for safety reasons. They don't need any more drama with the authorities, and they could easily compel them to say yes. But it would be too much work to compel every racist in the city.
"How was your morning with Mr. Mikaelson?" Juliette fuzzes over her with her usual charismatic enthusiasm. Genesis makes her way toward her bedroom, and she sees a box on her table wrapped neatly with a ribbon on top. "By the looks of it, it went well." Juliette finds the answer quickly as Genesis opens a box revealing a dark green with a sheer pearl shawl.
"Did you not see this being delivered?" Genesis asks, taking the dress out of the box and laying it neatly on her bed, already preparing herself for tonight's opera.
"Sophie must have received it," Juliette answers as she helps Genesis with her hair. "I heard there's an opera tonight. I figured that is where you are going with Mr. Mikaelson?"
"Correct, Juliette," Genesis says, placing the pearl necklace Elijah gave her and the matching pearl infinity ring. Juliette handed her the corset as Genesis stood in front of the mirror while Juliette pulled the strings. "Bloody torture."
"Beauty is pain, they say," Juliette replies with a giggle as she helps Genesis with her dress. "They also say that women are born with pain built-in," Genesis tells her with a pointed look as she slips her foot on her shoes.
"An honest saying, in my opinion." Juliette sighs, she tilts her head, and purses her lips, saying, "Be careful tonight, Genesis. I have had a bad feeling since this morning."
"Well, if something happens to me, you know what to do," Genesis tells her firmly. She then walks towards Juliette and takes her hand in hers. "Nothing bad will happen," Genesis assures with a soft smile. "Thank you for helping me."
"No worries! I'm always happy to make you more gorgeous than you already are." Juliette brushes it off with a wave of her hand. Genesis looked out the window to see that it was already night. Noon swept away quickly. They heard a knock on the door, and Juliette clapped, "Oh! Your prince charming is here!" she exclaimed as she headed downstairs to greet the person.
Genesis chuckles, then there she feels a shiver of uncertainty that she paid no mind.
Walking down the stairs, a man in a suit but instead of the usual dark hair that she familiarized herself with, dirty blonde hair awaited her, and she frowned.
"Niklaus, where is your dear brother?" Genesis asks as she takes her last step from the stairs. Niklaus feigned hurt when Genesis did not even greet him, "No, 'hello Niklaus, how are you?' How rude of you." Genesis puts his hand on his awaiting arm.
"Oh, don't act so polite when you are the opposite of that." Genesis tells him with a chuckle as Niklaus releases a huff, "My brother is running quite late. I took it upon myself to accompany you to the Opera house."
"How nice of you, Niklaus."
"I am nice."
"I would like to disagree."
"Disagree all you want, but I'm not the one who is late to accompany a beautiful woman." Niklaus drawls out with a grin as he opens the carriage door, assisting Genesis with her dress.
"I'm sure he has his reasons. Your brother is never late." Genesis reasons out as they arrive at the Opera house. Rebekah patiently waited for them as she greeted, "Have you seen Marcel?"
"No, we have not, dear sister. Perhaps he took off somewhere," Niklaus tells her, intending to irritate his sister. Genesis then says, "I'm sure he is waiting inside. You two can go ahead, and I need to use the comfort room."
Entering the comfort room, she fixes herself in front of the mirror when suddenly, someone grabs her from behind and pushes her towards the wall. She bared her fangs as the veins in her eyes crawled in her upper cheeks, her eyes turning dark red. And she retracted when she saw the person in front of her.
"Feisty you are."
"Mikael." Genesis gasps as a hand are wrapped around her neck, and she is raised against the wall. She was gasping for air, clawing her fingers at Mikael's arms. She was not matched with an Original's strength.
"My, my. Genesis. It's quite sad that you are thrust into this circumstance. However, you did this to yourself." Mikael was about to thrust his hand to her chest when suddenly he was thrown to the other side of the wall. Genesis fell to the floor as she gasped for air.
"Genesis." Elijah was suddenly in front of her helping her stand, and quickly ushered her out of the room. He led her towards backstage, and what she saw made her eyes widen. Marcel was chained in some contraption, with Mikael's hand in his chest. Elijah looked at Niklaus in defeat.
"There is no helping Marcel. We must run." Niklaus, who was looking at Marcel with stone-cold eyes, swooped a weakened Rebekah in his arms as they ran outside.
Niklaus places Rebekah on the ground as he feeds her his blood. They heard Mikael yelling, and they knew he was near. Elijah takes an iron fence in from the bard door. Genesis looks at him with panic on her features.
Mikael finally found them, and they don't know how.
"Marcel?" Rebekah asks weakly, and they all look at the now burning Opera house in front of them.
"He is gone, sister."
"No." Rebekah falters.
This was the bad feeling Juliette had felt earlier.
"I have to get to Juliette," Genesis tells Elijah. As she was about to leave, she was stopped by Elijah.
"It's not safe for you."
"And neither for Juliette!" Genesis yells at him. Elijah looks at Niklaus and Rebekah, "Both of you must flee the city. I'll hold them off, Niklaus."
"Elijah," Genesis looks at him in concern as she wraps her hand around his arms. Elijah wasn't looking at her.
"No. We fight him together." Klaus disagrees as he assists Rebekah to stand.
"There is no fighting him. All we can do is what we have done, deceive him, leave him astray. Now I can do that as well as anyone. You take Rebekah far away from here. I'll find you." Elijah tells his siblings, and Genesis witnesses everything unfold.
"No! Elijah, you can't! This–this is my fault!" Rebehak yells out in disagreement.
"No. This is my fault, Rebekah. I am so sorry. I'm sorry, Marcel–" Klaus says as suddenly explodes from behind as the sirens wailed out. People are running out of the Opera house.
"I thought we found a home here," Niklaus says with sad eyes.
"Niklaus, do it," Elijah says firmly. Niklaus looks at him with furrowed brows as Elijah looks at Genesis with guilt.
"Elijah?" Genesis questions him with confusion.
"Brother, we don't have to," Niklaus says as he shakes his head, not liking his brother's idea.
"Don't have to do what?" Genesis says in a panic, looking at the two brothers.
Elijah places a hand on her cheek and places a longing kiss on her forehead. "I'm so sorry, my love, but this is for your safety,"
"What?"
"Niklaus, please," Elijah pleads to his brother, and Rebekah finally catches up with what Elijah plans to do. "Don't."
Niklaus holds Genesis' hands from behind as he looks into her eyes. "No!" As she came to realize, "Don't do this to me, Niklaus, please, I beg of you," Genesis' eyes started to tear up. She was struggling again with his strength. "Please,"
"I'm so sorry, Genesis."
"I hope you choose the road that will make you the happiest. I am so sorry for this, my love." Elijah says, his eyes are full of guilt and regret. His jaw clenched.
"If you do this, I will hate you forever," Genesis tells Elijah with pain in her dark green eyes.
"It is better you hate me than to see your lifeless body. Do it. Niklaus, we don't have much time," Elijah tells him. Niklaus purses his lips as he releases a pained sigh, grabbing Genesis' jaw, with her refusing to look at him until she had no choice but to look into his eyes.
Niklaus looks at her eyes with his own dilating. "Forget, Elijah, Forget us. Forget every memory you have of the Mikaelsons. Forget whatever happened here in New Orleans. Run and never return to New Orleans, and always stay safe and alive."
But not until Genesis spoke again, seemingly in a daze, trying to fight the compulsion
Words that hunted Elijah's soul.
"You said forever, and you abandoned me."
